| וששת ימים לפני חג הפסח בא ישוע לבית היני מקום לעזר אשר העיר אתו מעם המתים׃ | 1 |
JESUS then before the days of the passover came to Bethany, where the deceased Lazarus was, whom he had raised from the dead.
| ויעשו לו שם משתה בערב ומרתא משרתת ולעזר היה אחד מן המסבים אתו׃ | 2 |
Therefore they made him a supper there; and Martha waited: but Lazarus was one of those who sat at table with him.
| ותקח מרים מרקחת נרד זך ויקר מאד לטרא אחת משקלה ותמשח בה את רגלי ישוע ותנגב את רגליו בשערותיה והבית ימלא ריח המרקחת׃ | 3 |
Then Mary taking a pound of unadulterated balm of nard, very valuable, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
| ויאמר אחד מתלמידיו הוא יהודה בן שמעון איש קריות העתיד למסרו׃ | 4 |
Then said one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, who was preparing to betray him,
| מדוע לא נמכרה המרקחת בשלש מאות דינר ונתן לעניים׃ | 5 |
Wherefore was not this aromatic ointment sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?
| והוא לא דבר את זאת מחמלתו על העניים כי אם גנב היה וכיס הכסף אתו וישא כל אשר ישימו בו׃ | 6 |
Now he said this, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and kept the purse, and carried the money put therein.
| ויאמר ישוע הניחה לה ליום קבורתי צפנה זאת׃ | 7 |
Then said Jesus, Let her alone: for the day of my burial hath she reserved this.
| כי העניים תמיד המה עמכם ואני אינני תמיד עמכם׃ | 8 |
For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.
| וישמעו עם רב ביהודה כי שם הוא ויבאו לא בעבור ישוע לבדו כי אם לראות גם את לעזר אשר העירו מעם המתים׃ | 9 |
Then the whole multitude of the Jews knew that he was there: and they came not for the sake of Jesus only, but also that they might see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
| וראשי הכהנים התיעצו להרג גם את לעזר׃ | 10 |
Then the chief priests consulted how they might kill Lazarus also;
| כי בגללו באו שמה רבים מן היהודים ויאמינו בישוע׃ | 11 |
because on his account many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
| ויהי ממחרת כשמוע המון רב אשר באו לחג החג כי יבא ישוע ירושלים׃ | 12 |
On the morrow a great multitude who came to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
| ויקחו בידם כפות תמרים ויצאו לקראתו ויריעו לאמר הושע נא ברוך הבא בשם יהוה מלך ישראל׃ | 13 |
took branches of palm, and went out to meet him, and cried, Hosanna! blessed is the king of Israel, that cometh in the name of the Lord.
| וימצא ישוע עיר אחד וירכב עליו כאשר כתוב׃ | 14 |
Then Jesus, having found a young ass, sat upon it; as it is written,
| אל תיראי בת ציון הנה מלכך יבוא לך רכב על עיר בן אתנות׃ | 15 |
“Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on the foal of an ass.”
| וכל זאת לא הבינו תלמידיו בראשונה אך אחרי אשר נתפאר ישוע זכרו כי כן כתוב עליו וכי זאת עשו לו׃ | 16 |
These things indeed knew not his disciples at first: but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
| ויעידו העם אשר היו אצלו בקראו אל לעזר לצאת מן הקבר ויער אתו מעם המתים׃ | 17 |
Then the multitude that was with him, when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bore their testimony.
| על זאת גם המון העם יצא לקראתו על שמעם כי עשה האות הזה׃ | 18 |
Therefore also the multitude met him, because they had heard that he had done this miracle.
| והפרושים דברו איש את אחיו לאמר הראיתם כי הועיל לא תועילו מאומה הנה כל העולם נמשך אחריו׃ | 19 |
Then said the Pharisees among themselves, Do ye not perceive that ye gain no advantage? behold, the world is gone after him.
| ובתוך העלים להשתחות בחג היו אנשים יונים׃ | 20 |
Now there were certain Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast:
| ויקרבו אל פילפוס איש בית צידה אשר בארץ הגליל וישאלו ממנו לאמר אדני לראות את ישוע חפצנו׃ | 21 |
these then came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida, of Galilee, and they asked him, saying, Sir, we wish to see Jesus.
| ויבא פילפוס ויגד זאת אל אנדרי ואנדרי ופילפוס הגידו אל ישוע׃ | 22 |
Philip comes and speaks to Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
| ויען אותם ישוע ויאמר באה השעה שיפאר בן האדם׃ | 23 |
Then Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
| אמן אמן אני אמר לכם אם לא יפל גרגר החטא אל תוך האדמה ומת ישאר לבדו וכאשר מת יעשה פרי הרבה׃ | 24 |
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat falling on the earth undergo a deathlike change, it abideth single: but if it thus die, it beareth abundant produce.
| האהב את נפשו יאבדנה והשנא את נפשו בעולם הזה ינצרה לחיי נצח׃ (aiōnios g166) | 25 |
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, shall preserve it to life eternal. (aiōnios g166)
| החפץ לשרתני ילך אחרי ובאשר אהיה שם יהיה גם משרתי ואיש אשר ישרתני אתו יכבד אבי׃ | 26 |
If a man will be my servant, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall my servant be: and if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
| עתה נבהלה נפשי ומה אמר הושיעני אבי מן השעה הזאת אך על כן באתי אל השעה הזאת׃ | 27 |
Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
| אבי פאר את שמך ותצא בת קול מן השמים גם פארתי וגם אוסיף לפאר׃ | 28 |
Father, glorify thy name! Then came a voice from heaven, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
| והעם העמדים שמה כשמעם אמרו רעם נשמע ואחרים אמרו מלאך דבר אתו׃ | 29 |
The multitude that stood by, and heard it, said that it was thunder: others said, An angel hath spoken to him.
| ויען ישוע ויאמר לא למעני היה הקול הזה כי אם למענכם׃ | 30 |
Jesus answered and said, This voice came not for my sake, but for your’s.
| עתה משפט בא על העולם הזה עתה ישלך שר העולם הזה חוצה׃ | 31 |
Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the ruler of this world be ejected out of it.
| ואני בהנשאי מעל הארץ אמשך כלם אלי׃ | 32 |
And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
| וזאת דבר לרמוז אי זה מות הוא עתיד למות׃ | 33 |
And this he said, signifying by what death he should die.
| ויענו אתו העם ויאמרו הנה שמענו בתורה כי המשיח יכון לעולם ואיך אמרת כי בן האדם צריך להנשא ומי בן האדם הלזה׃ (aiōn g165) | 34 |
Then the multitude answered him, We have heard out of the law, that the Messiah abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, That the Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? (aiōn g165)
| ויאמר אליהם ישוע אך למצער יהיה האור עמכם התהלכו בעוד לכם האור פן ישופכם חשך וההלך בחשך לא ידע אנה הוא הלך׃ | 35 |
Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest the darkness overtake you: he that walketh in darkness, knoweth not even whither he is going.
| בעוד לכם האור האמינו באור למען תהיו בני האור את הדברים האלה דבר ישוע וילך לו ויסתר מפניהם׃ | 36 |
While ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of the light. These things spake Jesus, and going away, concealed himself from them.
| רבים האתות אשר עשה לעיניהם ובכל זאת לא האמינו בו׃ | 37 |
Now, though he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not on him:
| למלאת דבר ישעיהו הנביא אשר אמר יהוה מי האמין לשמעתנו וזרוע יהוה על מי נגלתה׃ | 38 |
that the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, “Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
| על כן לא יכלו להאמין כי עוד אמר ישעיהו׃ | 39 |
For this reason they could not believe, because Isaiah had said again;
| השע עיניהם והשמין לבבם פן יראו בעיניהם ולבבם יבין ושבו ורפאתי להם׃ | 40 |
“He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their hearts; lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with the heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.”
| כזאת דבר ישעיהו בראותו את תפארתו וינבא עליו׃ | 41 |
These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
| אולם רבים אף מן השרים האמינו בו אך בגלל הפרושים לא הודו למען אשר לא ינדו׃ | 42 |
However, notwithstanding, many even of the rulers believed on him; but on account of the Pharisees they did not make open profession, lest they should be put out of the synagogues:
| כי אהבו כבוד אנשים יותר מכבוד האלהים׃ | 43 |
for they loved honour from men, more than honour from God.
| ויקרא ישוע ויאמר המאמין בי לא בי הוא מאמין כי אם בשלח אתי׃ | 44 |
Then Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
| והראה אתי את אשר שלחני הוא ראה׃ | 45 |
And he that seeth me, seeth him that sent me.
| אני באתי לאור אל העולם למען כל אשר יאמין בי לא ישב בחשך׃ | 46 |
I am come a light into the world, that every one who believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
| והשמע את דברי ולא ישמרם אני לא אשפט אתו כי לא באתי לשפט את העולם כי אם להושיע את העולם׃ | 47 |
And if any man, hearing my words, believeth not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
| ואיש אשר יבזני ולא יקח אמרי יש אחד אשר ידין אתו הדבר אשר דברתי הוא ידין אתו ביום האחרון׃ | 48 |
He that sets me at nought, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: even the word which I have spoken, the same shall judge him at the last day.
| כי אני לא מלבי דברתי כי אם אבי השלח אתי הוא צוני את אשר אמר ואת אשר אדבר׃ | 49 |
Because I have not spoken of myself; but the Farther who has sent me, he gave me commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
