מַעֲשֵׂי הַשְּׁלִיחִים 9
| ושאול עודנו יפח זעם ורצח על תלמידי האדון ויבא אל הכהן הגדול׃ | 1 |
And Saul, still breathing out threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the chief priest,
| וישאל מאתו מכתבים לדמשק אל בתי הכנסיות למען אשר יאסר את אשר ימצא בדרך ההיא אנשים או נשים ויביאם ירושלים׃ | 2 |
and asked of him letters to Damascus, for the synagogues, that, if he should find any who were of this persuasion, either men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
| ויהי הוא הלך וקרב לדמשק והנה פתאם נגה עליו מסביב אור מן השמים׃ | 3 |
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus; and suddenly there shone round about him a light from heaven.
| ויפל ארצה וישמע קול מדבר אליו שאול שאול למה תרדפני׃ | 4 |
And when he had fallen to the earth, he heard a voice saying to him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?
| ויאמר מי אתה אדני ויאמר האדון אנכי ישוע אשר אתה רודף קשה לך לבעט בדרבנות׃ | 5 |
He answered: Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said: I am Jesus, whom you persecute.
| והוא חרד ונבעת ויאמר אדני מה תחפץ ואעשה ויען האדון קום לך העירה ויאמר לך את אשר עליך לעשות׃ | 6 |
But rise, and go into the city, and it shall be told you what you must do.
| והאנשים אשר הלכו אתו עמדו נאלמים כי שמעו את הקול ואיש לא הביטו׃ | 7 |
The men who journeyed with him stood amazed; for they heard a voice, but saw no one.
| ויקם שאול מן הארץ ובפתחו את עיניו לא ראה איש ויחזיקו בידו ויוליכהו לדמשק׃ | 8 |
And Saul arose from the earth, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one; but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.
| ויחשכו עיניו מראות שלשת ימים ולא אכל ולא שתה׃ | 9 |
And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
| ותלמיד אחד היה בדמשק חנניה שמו ויאמר אליו האדון במחזה חנניה ויאמר הנני אדני׃ | 10 |
Now there was a certain disciple in Damascus, named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision: Ananias. He answered: Behold me, Lord.
| ויאמר אליו האדון קום לך אל הרחוב הנקרא הישר ושאל בבית יהודה לאיש טרסי ושמו שאול כי הנה הוא מתפלל׃ | 11 |
And the Lord said to him: Arise, and go into the street that is called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus: for behold, he is praying;
| וירא במחזה והנה איש ושמו חנניה בא החדרה ושם עליו את ידו למען ישוב ויראה׃ | 12 |
and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias, coming in and laying his hand on him, that he may receive his sight.
| ויען חנניה ויאמר אדני שמעתי רבים מספרים על האיש הזה כמה רעות עשה לקדושיך בירושלים׃ | 13 |
But Ananias answered: Lord, I have heard from many of this man, how much evil he has done to thy saints in Jerusalem;
| וגם פה רשיון יש לו מאת ראשי הכהנים לאסר את כל הקראים בשמך׃ | 14 |
and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all that call upon thy name.
| ויאמר אליו האדון לך כי כלי חפץ הוא לי לשאת את שמי לפני גוים ומלכים ולפני בני ישראל׃ | 15 |
But the Lord said to him: Go; for he is a vessel chosen by me to bear my name before nations and kings, and the sons of Israel.
| כי אני אראהו כמה יש לו לסבל למען שמי׃ | 16 |
For I will show him what great things he must suffer for my name.
| וילך חנניה ויבא הביתה וישם את ידיו עליו ויאמר שאול אחי האדון ישוע הנראה אליך בדרך אשר באת בה שלחני למען תשוב ותראה ותמלא רוח הקדש׃ | 17 |
And Ananias went, and entered the house, and laying his hands on him, said: Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me, that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
| וכרגע נפלו מעל עיניו כמו קשקשים וישב פתאם לראות ויקם ויטבל׃ | 18 |
And immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he instantly received his sight; and he arose, and was immersed.
| ויאכל לחם ויחזק וישב שאול ימים אחדים עם התלמידים אשר בדמשק׃ | 19 |
And, having taken food, he was strengthened. And he was with the disciples in Damascus for some days;
| וימהר ויקרא בבתי הכנסיות את המשיח לאמר כי הוא הוא בן האלהים׃ | 20 |
and immediately he preached Jesus in the synagogues, that he is the Sou of God.
| וישתוממו כל השמעים ויאמרו הלא זה הוא אשר האביד בירושלים את קראי השם הזה ולמען זאת בא הנה להביאם אסורים לפני ראשי הכהנים׃ | 21 |
And all that heard him were astonished, and said: Is not this he who destroyed in Jerusalem those that call on this name, and who has come hither for this purpose, that he might carry them bound to the chief priests?
| ושאול היה הולך וחזק ויהם את היהודים ישבי דמשק בהוכיחו כי זה הוא המשיח׃ | 22 |
But Saul increased the more in strength, and confuted the Jews that dwelt in Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.
| ויהי כי ארכו לו שם הימים ויועצו היהודים יחדו להמיתו׃ | 23 |
And, after many days had passed, the Jews determined to kill him.
| ויודע לשאול ארבם והמה שמרו את השערים יומם ולילה למען ימיתהו׃ | 24 |
And their plot was made known to Saul; and they watched the gates day and night, that they might kill him.
| ויקחו אתו התלמידים לילה ויורידהו בסל בעד החומה׃ | 25 |
But the disciples took him by night, and let him down through the vail in a basket,
| ויהי כבוא שאול ירושלימה ויבקש להלות אל התלמידים וייראו כלם מפניו ולא האמינו כי תלמיד הוא׃ | 26 |
And having come to Jerusalem, he attempted to associate with the disciples: and they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple.
| ויקח אתו בר נבא ויביאהו אל השליחים ויספר להם את אשר ראה בדרך את האדון וכי הוא דבר אליו ואיך בדמשק השמיע בבטחון את שם ישוע׃ | 27 |
But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and told them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had boldly preached in Damascus in the name of Jesus.
| ויהי אתם יוצא ובא בירושלים׃ | 28 |
And he was with them in Jerusalem, coming in and going out; and, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus,
| ויקרא בבטחון בשם האדון ישוע וידבר ויתוכח גם עם היהודים היונים והם זממו להמיתו׃ | 29 |
he conversed and reasoned with the Hellenists; but they undertook to kill him.
| וישמעו האחים ויורידו אתו לקסרין וישלחהו אל טרסוס׃ | 30 |
And when the brethren learned this, they brought him down to Cæsarea, and sent him out to Tarsus.
| ויהי שלום לקהלות בכל מקמות יהודה והגליל ושמרון ותבנינה ותתהלכנה ביראת האדון ותרבינה בנחמת רוח הקדש׃ | 31 |
Then the churches throughout the whole of Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, and were edified; and, walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.
| ויהי בסבב פטרוס בכל המקמות וירד גם אל הקדושים אשר ישבו בלד׃ | 32 |
And it came to pass that Peter, passing through all the places, came down also to the saints that dwelt in Lydda.
| וימצא שם איש שמו אניס והוא שכב על משכבו זה שמנה שנים והוא נכה אברים׃ | 33 |
And he found there a certain man named Æneas, who was a paralytic, and had kept his bed for eight years.
| ויאמר אליו פטרוס אניס רפאך ישוע המשיח קום הצע לך אתה ויקם פתאם׃ | 34 |
And Peter said to him: Æneas, Jesus the Christ restores you to health; arise, and spread your bed for yourself. And he immediately arose;
| ויראו אותו כל ישבי לד והשרון ויפנו אל האדון׃ | 35 |
and all that dwelt in Lydda and Saron saw him; and they turned to the Lord.
| ותלמידה ביפו ושמה טביתא תרגומו צביה והיא מלאה מעשים טובים וצדקות אשר עשתה׃ | 36 |
Now there was in Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which name, when translated, is Dorcas. She was full of good works and deeds of charity which she did.
| ויהי בימים ההם ותחלה ותמת וירחצו אתה וישימוה בעליה׃ | 37 |
And it came to pass, in those days, that she was taken sick, and died. And when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.
| ולד קרובה היא ליפו וישמעו התלמידים כי פטרוס שם וישלחו אליו שני אנשים ויפצרו בו לבלתי העצל לעבר אליהם׃ | 38 |
And as Lydda was near to Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, requesting him to make no delay in coming to them.
| ויקם פטרוס וילך אתם ובבאו העלהו אל העליה ותנשנה אליו כל האלמנות בוכיות ומראות לו את הכתנת ואת הבגדים אשר עשתה צביה בעודה עמהן׃ | 39 |
Then Peter arose, and went with them; and when he had come, they brought him into the upper room; and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments that Dorcas made while she was with them.
| ויוצא פטרוס את כלם החוצה ויכרע על ברכיו ויתפלל ויפן אל גויתה ויאמר טביתא קומי ותפתח את עיניה ותרא את פטרוס ותתעודד׃ | 40 |
But Peter put them all out, and kneeled down and prayed; and turning to the body, he said: Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
| וישלח ידו ויקם אתה ויקרא את הקדושים ואת האלמנות ויעמד אתה חיה לפניהם׃ | 41 |
And he gave her his hand, and raised her up. And when he had called in the saints and the widows, he presented her alive.
| ויודע הדבר בכל יפו ויאמינו רבים באדון׃ | 42 |
And it was known throughout all Joppa, and many believed on the Lord.
| ויואל לשבת ביפו ימים רבים עם בורסי אחד ושמו שמעון׃ | 43 |
And it came to pass, that he remained many days in Joppa with one Simon, a tanner.
