| כי אתם אחי הנכם ידעים את מבואנו אליכם כי לא היה לריק׃ | 1 |
For you yourselves know, brethren, our entrance among you, that it was not in vain.
| אך אחרי אשר ענינו ולחרפות היינו בפילפי כאשר ידעתם התחזקנו באלהינו להגיד גם לכם את הבשורה בנפתולים רבים׃ | 2 |
But having suffered before, and having been outraged, as you know, in Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in the midst of great peril.
| כי תוכחתנו איננה מתוך טעות וגם לא מתוך טמאה ולא ברמיה׃ | 3 |
For our exhortation arose not from deception, nor from uncleanness, nor was it with guile;
| כי אם כאשר נחשבנו נאמנים לאלהים להפקיד בידנו את הבשורה כן נדבר ולא כחפצים להיות רצוים לבני אדם כי אם לאלהים הבחן לבותנו׃ | 4 |
but as God had judged us worthy to be intrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who tries our hearts.
| כי מעולם לא דברנו בשפת חלקות כאשר ידעתם וגם לא למען בצע בצע האלהים עד׃ | 5 |
For neither nattering words did we at any time use, as you know, nor a pretext for covetousness; God is witness:
| גם לא בקשנו מן האדם כבוד לא מכם ולא מאחרים אף כי היה לנו מקום להתכבד כשליחי המשיח׃ | 6 |
nor did we seek glory from men, neither from you nor from others; though we could have been burdensome as the apostles of Christ.
| אבל הלכנו לאט בתוככם כאמנת מפנקת את בניה׃ | 7 |
But we were gentle among you. As a nurse nourishes her children,
| ובחבבנו ככה אתכם חפצנו לתת לכם לא לבד את בשורת האלהים כי גם את נפשתינו יען כי הייתם חביבים עלינו׃ | 8 |
so, having a strong affection for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but our own lives also, because you had become dear to us.
| הלא תזכרו אחי את יגיעתנו ואת תלאתנו אשר היינו עמלים לילה ויומם לבלתי היות למשא לאיש בבשרנו בקרבכם את בשורת האלהים׃ | 9 |
For you remember, brethren, our labor and toil; for, laboring night and day, that we might not be burdensome to any one of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.
| עדים אתם ועד האלהים כי בקדש ובצדק ובתמים היינו עמכם המאמינים׃ | 10 |
You are witnesses, and God also, in how holy and just and blameless a manner we conducted ourselves among you that believe,
| ואתם ידעתם כי כאב את בניו הזהרנו את כל אחד מכם ודברנו על לבו׃ | 11 |
as indeed you know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father his children,
| ונעד בכם ללכת כראוי לפני האלהים הקורא אתכם למלכותו ולכבודו׃ | 12 |
that you should walk in a manner worthy of God, who has called you to his own kingdom and glory.
| בעבור זאת גם נודה תמיד לאלהים כי אתם בקבלכם מאתנו דבר שמועת האלהים לא קבלתם אותו כדבר בני אדם כי אם כמו שהוא באמת כדבר האלהים אשר הוא גם פעל בכם המאמינים׃ | 13 |
For this reason, also, we thank God without ceasing; because, when you received the word of God, as preached by us, you embraced it, not as the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually works in you that believe.
| כי אתם אחי הלכתם בעקבי קהלות האלהים אשר בארץ יהודה במשיח ישוע כי סבלתם גם אתם כאלה על ידי בני שבטכם כאשר סבלו גם המה על ידי היהודים׃ | 14 |
For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God in Judea which are in Christ Jesus; for you, also, have suffered the same things from your own countrymen, that they have suffered from the Jews,
| אשר אף המיתו את האדון ישוע ואת נביאיהם ואותנו רדפו ואינם טובים בעיני אלהים ואיבים לכל אדם׃ | 15 |
who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and do not please God, and are opposed to all men,
| המנעים אתנו מדבר אל הגוים כי יושעו למען אשר ימלאו את חטאתיהם בכל עת וישיגם החרון עד לכלה׃ | 16 |
forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, in order that they may fill up their sins at all times: but the wrath is coming upon them to the full.
| ואנחנו אחי אחרי אשר שכלנו אתכם לזמן מעט בפנים ולא בלב השתדלנו ביותר לראות פניכם בתשוקה רבה׃ | 17 |
But we, brethren, having been taken from you for a short time, in person, not in heart, did, with great desire, endeavor the more earnestly to see your face.
| ועל כן חפצנו לבוא אליכם אני פולוס פעם ושתים והשטן עצרנו׃ | 18 |
For this reason, we intended to go to you, (I Paul) both once and again, but Satan hindered us.
| כי מי תקותנו ומי שמחתנו ועטרת תפארתנו הלא גם אתם לפני אדנינו ישוע המשיח בבואו׃ | 19 |
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
| אמנם אתם כבודנו ושמחתנו׃ | 20 |
You indeed are our glory and joy.
