דברים 10

1 בעת ההוא אמר יהוה אלי פסל לך שני לוחת אבנים כראשנים ועלה אלי ההרה ועשית לך ארון עץ׃

At that time Yahweh said to me, 'Carve two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to me on the mountain, and make an ark of wood.

2 ואכתב על הלחת את הדברים אשר היו על הלחת הראשנים אשר שברת ושמתם בארון׃

I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets that you broke, and you will put them in the ark.'

3 ואעש ארון עצי שטים ואפסל שני לחת אבנים כראשנים ואעל ההרה ושני הלחת בידי׃

So I made an ark of acacia wood, and I carved two tablets of stone like the first, and I went up the mountain, having the two tablets in my hand.

4 ויכתב על הלחת כמכתב הראשון את עשרת הדברים אשר דבר יהוה אליכם בהר מתוך האש ביום הקהל ויתנם יהוה אלי׃

He wrote on the tablets, like the first writing, the Ten Commandments which Yahweh had spoken to you on the mountain out of the middle of the fire on the day of the assembly; then Yahweh gave them to me.

5 ואפן וארד מן ההר ואשם את הלחת בארון אשר עשיתי ויהיו שם כאשר צוני יהוה׃

I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark that I had made; there they are, as Yahweh commanded me.”

6 ובני ישראל נסעו מבארת בני יעקן מוסרה שם מת אהרן ויקבר שם ויכהן אלעזר בנו תחתיו׃

(The people of Israel journeyed from Beeroth Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried; Eleazar, his son, served in the priest's office in his place.

7 משם נסעו הגדגדה ומן הגדגדה יטבתה ארץ נחלי מים׃

From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of streams of water.

8 בעת ההוא הבדיל יהוה את שבט הלוי לשאת את ארון ברית יהוה לעמד לפני יהוה לשרתו ולברך בשמו עד היום הזה׃

At that time Yahweh chose the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, to stand before Yahweh to serve him, and to bless people in his name, as today.

9 על כן לא היה ללוי חלק ונחלה עם אחיו יהוה הוא נחלתו כאשר דבר יהוה אלהיך לו׃

Therefore Levi has no portion nor inheritance of land with his brothers; Yahweh is his inheritance, as Yahweh your God spoke to him.)

10 ואנכי עמדתי בהר כימים הראשנים ארבעים יום וארבעים לילה וישמע יהוה אלי גם בפעם ההוא לא אבה יהוה השחיתך׃

“I stayed on the mountain as at the first time, forty days and forty nights. Yahweh listened to me that time also; Yahweh did not wish to destroy you.

11 ויאמר יהוה אלי קום לך למסע לפני העם ויבאו וירשו את הארץ אשר נשבעתי לאבתם לתת להם׃

Yahweh said to me, 'Arise, go before the people to lead them on their journey; they will go in and possess the land that I swore to their ancestors to give to them.'

12 ועתה ישראל מה יהוה אלהיך שאל מעמך כי אם ליראה את יהוה אלהיך ללכת בכל דרכיו ולאהבה אתו ולעבד את יהוה אלהיך בכל לבבך ובכל נפשך׃

Now, Israel, what does Yahweh your God require of you, except to fear Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, and to worship Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

13 לשמר את מצות יהוה ואת חקתיו אשר אנכי מצוך היום לטוב לך׃

to keep the commandments of Yahweh, and his statutes, which I am commanding you today for your own good?

14 הן ליהוה אלהיך השמים ושמי השמים הארץ וכל אשר בה׃

Behold, to Yahweh your God belongs heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth, with all that is in them.

15 רק באבתיך חשק יהוה לאהבה אותם ויבחר בזרעם אחריהם בכם מכל העמים כיום הזה׃

Only Yahweh took pleasure in your fathers so as to love them, and he chose you, their descendants, after them, more than any of the other peoples, as he does today.

16 ומלתם את ערלת לבבכם וערפכם לא תקשו עוד׃

Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stubborn no longer.

17 כי יהוה אלהיכם הוא אלהי האלהים ואדני האדנים האל הגדל הגבר והנורא אשר לא ישא פנים ולא יקח שחד׃

For Yahweh your God, he is God of gods and Lord of masters, the great God, the mighty one and the fearsome one, who favors no one and takes no bribes.

18 עשה משפט יתום ואלמנה ואהב גר לתת לו לחם ושמלה׃

He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and he shows love for the foreigner by giving him food and clothing.

19 ואהבתם את הגר כי גרים הייתם בארץ מצרים׃

Therefore love the foreigner; for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

20 את יהוה אלהיך תירא אתו תעבד ובו תדבק ובשמו תשבע׃

You will fear Yahweh your God; him will you worship. To him you must cling, and by his name will you swear.

21 הוא תהלתך והוא אלהיך אשר עשה אתך את הגדלת ואת הנוראת האלה אשר ראו עיניך׃

He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done for you these great and fearsome things, which your eyes have seen.

22 בשבעים נפש ירדו אבתיך מצרימה ועתה שמך יהוה אלהיך ככוכבי השמים לרב׃

Your fathers went down into Egypt as seventy persons; now Yahweh your God has made you as many as the stars of the heavens.
