1 कुरिन्थियों 8

1 अब मूर्तियों को चढ़ाई हुई वस्तुओं के संबंध में: हम जानते हैं कि हम सब ज्ञानी हैं. वास्तव में तो ज्ञान हमें घमंडी बनाता है जबकि प्रेम हमें उन्‍नत करता है.

Now about things offered to images: we all seem to ourselves to have knowledge. Knowledge gives pride, but love gives true strength.

2 यदि कोई यह समझता है कि वह ज्ञानवान है तो वास्तव में वह अब तक वैसा ज्ञान ही नहीं पाया, जैसा जानना उसके लिए ज़रूरी है.

If anyone seems to himself to have knowledge, so far he has not the right sort of knowledge about anything;

3 वह, जो परमेश्वर से प्रेम करता है, परमेश्वर का परिचित हो जाता है.

But if anyone has love for God, God has knowledge of him.

4 जहां तक मूर्तियों को चढ़ाई हुई वस्तुओं को खाने का प्रश्न है, हम इस बात को भली-भांति जानते हैं कि सारे संसार में कहीं भी मूर्तियों में परमेश्वर नहीं है तथा एक के अतिरिक्त और कोई परमेश्वर नहीं है.

So, then, as to the question of taking food offered to images, we are certain that an image is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one.

5 यद्यपि आकाश और पृथ्वी पर अनेक तथाकथित देवता हैं, जैसे कि अनेक देवता और अनेक प्रभु भी हैं

For though there are those who have the name of gods, in heaven or on earth, as there are a number of gods and a number of lords,

6 किंतु हमारे लिए तो परमेश्वर मात्र एक ही हैं—वह पिता—जिनमें हम सब सृष्ट हैं, और हम उसी के लिए हैं. प्रभु एक ही हैं—मसीह येशु—इन्हीं के द्वारा सब कुछ है, इन्हीं के द्वारा हम हैं.

There is for us only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we are for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we have our being through him.

7 किंतु सभी को यह बात मालूम नहीं हैं. कुछ व्यक्ति ऐसे हैं, जो अब तक मूर्तियों से जुड़े हैं तथा वे उस भोजन को मूर्तियों को भेंट किया हुआ भोजन मानते हुए खाते हैं. उनका कमजोर विवेक अशुद्ध हो गया है.

Still, all men have not that knowledge: but some, being used till now to the image, are conscious that they are taking food which has been offered to the image; and because they are not strong in the faith, their minds are troubled.

8 हमें परमेश्वर के पास ले जाने में भोजन का कोई योगदान नहीं होता—भोजन से न तो कोई हानि संभव है और न ही कोई लाभ.

But God's approval of us is not based on the food we take: if we do not take it we are no worse for it; and if we take it we are no better.

9 किंतु सावधान रहना कि तुम्हारी यह स्वतंत्रता निर्बलों के लिए ठोकर का कारण न बने.

But take care that this power of yours does not give cause for trouble to the feeble.

10 यदि किसी का विवेक कमजोर है और वह तुम जैसे ज्ञानी व्यक्ति को मूर्ति के मंदिर में भोजन करते देख ले तो क्या उसे भी मूर्ति को चढ़ाई हुई वस्तुएं खाने का साहस न मिलेगा?

For if a man sees you, who have knowledge, taking food as a guest in the house of an image, will it not give him, if he is feeble, the idea that he may take food offered to images?

11 इसमें तुम्हारा ज्ञानी होना उसके विनाश का कारण हो गया, जिसके लिए मसीह येशु ने प्राण दिया.

And so, through your knowledge, you are the cause of destruction to your brother, for whom Christ underwent death.

12 इस प्रकार विश्वासियों के विरुद्ध पाप करने तथा उनके विवेक को, जो कमजोर हैं, चोट पहुंचाने के द्वारा तुम मसीह येशु के विरुद्ध पाप करते हो.

And in this way, doing evil to the brothers, and causing trouble to those whose faith is feeble, you are sinning against Christ.

13 इसलिये यदि भोजन किसी के लिए ठोकर का कारण बनता है तो मैं मांस का भोजन कभी न करूंगा कि मैं विश्वासियों के लिए ठोकर का कारण न बनूं. (aiōn g165)

For this reason, if food is a cause of trouble to my brother, I will give up taking meat for ever, so that I may not be a cause of trouble to my brother. (aiōn g165)
