1 फिलिस्तीनियों ने इस्राएल पर हमला कर दिया. इस्राएली सैनिक फिलिस्तीनियों के सामने टिक न सके. अनेक गिलबोआ पर्वत पर मारे गए.
Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.
2 फिलिस्तीनियों ने शाऊल और उनके पुत्रों को जा पकड़ा और उन्होंने शाऊल के पुत्रों योनातन, अबीनादाब तथा मालखी-शुआ की हत्या कर दी.
The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malkishua, the sons of Saul.
3 शाऊल के आस-पास युद्ध बहुत ही उग्र था. धनुर्धारियों ने उन्हें देख लिया और उन्हें गंभीर रूप घायल कर दिया.
The battle grew fierce against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was wounded by the archers.
4 शाऊल ने अपने शस्त्रवाहक को आदेश दिया, “इसके पहले कि ये अख़तनित आकर मेरी दुर्गति करके मुझ पर तलवार का प्रहार करें, तुम अपनी तलवार से मुझ पर प्रहार कर दो.” मगर उस भयभीत हथियार उठानेवाले ने यह विनती अस्वीकार कर दी. तब स्वयं शाऊल ने अपनी तलवार निकाली और उस पर गिर पड़े.
Then said Saul to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and torture me." But his armor bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.
5 जब हथियार ढोनेवाले ने यह पाया कि शाऊल की मृत्यु हो गई है, वह भी उसी प्रकार अपनी तलवार पर जा गिरा और उसकी भी मृत्यु हो गई.
When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died.
6 इस प्रकार शाऊल और उनके तीनों पुत्रों की मृत्यु हो गई; साथ ही उसके पूरे परिवार की भी मृत्यु हो गई.
So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.
7 जब घाटी के इस्राएलियों ने देखा कि इस्राएली सेना पीठ दिखाकर भाग रही है, शाऊल और उनके पुत्र युद्ध में मारे गए हैं, वे नगर छोड़-छोड़कर भागने लगे. तब फिलिस्तीनी आए और नगरों में निवास करने लगे.
When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.
8 अगले दिन, जब फिलिस्तीनी आए कि शवों पर से, जो मिल सके, अपने लिए उठा ले जाएं. उन्हें गिलबोआ पर्वत पर शाऊल और उसके पुत्रों के शव दिखाई दिए.
It happened on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9 उन्होंने शाऊल का सिर काटा, उनके कपड़े उनकी शव से उतार लिए और यह संदेश सारा फिलिस्तिया देश में अपने देवताओं के तथा लोगों के बीच फैलाने के लिए दूतों को भेज दिया.
They stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to their idols, and to the people.
10 उन्होंने शाऊल के हथियार अपने देवताओं के मंदिर में रखवा दिए और उसके सिर को अपने देवता दागोन के मंदिर में लटका दिया.
They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.
11 जब पूरे याबेश-गिलआदवासियों तक यह समाचार पहुंचा कि शाऊल के साथ फिलिस्तीनियों ने कैसा व्यवहार किया है,
When all the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 सारे वीर योद्धा इकट्ठा हो गए और जाकर शाऊल के और उसके पुत्रों के शव उठाकर याबेश नगर को ले आए. उन्होंने इन शवों की अस्थियों को याबेश नगर के बांज पेड़ के नीचे गाड़ दिया और उनके लिए सात दिन तक उपवास रखा.
all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13 शाऊल की मृत्यु का कारण था याहवेह के प्रति उनके द्वारा किया गया विश्वासघात. उन्होंने याहवेह के आदेश का पालन नहीं किया था, इसके अलावा उसने भूत सिद्धि करनेवाले की राय भी ली थी.
So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD, which he did not keep; and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire thereby,
14 उसने याहवेह से मार्गदर्शन लेना ज़रूरी न समझा था. इसी कारण याहवेह ने उसके प्राण ले लिए और राज्य का प्रशासन यिशै के पुत्र दावीद के हाथों में दे दिया.
and did not inquire of the LORD: therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
