הָרִאשׁוֹנָה אֶל־הַקּוֹרִנְתִּיִּים 8
| ועל דבר זבחי האלילים ידענו שיש דעה לכלנו הדעת תגביה לב והאהבה היא הבונה׃ | 1 |
Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
| החשב כי הוא ידע דבר מה עוד לא ידע מאומה כאשר עליו לדעת אתו׃ | 2 |
But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
| אבל אם יאהב איש את האלהים האלהים ידעו׃ | 3 |
But if anyone loves God, the same is known by him.
| ועל דבר אכילת זבחי האלילים הנה ידענו כי האליל אין בעולם ואין אלהים בלתי אחד׃ | 4 |
Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no God but one.
| ואף כי יש הנקראים אלהים אם בשמים אם בארץ באשר יש אלהים רבים ואדנים רבים׃ | 5 |
For though there are things that are called "gods," whether in the heavens or on earth; as there are many "gods" and many "lords;"
| אמנם לנו אך לא אחד האב אשר הכל ממנו ואנחנו אליו ואדון אחד ישוע המשיח אשר הכל על ידו ונחנו על ידו׃ | 6 |
yet to us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Yeshua the Messiah, through whom are all things, and we live through him.
| אך לא בכלם הדעת כי יש אשר בזכרם עוד את האליל אכלים כזבח האליל ובכן לבם החלוש יתגאל׃ | 7 |
However, not all have this knowledge. But some, being so accustomed to idols until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
| המאכל לא יקרב אתכם לאלהים כי אם נאכל אין לנו יתרון ואם לא נאכל לא נגרע׃ | 8 |
But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we do not eat, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.
| אבל הזהרו פן יהיה אתו הרשיון שלכם למכשל החלשים׃ | 9 |
But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.
| כי האיש הראה אתך אשר לך הדעת מסב בבית אלילים הלא יעז ברוחו החלוש לאכל מזבחי אלילים׃ | 10 |
For if someone sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol's temple, won't his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?
| ויאבד על ידי דעתך אחיך החלש אשר למענו מת המשיח׃ | 11 |
And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whom the Messiah died.
| ואם ככה תחטאו לאחיכם ותכאיבו את רוחם החלוש למשיח אתם חטאים׃ | 12 |
Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Messiah.
