מתיו 25
| אז תדמה מלכות השמים לעשר עלמות אשר לקחו את נרותיהן ותצאנה לקראת החתן׃ | 1 |
“Then the kingdom of the heavens will be like ten virgins who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the bridegroom.
| חמש מהן היו חכמות וחמש כסילות׃ | 2 |
Now five of them were prudent and five foolish.
| הכסילות לקחו את הנרות ולא לקחו עמהן שמן׃ | 3 |
Those who were foolish, taking their lamps, did not take [extra] oil with them,
| והחכמות לקחו שמן בכליהן ואת נרותיהן׃ | 4 |
but the prudent ones took oil in their vessels along with their lamps.
| וכאשר בשש החתן לבוא ותנמנה כלן ותרדמנה׃ | 5 |
Now while the bridegroom delayed they all dozed and slept,
| ויהי בחצות הלילה ותהי צוחה הנה החתן צאינה לקראתו׃ | 6 |
but at midnight there was a shout: ‘Attention! The bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him.’
| אז התעוררו כל העלמות ההן ותיטבנה את נרותיהן׃ | 7 |
Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.
| ותאמרנה הכסילות אל החכמות תנה לנו משמנכן כי יכבו נרותינו׃ | 8 |
And the foolish ones said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’
| ותענינה החכמות לאמר לא כן פן יחסר לנו ולכן כי אם לכנה אל המוכרים וקנינה לכן׃ | 9 |
But the prudent ones answered saying, ‘No, in case there not be enough for you and us; instead, go to those who sell and buy for yourselves.’
| ויהי בעת לכתן לקנות ויבוא החתן והנכנות ללכת באו אתו אל החתנה ותסגר הדלת׃ | 10 |
But while they went to buy, the bridegroom arrived, and the ones who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast—and the door was shut!
| ואחרי כן באו גם שאר העלמות ותאמרנה אדנינו אדנינו פתח לנו׃ | 11 |
Later the other virgins arrived too saying, ‘Lord, lord, open for us!’
| ויען ויאמר אמן אמר אני לכן לא ידעתי אתכן׃ | 12 |
But in answer he said, ‘Assuredly I say to you, I do not know you.’
| לכן שקדו כי אינכם יודעים את היום ואת השעה אשר יבא בה בן האדם׃ | 13 |
Therefore, keep alert, because you do not know the day nor the hour in which the Son of the Man is coming.
| כי כמו איש נסע למרחוק אשר קרא אל עבדיו וימסר להם את רכושו׃ | 14 |
“Because the kingdom is also like a man about to go on a long journey, who called his own servants and entrusted his possessions to them.
| ויתן לזה חמש ככרים ולזה שתים ולזה אחת לכל איש ואיש כפי ערכו וימהר ויסע משם׃ | 15 |
To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on the journey.
| וילך האיש הלקח חמש ככרים ויסחר בהן ויעש לו חמש ככרים אחרות׃ | 16 |
So the one who received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.
| וכן הלקח שתים גם הוא הרויח שתים אחרות׃ | 17 |
So also the one who received the two gained another two as well.
| אך לקח האחת הלך ויחפר באדמה ויטמן את כסף אדניו׃ | 18 |
But he who received the one went off and dug in the ground and hid his lord's silver.
| ואחרי ימים רבים בא אדוני העבדים ההם ויעש חשבון עמהם׃ | 19 |
“Then, after a long time, the lord of those servants comes and settles accounts with them.
| ויגש הלקח חמש הככרים ויבא חמש ככרים אחרות לאמר אדני חמש ככרים מסרת לי הנה חמש ככרים אחרות הרוחתי בהן׃ | 20 |
“So the one who had received the five talents approached and brought five more talents saying, ‘Lord, you entrusted five talents to me; see, I gained five more talents besides them!’
| ויאמר אליו אדניו כן העבד הטוב והנאמן כי במעט נאמן היית ועל הרבה אפקידך בוא אל שמחת אדניך׃ | 21 |
His lord said to him: ‘Super, you good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things, I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
| ויגש גם לקח הככרים ויאמר אדני ככרים מסרת לי הנה ככרים הרוחתי בהן׃ | 22 |
So the one who had received the two talents also approached and said, ‘Lord, you entrusted two talents to me; see, I gained two more talents besides them!’
| ויאמר אליו אדניו היטבת העבד הטוב והנאמן במזער נאמן היית ועל הרבה אפקידך בוא אל שמחת אדניך׃ | 23 |
His lord said to him: ‘Super, you good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things, I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
| ויגש גם הלקח את הככר האחת ויאמר אדני ידעתיך כי איש קשה אתה קצר באשר לא זרעת וכנס מאשר לא פזרת׃ | 24 |
“Then he who had received the one talent also approached and said: ‘Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you did not scatter.
| ואירא ואלך ואטמן את ככרך באדמה ועתה הא לך את אשר לך׃ | 25 |
And being afraid I went off and hid your talent in the ground; here, take what is yours.’
| ויען אדניו ויאמר אליו העבד הרע והעצל אתה ידעת כי קצר אנכי באשר לא זרעתי וכנס מאשר לא פזרתי׃ | 26 |
So in answer his lord said to him: ‘You wicked and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I did not scatter.
| לכן היה עליך לתת את כספי לשלחנים ואני בבואי הייתי לקח את אשר לי בתרבית׃ | 27 |
Therefore you were obligated to deposit my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received what is mine with interest.
| על כן שאו ממנו את הככר ותנו אל האיש אשר לו עשר הככרים׃ | 28 |
Therefore, take the talent away from him and give it to the one having the ten talents.
| כי כל איש אשר יש לו ינתן לו ויעדיף והאיש אשר אין לו גם את אשר לו יקח ממנו׃ | 29 |
For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but the one who does not have, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away from him.
| ואת עבד הבליעל השליכו אל החשך החיצון שם תהיה היללה וחרק השנים׃ | 30 |
And throw out the useless servant, into the darkness farthest out!’ There, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
| והיה כי יבוא בן האדם בכבודו וכל המלאכים הקדשים עמו וישב על כסא כבודו׃ | 31 |
“When the Son of the Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on His throne of glory.
| ונאספו לפניו כל הגוים והפריד בינותם כאשר יפריד הרעה את הכבשים מן העתודים׃ | 32 |
And all the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
| והציב את הכבשים לימינו ואת העתודים לשמאלו׃ | 33 |
And the sheep He will place on His right, but the goats on His left.
| אז יאמר המלך אל הנצבים לימינו באו ברוכי אבי ורשו את המלכות המוכנה לכם למן הוסד העולם׃ | 34 |
Then the King will say to those on His right: ‘Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom that was prepared for you at the foundation of the world.
| כי רעב הייתי ותאכילני צמא הייתי ותשקוני גר הייתי ותאספוני׃ | 35 |
For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in;
| ערום ותכסוני חולה ותבקרוני במשמר הייתי ותבאו אלי׃ | 36 |
I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me.’
| וענו הצדיקים ואמרו אדנינו מתי ראינוך רעב ונכלכלך או צמא ונשקה אותך׃ | 37 |
Then the righteous will answer Him saying: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?
| ומתי ראינוך גר ונאספך או ערם ונכסך׃ | 38 |
When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you?
| ומתי ראינוך חולה או במשמר ונבא אליך׃ | 39 |
Or when did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?’
| והמלך יענה ויאמר אליהם אמן אמר אני לכם מה שעשיתם לאחד מאחי הצעירים האלה לי עשיתם׃ | 40 |
And in answer the King will say to them, ‘Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
| ואז יאמר גם אל הנצבים לשמאלו לכו מעלי אתם הארורים אל אש עולם המוכנה לשטן ולמלאכיו׃ (aiōnios g166) | 41 |
“Then He will also say to those on His left: ‘Go away from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire that was prepared for the devil and his angels. (aiōnios g166)
| כי רעב הייתי ולא האכלתם אותי צמא הייתי ולא השקיתם אותי׃ | 42 |
For I was hungry and you did not give me food; I was thirsty and you did not give me drink;
| גר הייתי ולא אספתם אותי ערום ולא כסיתם אותי חולה ובמשמר ולא בקרתם אותי׃ | 43 |
I was a stranger and you did not take me in; I was naked and you did not clothe me; I was sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’
| וענו גם הם ואמרו אדנינו מתי ראינוך רעב או צמא או גר או ערום או חולה או במשמר ולא שרתנוך׃ | 44 |
Then they also will answer saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to you?’
| אז יענה אתם לאמר אמן אמר אני לכם מה שלא עשיתם לאחד מן הצעירים האלה גם לי לא עשיתם׃ | 45 |
Then He will answer them saying, ‘Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, neither did you do it to me.’
