הַשֵּׁנִית לְפֶטְרוֹס 3

1 זאת היא האגרת השנית אשר אני כתב אליכם אהובים ובשתיהן אעיר בדרך הזכרה את תמת לבבכם׃

Now this, my beloved, the second epistle I write to you; in both of which I awaken to remembrance your fair mind.

2 לזכר את הדברים הנאמרים מקדם בידי הנביאים הקדשים ואת מצות אדנינו ומושיענו אשר נתנה בידנו השליחים׃

That you may remember the words which were before spoken by the holy prophets, and the commandments of our Lord and our Saviour (delivered) by the apostles.

3 ודעו זאת לכם ראשנה כי באחרית הימים יבאו לצים ההלכים אחרי תאות נפשם ויתלוצצו לאמר׃

This first know you, that there will come in the last of the days deriders who will deride, as after their own lusts they walk,

4 איה הבטחת באו כי מאז שכבו האבות הכל עמד כמו מראשית הבריאה׃

and saying, Where is the promise of his advent? for, since our fathers have slept, every thing (abideth) as from the beginning of the creation.

5 ונסתר מהם באשר לא יאבו לדעת כי מקדם קמו השמים והארץ בדבר אלהים מן המים ועל ידי המים׃

Unknown to them is this while they are willing, that the heaven was from of old, and the earth from the waters and through the waters subsisted, by the word of Aloha:

6 ובמים אבדה תבל מאז כי נשטפה במי המבול׃

those (waters) by which the world that then was, again (was covered) with waters, and perished.

7 גם השמים והארץ אשר לפנינו נצפנו בדברו והם שמורים לאש ליום הדין ואבד אנשי הרשע׃

But the heaven which is now, and the earth, by his own word are set, being reserved unto fire, unto the day of judgment and the perdition of wicked men.

8 וזאת האחת אל תעלם מכם אהובים כי יום אחד כאלף שנים בעיני יהוה ואלף שנים כיום אחד׃

But this one (truth) be not ignorant of, my beloved, That one day with the Lord (is) as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 ולא יאחר יהוה את אשר הבטיח כאשר יש חשבים אתה לאחור כי אך האריך אפו בעבורנו ולא יחפץ באבד איש כי אם בפנות כלם לתשובה׃

Not dilatory is the Lord in his promises, as some consider delay; but is patient on your account, not willing that any man should perish, but (that) every man to repentance should come.

10 בא יבא יום יהוה כגנב בלילה אז השמים בשאון יחלפו והיסדות יבערו והתמגגו והארץ והמעשים אשר עליה ישרפו׃

But the day of the Lord cometh as a thief: that (day) in which the heavens suddenly shall pass away, but the elements burning be dissolved, and the earth and the works that are in it be found not.

11 ועתה אם כל אלה ימוגו מה מאד חיבים אתם להתהלך בקדשה ובחסידות׃

As, therefore, all these are to be dissolved, how behoveth it you to be holy in your conversation, and in the fear of Aloha;

12 ולחכות לבא יום יהוה ולהחיש אתו אשר בגללו השמים ימוגו באש והיסדות יבערו ונמסו׃

expecting and desiring the coming of the day of Aloha; that (day) in which the heavens, tried with fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements burning shall melt?

13 ואנחנו כפי הבטחתו מחכים לשמים חדשים ולארץ חדשה אשר צדק ילין בם׃

But new heavens and earth, according to his promise, we expect; those wherein righteousness dwelleth.

14 על כן אהובים אשר לאלה חכיתם שקדו להמצא לפניו בשלום נקים וזכים מפשע׃

Wherefore, my beloved, while these you expect, be diligent, that, without blemish and without spot, of Him you may be found in peace.

15 ואת ארך רוח אדנינו תחשבו לתשועה כאשר גם אחינו האהוב פולוס כתב אליכם כפי החכמה הנתונה לו׃

And the long-suffering of the Lord consider (to be for) salvation; as also our beloved brother Paulos according to the wisdom which hath been given to him hath written to you.

16 וכן בכל אגרותיו בדברו שם על אלה ובהם יש דברים קשי ההבנה והבערים והפתאים יהפכו אתם כאשר גם יעשו לכתבים האחרים לאבדן נפשם׃

As in all his epistles he speaks concerning these; in which there is somewhat difficult for intelligence. Those who are not knowing nor settled pervert them, as also the remaining scriptures, to their perdition.

17 ואתם אהובים אשר ידעתם זאת השמרו לנפשתיכם פן תמשכו אחרי טעות אנשי בליעל ונפלתם ממעזכם׃

You therefore, my beloved, knowing this before, keep yourselves, lest, going after the error of those who are lawless, you fall from your support.

18 ורבו בחסד ובדעת אדנינו ומושיענו ישוע המשיח אשר לו הכבוד גם היום וגם ליום העולם אמן׃ (aiōn g165)

But increase in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and our Saviour Jeshu Meshiha, and (of) Aloha the Father, Whose be glory both now, and in all time, and to the days eternal. Amen. (aiōn g165)
