מתיו 16
| ויגשו הפרושים והצדוקים לנסותו וישאלו מאתו להראותם אות מן השמים׃ | 1 |
Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came to him, and in order to test him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
| ויען ויאמר להם בערב תאמרו יום צח יהיה כי אדמו השמים׃ | 2 |
In answer he said. "In the evening you say, ‘It will be fine weather, for the sky is red as fire’;
| ובבקר תאמרו היום סער כי אדמו והתקדרו השמים חנפים אתם את פני השמים ידעתם לבחן ואתות העתים לא תוכלו׃ | 3 |
and at dawn you say, ‘It will storm today, for the sky is red and lowering.’ You know how to discern the look of the sky, but the signs of the times you cannot read.
| דור רע ומנאף בקש לו אות ואות לא ינתן לו בלתי אם אות יונה הנביא ויעזבם וילך לו׃ | 4 |
A wicked and faithless generation is seeking a sign, but no sign shall be given it but the sign of Jonah." So he left them and went away.
| וכבוא התלמידים אל עבר הים שכחו לקחת אתם לחם׃ | 5 |
When his disciples reached the other side of the lake, they had forgotten to bring bread.
| ויאמר ישוע אליהם ראו והשמרו לכם משאר הפרושים והצדוקים׃ | 6 |
Presently Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees."
| ויחשבו בלבבם לאמר כי לא לקחנו אתנו לחם׃ | 7 |
And they began discussing it among themselves, saying, "It is because we did not bring any bread."
| וידע ישוע ויאמר אליהם קטני האמונה מה תחשבו בלבבכם כי לא לקחתם אתכם לחם׃ | 8 |
When Jesus knew it he said. "Weaklings in faith! Why are you arguing among yourselves, because you have no bread?
| העוד לא תשכילו ולא תזכרו את חמשת ככרות הלחם לחמשת אלפי איש וכמה סלים נשאתם׃ | 9 |
"Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many large basketfuls you took up?
| ואת שבע ככרות לחם לארבעת אלפי איש וכמה דודים נשאתם׃ | 10 |
"Nor the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many large basketfuls you took up?
| איך לא תבינו כי לא על הלחם אמרתי אליכם השמרו לכם משאר הפרושים והצדוקים׃ | 11 |
"How is it that you do not perceive that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But beware off the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees!"
| אז הבינו כי לא אמר להשמר משאר הלחם כי אם מלמוד הפרושים והצדוקים׃ | 12 |
Then they realized that he had not told them to beware of the leaven, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
| ויהי כבוא ישוע אל גלילות קיסרין של פילפוס וישאל את תלמידיו לאמר מה אמרים האנשים עלי מי הוא בן האדם׃ | 13 |
When Jesus came into the neighborhood of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of man is?"
| ויאמרו יש אמרים יוחנן המטביל הוא ואחרים אמרים אליהו ויש אמרים ירמיהו או אחד מן הנביאים׃ | 14 |
They replied, "Some say ‘Johnthe Baptist’; others, however, say that’He is Elijah’; others, ‘Jeremiah,’ or ‘One of the Prophets.’"
| ויאמר אליהם ואתם מה תאמרו מי אני׃ | 15 |
"And who do you say that I am?" he asked them.
| ויען שמעון פטרוס ויאמר אתה הוא המשיח בן אלהים חיים׃ | 16 |
So Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
| ויען ויאמר אליו אשריך שמעון בר יונה כי בשר ודם לא גלה לך את זאת כי אם אבי שבשמים׃ | 17 |
"Blessed are you, Simon, Son of Jonah," said Jesus; "for flesh and blood have not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven!
| ואף אני אמר אליך כי אתה פטרוס ועל הסלע הזה אבנה את קהלתי ושערי שאול לא יגברו עליה׃ (Hadēs g86) | 18 |
"Moreover I say to you that you are Petros (a rock), and on this petra (rock) I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her. (Hadēs g86)
| ואתן לך את מפתחות מלכות השמים וכל אשר תאסר על הארץ אסור יהיה בשמים וכל אשר תתיר על הארץ מתר יהיה בשמים׃ | 19 |
"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind upon the earth shall be bound in the heavens, and whatever you loose upon earth shall be loosed in the heavens."
| אז צוה את התלמידים בגערה לבלתי הגיד לאיש כי הוא ישוע המשיח׃ | 20 |
Then he enjoined his disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
| מן העת ההיא החל ישוע להורות את תלמידיו שהוא צריך ללכת ירושלים ויענה הרבה בידי הזקנים והכהנים הגדולים והסופרים ויהרג וביום השלישי קום יקום׃ | 21 |
After this Jesus the Christ began to show his disciples how he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things at the hands of the elders and chief priests and Scribes, and be put to death, and on the third day be raised again.
| ויקחהו פטרוס ויחל לגער בו לאמר חס לך אדני אל יהי לך כזאת׃ | 22 |
Then Peter took him aside and began to reprove him, saying. "God forbid, Master! That shall never befall you."
| ויפן ויאמר לפטרוס סור מעלי השטן למכשול אתה לי כי אין לבך לדברי אלהים כי אם לדברי בני אדם׃ | 23 |
But he turned and said to Peter. "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling-block to me, because you are not intent on what pleases God, but what pleases men."
| ויאמר ישוע אל תלמידיו איש כי יחפץ ללכת אחרי יכחש בנפשו ונשא את צלבו והלך אחרי׃ | 24 |
Then Jesus said to his disciples. "If any man wishes to come after me, let him renounce self, take up his cross, and follow me.
| כי כל אשר יחפץ להושיע את נפשו תאבד נפשו ממנו וכל אשר תאבד לו נפשו למעני הוא ימצאנה׃ | 25 |
For he who wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
| כי מה יועיל האדם כי יקנה את כל העולם ונפשו תשחת או מה יתן האדם פדיון נפשו׃ | 26 |
What will it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
| כי עתיד בן האדם לבוא בכבוד אביו עם מלאכיו ואז ישלם לכל איש כמעשהו׃ | 27 |
For the Son of man is about to come in the glory of his Father, and his angels with him, and then will he reward each one in accordance with his actions.
| אמן אמר אני לכם כי יש מן העמדים פה אשר לא יטעמו מות עד כי יראו את בן האדם בא במלכותו׃ | 28 |
Solemnly I tell you, some of those who are standing here shall not taste death, till they have seen the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
