1 कुरिन्थियों 7

1 अब वे विषय जिनके संबंध में तुमने मुझसे लिखकर पूछा है: पुरुष के लिए उचित तो यही है कि वह स्त्री का स्पर्श ही न करे

But concerning the things of which ye have written [to me]: [It is] good for a man not to touch a woman;

2 किंतु व्यभिचार से बचने के लिए हर एक पुरुष की अपनी पत्नी तथा हर एक स्त्री का अपना पति हो.

but on account of fornications, let each have his own wife, and each [woman] have her own husband.

3 यह आवश्यक है कि पति अपनी पत्नी के प्रति अपना कर्तव्य पूरा करे तथा इसी प्रकार पत्नी भी अपने पति के प्रति.

Let the husband render her due to the wife, and in like manner the wife to the husband.

4 पत्नी ने अपने पति को अपने शरीर पर अधिकार दिया है, वैसे ही पति ने अपनी पत्नी को अपने शरीर पर अधिकार दिया है.

The wife has not authority over her own body, but the husband: in like manner also the husband has not authority over his own body, but the wife.

5 पति-पत्नी एक दूसरे को शारीरिक संबंधों से दूर न रखें—सिवाय आपसी सहमति से प्रार्थना के उद्देश्य से सीमित अवधि के लिए. इसके तुरंत बाद वे दोबारा साथ हो जाएं कि कहीं संयम टूटने के कारण शैतान उन्हें परीक्षा में न फंसा ले.

Defraud not one another, unless, it may be, by consent for a time, that ye may devote yourselves to prayer, and again be together, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency.

6 यह मैं सुविधा अनुमति के रूप में कह रहा हूं—आज्ञा के रूप में नहीं.

But this I say, as consenting [to], not as commanding [it].

7 वैसे तो मेरी इच्छा तो यही है कि सभी पुरुष ऐसे होते जैसा स्वयं मैं हूं किंतु परमेश्वर ने तुममें से हर एक को भिन्‍न-भिन्‍न क्षमताएं प्रदान की हैं.

Now I wish all men to be even as myself: but every one has his own gift of God: one man thus, and another thus.

8 अविवाहितों तथा विधवाओं से मेरा कहना है कि वे अकेले ही रहें—जैसा मैं हूं

But I say to the unmarried and to the widows, It is good for them that they remain even as I.

9 किंतु यदि उनके लिए संयम रखना संभव नहीं तो वे विवाह कर लें—कामातुर होकर जलते रहने की बजाय विवाह कर लेना ही उत्तम है.

But if they have not control over themselves, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn.

10 विवाहितों के लिए मेरा निर्देश है—मेरा नहीं परंतु प्रभु का: पत्नी अपने पति से संबंध न तोड़े.

But to the married I enjoin, not I, but the Lord, Let not wife be separated from husband;

11 यदि पत्नी का संबंध टूट ही जाता है तो वह दोबारा विवाह न करे या पति से मेल-मिलाप कर ले. पति अपनी पत्नी का त्याग न करे.

(but if also she shall have been separated, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband; ) and let not husband leave wife.

12 मगर बाकियों से मेरा कहना है कि यदि किसी साथी विश्वासी की पत्नी विश्वासी न हो और वह उसके साथ रहने के लिए सहमत हो तो पति उसका त्याग न करे.

But as to the rest, I say, not the Lord, If any brother have an unbelieving wife, and she consent to dwell with him, let him not leave her.

13 यदि किसी स्त्री का पति विश्वासी न हो और वह उसके साथ रहने के लिए राज़ी हो तो पत्नी उसका त्याग न करे;

And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to dwell with her, let her not leave [her] husband.

14 क्योंकि अविश्वासी पति अपनी विश्वासी पत्नी के कारण पवित्र ठहराया जाता है. इसी प्रकार अविश्वासी पत्नी अपने विश्वासी पति के कारण पवित्र ठहराई जाती है. यदि ऐसा न होता तो तुम्हारी संतान अशुद्ध रह जाती; किंतु इस स्थिति में वह परमेश्वर के लिए अलग की गई है.

For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the brother; since [otherwise] indeed your children are unclean, but now they are holy.

15 फिर भी यदि अविश्वासी दंपति अलग होना चाहे तो उसे हो जाने दिया जाए. कोई भी विश्वासी भाई या विश्वासी बहन इस बंधन में बंधे रहने के लिए बाध्य नहीं. परमेश्वर ने हमें शांति से भरे जीवन के लिए बुलाया है.

But if the unbeliever go away, let them go away; a brother or a sister is not bound in such [cases], but God has called us in peace.

16 पत्नी यह संभावना कभी भुला न दे: पत्नी अपने पति के उद्धार का साधन हो सकती है, वैसे ही पति अपनी पत्नी के उद्धार का.

For what knowest thou, O wife, if thou shalt save thy husband? or what knowest thou, O husband, if thou shalt save thy wife?

17 परमेश्वर ने जिसे जैसी स्थिति में रखा है तथा जिस रूप में उसे बुलाया है, वह उसी में बना रहे. सभी कलीसियाओं के लिए मेरा यही निर्देश है.

However, as the Lord has divided to each, as God has called each, so let him walk; and thus I ordain in all the assemblies.

18 क्या किसी ऐसे व्यक्ति को बुलाया गया है, जिसका पहले से ही ख़तना हुआ था? वह अब खतना-रहित न बने. क्या किसी ऐसे व्यक्ति को बुलाया गया है, जो ख़तना रहित है? वह अपना ख़तना न कराए.

Has any one been called circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised: has any one been called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.

19 न तो ख़तना कराने का कोई महत्व है और न ख़तना रहित होने का. महत्व है तो मात्र परमेश्वर की आज्ञापालन का.

Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing; but keeping God's commandments.

20 हर एक उसी अवस्था में बना रहे, जिसमें उसको बुलाया गया था.

Let each abide in that calling in which he has been called.

21 क्या तुम्हें उस समय बुलाया गया था, जब तुम दास थे? यह तुम्हारे लिए चिंता का विषय न हो किंतु यदि दासत्व से स्वतंत्र होने का सुअवसर आए तो इस सुअवसर का लाभ अवश्य उठाओ.

Hast thou been called [being] a bondman, let it not concern thee; but and if thou canst become free, use [it] rather.

22 वह, जिसको उस समय बुलाया गया, जब वह दास था, अब प्रभु में स्वतंत्र किया हुआ व्यक्ति है; इसी प्रकार, जिसको उस समय बुलाया गया, जब वह स्वतंत्र था, अब वह मसीह का दास है.

For the bondman that is called in [the] Lord is the Lord's freedman; in like manner [also] the freeman being called is Christ's bondman.

23 तुम दाम देकर मोल लिए गए हो इसलिये मनुष्य के दास न बन जाओ.

Ye have been bought with a price; do not be the bondmen of men.

24 प्रिय भाई बहनो, तुममें से हर एक उसी अवस्था में, जिसमें उसे बुलाया गया था, परमेश्वर के साथ जुड़ा रहे.

Let each, wherein he is called, brethren, therein abide with God.

25 कुंवारियों के संबंध में मेरे पास प्रभु की ओर से कोई आज्ञा नहीं है किंतु मैं, जो प्रभु की कृपा के कारण विश्वसनीय हूं, अपनी ओर से यह कहना चाहता हूं:

But concerning virgins, I have no commandment of [the] Lord; but I give my opinion, as having received mercy of [the] Lord to be faithful.

26 वर्तमान संकट के कारण मेरे विचार से पुरुष के लिए उत्तम यही होगा कि वह जिस स्थिति में है, उसी में बना रहे.

I think then that this is good, on account of the present necessity, that [it is] good for a man to remain so as he is.

27 यदि तुम विवाहित हो तो पत्नी का त्याग न करो. यदि अविवाहित हो तो पत्नी खोजने का प्रयास न करो.

Art thou bound to a wife? seek not to be loosed; art thou free from a wife? do not seek a wife.

28 यदि तुम विवाह करते ही हो तो भी पाप नहीं करते. यदि कोई कुंवारी कन्या विवाह करती है तो यह पाप नहीं है. फिर भी इनके साथ सामान्य वैवाहिक जीवन संबंधी झंझट लगे रहेंगे और मैं वास्तव में तुम्हें इन्हीं से बचाने का प्रयास कर रहा हूं.

But if thou shouldest also marry, thou hast not sinned; and if the virgin marry, they have not sinned: but such shall have tribulation in the flesh; but I spare you.

29 प्रिय भाई बहनो, मेरा मतलब यह है कि थोड़ा ही समय शेष रह गया है इसलिये अब से वे, जो विवाहित हैं ऐसे रहें, मानो अविवाहित हों.

But this I say, brethren, the time is straitened. For the rest, that they who have wives, be as not having [any]:

30 जो शोकित हैं उनका शोक प्रकट न हो; जो आनंदित हैं उनका आनंद छुपा रहे और जो मोल ले रहे हैं, वे ऐसे हो जाएं मानो उनके पास कुछ भी नहीं है.

and they that weep, as not weeping; and they that rejoice, as not rejoicing; and they that buy, as not possessing;

31 जिनका लेनदेन सांसारिक वस्तुओं से है, वे उनमें लीन न हो जाएं क्योंकि संसार के इस वर्तमान स्वरूप का नाश होता चला जा रहा है.

and they that use the world, as not disposing of it as their own; for the fashion of this world passes.

32 मेरी इच्छा है कि तुम सांसारिक जीवन की अभिलाषाओं से मुक्त रहो. उसके लिए, जो अविवाहित है, प्रभु संबंधी विषयों का ध्यान रखना संभव है कि वह प्रभु को संतुष्ट कैसे कर सकता है;

But I wish you to be without care. The unmarried cares for the things of the Lord, how he shall please the Lord;

33 किंतु वह, जो विवाहित है, उसका ध्यान संसार संबंधित विषयों में ही लगा रहता है कि वह अपनी पत्नी को प्रसन्‍न कैसे करे,

but he that has married cares for the things of the world, how he shall please his wife.

34 उसकी रुचियां बंटी रहती हैं. उसी प्रकार पतिहीन तथा कुंवारी स्त्री की रुचियां प्रभु से संबंधित विषयों में सीमित रह सकती हैं—और इसके लिए वह शरीर और आत्मा में पवित्र रहने में प्रयास करती रहती है, किंतु वह स्त्री, जो विवाहित है, संसार संबंधी विषयों का ध्यान रखती है कि वह अपने पति को प्रसन्‍न कैसे करे.

There is a difference between the wife and the virgin. The unmarried cares for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but she that has married cares for the things of the world, how she shall please her husband.

35 मैं यह सब तुम्हारी भलाई के लिए ही कह रहा हूं—किसी प्रकार से फंसाने के लिए नहीं परंतु इसलिये कि तुम्हारी जीवनशैली आदर्श हो तथा प्रभु के प्रति तुम्हारा समर्पण एकचित्त होकर रहे.

But I say this for your own profit; not that I may set a snare before you, but for what [is] seemly, and waiting on the Lord without distraction.

36 यदि किसी को यह लगे कि वह अपनी पुत्री के विवाह में देरी करने के द्वारा उसके साथ अन्याय कर रहा है, क्योंकि उसकी आयु ढल रही है, वह वही करे, जो वह सही समझता है, वह उसे विवाह करने दे. यह कोई पाप नहीं है.

But if any one think that he behaves unseemly to his virginity, if he be beyond the flower of his age, and so it must be, let him do what he will, he does not sin: let them marry.

37 किंतु वह, जो बिना किसी बाधा के दृढ़ संकल्प है, अपनी इच्छा अनुसार निर्णय लेने की स्थिति में है तथा जिसने अपनी पुत्री का विवाह न करने का निश्चय कर लिया है, उसका निर्णय सही है.

But he who stands firm in his heart, having no need, but has authority over his own will, and has judged this in his heart to keep his own virginity, he does well.

38 इसलिये जो अपनी पुत्री का विवाह करता है, उसका निर्णय भी सही है तथा जो उसका विवाह न कराने का निश्चय करता है, वह और भी सही है.

So that he that marries himself does well; and he that does not marry does better.

39 पत्नी तब तक पति से जुड़ी रहती है, जब तक पति जीवित है. यदि पति की मृत्यु हो जाए तो वह अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार विवाह करने के लिए स्वतंत्र है—किंतु ज़रूरी यह है कि वह पुरुष भी प्रभु में विश्वासी ही हो.

A wife is bound for whatever time her husband lives; but if the husband be fallen asleep, she is free to be married to whom she will, only in [the] Lord.

40 मेरा व्यक्तिगत मत यह है कि वह स्त्री उसी स्थिति में बनी रहे, जिसमें वह इस समय है. वह इसी स्थिति में सुखी रहेगी. मुझे विश्वास है कि मुझमें भी परमेश्वर का आत्मा वास करता है.

But she is happier if she so remain, according to my judgment; but I think that I also have God's Spirit.
