יַעֲקֹב 5
| הוי העשירים בכו והילילו על הצרות אשר תבאנה עליכם׃ | 1 |
Come now, ye rich men, weep and wail for your miseries that are coming upon you.
| עשרכם בלה ובגדיכם אכלם עש׃ | 2 |
Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are become moth-eaten;
| זהבכם וכספכם כסתם חלאה והיתה חלאתם בכם לעדות ואכלה כמו אש את בשרכם אצרתם לכם אוצרות בקץ הימים׃ | 3 |
your gold and silver is rusted, and the rust of them will be a witness against you, and will eat your flesh as fire; ye have heaped up treasure in the last days!
| הנה שכר הפעלים אספי קציר שדתיכם אשר עשקתם צעק עליכם וצעקת הקוצרים באה באזני יהוה צבאות׃ | 4 |
Behold, the hire of the laborers who reaped your fields, which is fraudulently kept back by you, crieth out; and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts.
| התעדנתם בארץ והתענגתם והשמנתם את לבכם כמו ליום טבחה׃ | 5 |
Ye have lived in luxury on the earth, and have been given to pleasure; ye have pampered your hearts in a day of slaughter.
| הרשעתם והמתם את הצדיק והוא נענה לא יפתח פיו׃ | 6 |
Ye have condemned, ye have killed the just man; he doth not resist you.
| לכן אחי דמו והוחילו עד בוא האדון הנה האכר מחכה לטוב תבואת האדמה בהוחילו כי ירד עליה גשם יורה ומלקוש׃ | 7 |
Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and is patient about it, until it hath received the early and latter rain.
| כן הוחילו גם אתם ואמצו לבבכם כי קרוב האדון לבא׃ | 8 |
Be ye also patient, establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
| אחי אל תתאוננו איש על רעהו פן תשפטו הנה השופט עמד לפתח׃ | 9 |
Murmur not against each other, brethren, that ye be not judged. Behold, the Judge standeth before the door.
| אחי הנביאים אשר דברו בשם יהוה הם יהיו לכם למופת העני והתוחלת׃ | 10 |
Take, brethren, the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, for an example of affliction, and of patience.
| הנה מאשרים אנחנו את הסבלים את סבלנות איוב שמעתכם ואת אחרית האדון ראיתם כי רחום וחנון יהוה׃ | 11 |
Behold, we count those happy who have endured. Ye have heard of the patience of Job; behold also the end of the Lord, that he is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
| וראש דבר אחי לא תשבעו לא בשמים ולא בארץ ולא בכל שבועה אחרת ויהי הן שלכם הן ולא שלכם לא פן תפלו בידי הדין׃ | 12 |
But above all things, my brethren, swear not; neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay; that ye fall not under condemnation.
| כי יצר לאיש בכם הוא יתפלל ואשר ייטב לבו הוא יזמר׃ | 13 |
Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any cheerful? let him sing praise.
| איש כי יחלה בכם יקרא את זקני הקהלה ויתפללו בעדו ויסוכהו שמן בשם יהוה׃ | 14 |
Is any sick among you? let him call to him the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
| ותפלת האמונה תושיע את החולה ויהוה יקימנו ואשר חטא יסלח לו׃ | 15 |
And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up; even if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.
| התודו עונותיכם איש לפני רעהו והתפללו איש בעד רעהו למען תרפאו כי גדול כח תפלת הצדיק הקרא אל אלהים בחזקה׃ | 16 |
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
| אליהו אנוש אנוש היה כמנו והתפלל תפלה שלא יהיה מטר ולא היה מטר בארץ שלש שנים וששה חדשים׃ | 17 |
Elijah was a man of like nature with us, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months;
| וישב ויתפלל והשמים נתנו מטר והארץ הצמיחה את פריה׃ | 18 |
and again he prayed, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
| אחי כי יתעה איש בכם מן האמת ואיש אחר ישיבנו׃ | 19 |
Brethren, if any one among you be led astray from the truth, and one convert him,
| ידוע ידע כי המשיב את החוטא מעקשות דרכו הוא יושיע את נפשו ממות ויכסה על המון פשעים׃ | 20 |
let him know that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.
