במדבר 12

1 ותדבר מרים ואהרן במשה על אדות האשה הכשית אשר לקח כי אשה כשית לקח׃

And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses, on account of the Cushite woman whom he had taken, —for, a Cushite woman, had he taken.

2 ויאמרו הרק אך במשה דבר יהוה הלא גם בנו דבר וישמע יהוה׃

And they said: Is it only and solely with Moses, that Yahweh hath spoken? With us also, hath he not spoken? And Yahweh heard it.

3 והאיש משה ענו מאד מכל האדם אשר על פני האדמה׃

Now, the man Moses, was patient, exceedingly, —above all the sons of earth, who were on the face of the ground.

4 ויאמר יהוה פתאם אל משה ואל אהרן ואל מרים צאו שלשתכם אל אהל מועד ויצאו שלשתם׃

Then said Yahweh suddenly, unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tent of meeting. And they three went out.

5 וירד יהוה בעמוד ענן ויעמד פתח האהל ויקרא אהרן ומרים ויצאו שניהם׃

Then Yahweh came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the entrance of the tent, —and called Aaron and Miriam, and they both went forth.

6 ויאמר שמעו נא דברי אם יהיה נביאכם יהוה במראה אליו אתודע בחלום אדבר בו׃

Then said he Hear, I beseech you my words. When ye have your prophet, As Yahweh in a vision, will I make myself known, unto him; In a dream, will I speak with him.

7 לא כן עבדי משה בכל ביתי נאמן הוא׃

Not so, my servant Moses, —In all my house, trusty, is he:

8 פה אל פה אדבר בו ומראה ולא בחידת ותמנת יהוה יביט ומדוע לא יראתם לדבר בעבדי במשה׃

Mouth to mouth, do I speak with him And plainly—not in dark sayings, And the form of Yahweh, doth he discern, —Wherefore then, were ye not afraid to speak against my servant—against Moses?

9 ויחר אף יהוה בם וילך׃

And the anger of Yahweh kindled upon them and he departed.

10 והענן סר מעל האהל והנה מרים מצרעת כשלג ויפן אהרן אל מרים והנה מצרעת׃

And, when, the cloud, removed from off the tent, —lo! Miriam, leprous, like snow! And Aaron turned unto Miriam and lo! …leprous!

11 ויאמר אהרן אל משה בי אדני אל נא תשת עלינו חטאת אשר נואלנו ואשר חטאנו׃

Then said Aaron unto Moses, —Oh my lord, do not I beseech thee lay upon us sin, although we have made ourselves foolish, and although we have sinned.

12 אל נא תהי כמת אשר בצאתו מרחם אמו ויאכל חצי בשרו׃

Let her not, I beseech thee, remain like the still-born, —which when it is born of its mother, the half of its flesh is consumed.

13 ויצעק משה אל יהוה לאמר אל נא רפא נא לה׃

Then Moses made outcry unto Yahweh, saying, —O GOD, I beseech thee grant healing. I beseech thee unto her.

14 ויאמר יהוה אל משה ואביה ירק ירק בפניה הלא תכלם שבעת ימים תסגר שבעת ימים מחוץ למחנה ואחר תאסף׃

And Yahweh said unto Moses: If, her own father, had, but spat, in her face, would she not, have acknowledged the shame for seven days? Let her shut herself up for seven days, outside the camp, and afterwards, let her be received back.

15 ותסגר מרים מחוץ למחנה שבעת ימים והעם לא נסע עד האסף מרים׃

So Miriam shut herself up, outside the camp, for seven days, —and, the people, set not forward, until Miriam had been received back.

16 ואחר נסעו העם מחצרות ויחנו במדבר פארן׃

Then afterwards, did the people set forward from Hazeroth, and encamped in the desert of Paran.
