1 राजा 3
1 शलोमोन ने मिस्र के राजा फ़रोह के साथ वैवाहिक गठबंधन बनाया. उन्होंने फ़रोह की पुत्री से विवाह कर लिया, और उसे दावीद के नगर में ले आए. उन्होंने उसे येरूशलेम में तब तक रखा, जब तक अपने भवन, याहवेह के भवन और येरूशलेम की शहरपनाह बनाने का काम पूरा न हो गया.
And Solomon contracted an alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt, —and took the daughter of Pharaoh, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of Yahweh, and the wall of Jerusalem, round about.
2 लोग पूजा की जगहों पर अब भी बलि चढ़ाते थे, क्योंकि अब तक याहवेह के लिए कोई भी भवन बनाया नहीं गया था.
Save only, that the people were sacrificing in the high places, —because there had not been built a house unto the Name of Yahweh, until those days,
3 शलोमोन याहवेह से प्रेम करते थे. हां, अपने पिता दावीद की विधियों का पालन भी करते थे. इसके अलावा वह पूजा की जगहों पर बलि चढ़ाते और धूप भी जलाते थे.
Solomon loved Yahweh, by walking in the statutes of David his father, —save only, that, in the high places, he himself, was sacrificing and offering incense.
4 एक बार राजा बलि चढ़ाने के लिए गिबयोन नगर गए. यह विशेष पूजा की जगह थी. शलोमोन हमेशा उस वेदी पर होमबलि के लिए एक हज़ार पशु चढ़ाते थे.
So then the king went to Gibeon, to sacrifice there, for, that, was the great high place, —a thousand ascending-sacrifices, did Solomon offer up on that altar.
5 गिबयोन नगर में ही याहवेह शलोमोन पर सपने में दिखे. परमेश्वर ने उनसे कहा, “मांगो, जो तुम्हारी मनोकामना है!”
In Gibeon, Yahweh appeared unto Solomon, in a dream by night, —and God said, Ask, what I shall give thee.
6 शलोमोन ने याहवेह को उत्तर दिया, “आपने अपने सेवक मेरे पिता, दावीद पर बहुत प्रेम दिखाया है, क्योंकि वह आपके सामने सच्चाई, ईमानदारी और मन की सीधाई से चलते रहे. आपने उन पर अपना अपार प्रेम इस हद्द तक बनाए रखा है कि, आज आपने उन्हें उनके सिंहासन पर बैठने के लिए एक पुत्र भी दिया है.
Then said Solomon—Thou, didst deal, with thy servant David my father, in great lovingkindness, according as he walked before thee, in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart, with thee, —and thou hast kept, for him, this great lovingkindness, that thou hast given unto him a son, to sit upon his throne, as it is this day.
7 “याहवेह, मेरे परमेश्वर, अब आपने अपने सेवक को मेरे पिता दावीद की जगह पर राजा बना दिया है. यह होने पर भी, सच यही है कि मैं सिर्फ एक कम उम्र का बालक ही हूं—मुझे इसकी समझ ही नहीं कि किस परिस्थिति में कैसा फैसला लेना सही होता है.
Now, therefore, O Yahweh my God, thou, hast made thy servant king, instead of David my father, —and, I, am but a little child, I know not how to go out and come in.
8 आपका सेवक आपके द्वारा चुनी गई प्रजा के बीच है, जो इतनी विशाल है जिसकी गिनती भी नहीं की जा सकती है, जिनका हिसाब रखना मुश्किल है.
And, thy servant, is in the midst of thy people, whom thou hast chosen, —a numerous people, that cannot be numbered or summed up, for multitude.
9 इसलिये प्रजा का न्याय करने के लिए अपने सेवक को ऐसा मन दे दीजिए कि मैं भले-बुरे को परख सकूं, नहीं तो कौन है जो आपकी इतनी विशाल प्रजा का न्याय करके उसे चला सके?”
Wilt thou, then, give unto thy servant, a heart that hearkeneth, to judge thy people, to discern between good and bad, —for who is able to judge this thine honoured people?
10 शलोमोन की इस प्रार्थना ने प्रभु को प्रसन्न कर दिया.
And the thing was good in the eyes of the Lord, —that Solomon had asked this thing;
11 परमेश्वर ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “इसलिये कि तुमने न तो अपनी लंबी उम्र के लिए, न धन-दौलत के लिए और न ही अपने शत्रुओं के प्राणों की विनती की है, बल्कि तुमने प्रार्थना की है, कि तुम्हें न्याय के लिए सही विवेक मिल सके;
And God said unto him—Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself many days, nor asked for thyself riches, nor asked the lives of thine enemies, —but hast asked for thyself discernment, in hearing a cause,
12 देखो, मैं तुम्हारी इच्छा पूरी कर रहा हूं. देखो, मैं तुम्हें बुद्धि और विवेक से भरा मन देता हूं, ऐसा, कि न तो तुमसे पहले कोई ऐसा हुआ है, और न तुम्हारे बाद ऐसा कोई होगा.
lo! I have done according to thy word, —lo! I have given unto thee a wise and discerning heart, so that, like thee, hath been none, before thee, and, after thee, shall rise up none, like thee.
13 मैं तुम्हें वह भी दूंगा, जिसकी तुमने प्रार्थना भी नहीं की; धन-दौलत और महिमा. तुम्हारे पूरे जीवन भर में कोई भी राजा तुम्हारे सामने खड़ा न हो सकेगा.
Moreover also, what thou hast not asked, have I given unto thee, both riches and honour, —so that there hath been none, like thee, among the kings, all thy days.
14 यदि तुम मेरे मार्ग पर चलोगे, मेरी विधियों और आज्ञाओं का पालन करते रहो, जैसा तुम्हारे पिता दावीद करते रहे, मैं तुम्हें लंबी उम्र दूंगा.”
And, if thou wilt walk in my ways, by keeping my statutes, and my commandments, as, David thy father, walked, then will I lengthen out thy days.
15 शलोमोन की नींद टूट गई. उन्हें लगा कि यह सिर्फ सपना ही था. वह येरूशलेम लौट गए, और वहां प्रभु की वाचा के संदूक के सामने खड़े हो गए, और उन्होंने होमबलि और मेल बलि चढ़ाई, और अपने सभी सेवकों के लिए एक भोज दिया.
And Solomon awoke, and lo! it was a dream. So he entered into Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and caused to go up ascending-sacrifices and offered peace-offerings, and made a banquet for all his servants.
16 एक दिन शलोमोन की सभा में दो वेश्याएं आ खड़ी हुईं.
Then, came there in two unchaste women, unto the king, —and stood before him.
17 उनमें से एक ने विनती की, “मेरे प्रभु, हम दोनों एक ही घर में रहती हैं. जब यह घर पर ही थी, मैंने एक बच्चे को जन्म दिया.
And the one woman said—Pardon, my lord! I and this woman, dwell in one house, —and I gave birth to a child near her, in the house.
18 बच्चे को जन्म देने के तीसरे दिन इस स्त्री ने भी एक बच्चे को जन्म दिया. हम दोनों साथ साथ ही रह रही थी. घर में हम दोनों के अलावा कोई भी दूसरा व्यक्ति न था, घर में सिर्फ हम दोनों ही थी.
And it came to pass, the third day after I bare, that, this woman also, gave birth to a child, —we two, being together, there was no stranger with us in the house, none but we two in the house.
19 “रात में इस स्त्री के पुत्र की मृत्यु हो गई, क्योंकि बच्चा इसके नीचे दब गया था.
And this woman’s son died in the night, —because she overlaid it.
20 रात के बीच में जब मैं सो रही थी, इसने उठकर मेरे पास से मेरे पुत्र को लेकर अपने पास सुला लिया, और अपने मरे हुए पुत्र को मेरे पास लिटा दिया.
Then arose she, in the middle of the night, and took my son from beside me, while thy handmaid was sleeping, and laid it in her own besom, —but, her dead son, laid she in, my, bosom.
21 जब सुबह उठकर मैंने अपने पुत्र को दूध पिलाना चाहा, तो मैंने पाया कि वह मरा हुआ था! मगर जब मैंने सुबह उसे ध्यान से देखा तो, यह मुझे साफ़ मालूम हुआ कि वह मेरा पुत्र था ही नहीं, जिसे मैंने जन्म दिया था.”
And, when I arose in the morning, to give suck unto my child, lo! it was dead! but, when I looked at it narrowly in the morning, lo! it was not, my son that I had borne.
22 इस पर दूसरी स्त्री बोल उठी, “नहीं! यह ज़िंदा बच्चा ही मेरा पुत्र है. तुम्हारा पुत्र यह मरा हुआ बच्चा है.” मगर पहली स्त्री ने कहा, “नहीं! मरा हुआ बच्चा तुम्हारा ही पुत्र है, ज़िंदा बच्चा मेरा पुत्र है.” यह सब राजा के सामने हो रहा था.
Then said the other woman—Nay! but, my son, is the, living, and, thy son, the, dead. But, this, one kept on saying—Nay, verily! but, thy son, is the, dead, and, my son, the, living. Thus spake they before the king.
23 तब राजा ने कहा, “एक कहती है, ‘जो ज़िंदा है, वह मेरा पुत्र है, जो मरा है वह तुम्हारा पुत्र है’ और दूसरी स्त्री दावा कर रही है, ‘नहीं! मरा हुआ पुत्र तुम्हारा है, ज़िंदा मेरा.’”
Then said the king, The one woman, is saying, This, is, my son, the one that liveth, and, thy son, is, the one that is dead, —and, the other, is saying, Nay! but, thy son, is, the dead one, and, my son, the, living.
24 राजा ने आदेश दिया, “मेरे लिए एक तलवार लेकर आओ.” सो राजा के लिए एक तलवार लाई गई.
And the king said—Bring me a sword! So they brought a sword before the king.
25 राजा ने उन्हें आदेश दिया, “जीवित बच्चे को दो भागों में काट दिया जाए और दोनों स्त्रियों को आधा-आधा भाग दे दिया जाए.”
Then said the king, Divide the living child, in twain, —and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26 तब वह स्त्री, जिसका बच्चा वास्तव में ज़िंदा था, राजा से विनती करने लगी, क्योंकि वह अपने पुत्र के विषय में बहुत ही दुःखी हो गई थी, “मेरे प्रभु, दे दीजिए यह ज़िंदा बच्चा इसे, इसकी हत्या बिलकुल न कीजिए.” मगर दूसरी स्त्री ने कहा, “न बच्चा तुम्हारा होगा न मेरा; कर दो इसे दो भागों में आधा!”
Then spake the woman, whose was the living child, unto the king—for tender became her compassions over her son—so she said—Pardon, my lord! Give, her, the living child, and do not, kill, it. But the other kept on saying—Neither mine, nor thine, shall it be, divide it.
27 यह सुनते ही राजा ने आदेश दिया, “इस बच्चे की हत्या बिलकुल न की जाए. ज़िंदा बच्चा इस पहली स्त्री को दे दो. इस बच्चे की माता यही है.”
Then responded the king, and said—Give, her, the living child, ye shall not, kill, it, —she, is its mother.
28 तब सारे इस्राएल ने इस निर्णय के बारे में सुना कि राजा ने कैसा निर्णय दिया है, सबके मन में राजा का भय छा गया. क्योंकि वे यह साफ़ देख रहे थे कि न्याय करने के लिए राजा में परमेश्वर की बुद्धि थी.
And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had delivered, and they stood in awe before the king, —for they saw, that, the wisdom of God, was in him, to execute justice.
