אֶל־הָרוֹמִיִּים 13

1 על כל אדם לציית לשלטונות, כי אין שלטון שלא בזכות הסכמת אלוהים, והשלטונות הקיימים נקבעו על־ידי אלוהים.

Let every soule submit him selfe vnto the auctorite of ye hyer powers. For there is no power but of God.

2 לכן, המסרבים לציית לשלטונות ולחוקיהם, ממרים למעשה את פי האלוהים, והוא יענישם.

The powers that be are ordeyned of God. Whosoever therfore resysteth power resisteth the ordinaunce of God. And they that resist shall receave to the selfe damnacio.

3 אזרח טוב וישר אינו פוחד מהמשטרה והחוק; אדם שאינו ישר פוחד מהם. לכן, אם אינך רוצה לחשוש מהשלטונות, שמור על החוק, והשלטונות ישבחו אותך.

For rulars are not to be feared for good workes but for evyll Wilt thou be with out feare of the power? Do well then: and so shalt thou be praysed of the same.

4 איש החוק נשלח על־ידי אלוהים כדי לעזור לך, אבל אם אתה עובר על החוק יש לך ממה לחשוש, כי הם המחזיקים בחרב ויש להם זכות להשליט סדר ולהעניש. לשם כך שלח אותו אלוהים.

For he is the minister of God for thy welth. But and yf thou do evyll then feare: for he beareth not a swearde for nought: but is the minister of God to take vengeaunce on them that do evyll.

5 אם כן, עלינו לשמור את החוק לא רק כדי שלא ניענש, אלא גם לשמור על מצפון נקי.

Wherfore ye must nedes obeye not for feare of vengeaunce only: but also because of conscience.

6 מאותה סיבה עלינו גם לשלם מסים, כי עובדי הממשלה והרשויות, שמונו על־ידי אלוהים, צריכים לקבל את משכורתם, כדי שיוכלו להמשיך לשמור על הסדר הציבורי.

And even for this cause paye ye tribute. For they are goddes ministers servynge for the same purpose.

7 תנו לכל אחד את המגיע לו: מס לשלטונות המס, מכס לשלטונות המכס. צייתו לממונים עליכם וכבדו את הראויים לכבוד.

Geve to every man therfore his duetie: Tribute to whom tribute belongeth: Custome to whom custome is due: feare to whom feare belongeth: Honoure to who honoure pertayneth

8 אל תהיו חייבים דבר לאיש – מלבד אהבה, שכן אדם האוהב את הזולת מקיים את תורת אלוהים.

Owe nothinge to eny man: but to love one another. For he that loveth another fulfylleth the lawe.

9 שהרי אם אתה אוהב את חברך כמוך, לא תרצה לפגוע בו! לא תפתה את אשתו לבגוד בו, לא תרצח אותו, לא תגנוב ממנו, לא תעיד נגדו עדות שקר, לא תקנא בו ולא תעשה כל דבר אחר שנאסר עלינו בעשרת הדיברות. כי כל הדיברות כלולים במצווה אחת:”ואהבת לרעך כמוך.“

For these commaundementes: Thou shalt not comit advoutry: Thou shalt not kyll: Thou shalt not steale: Thou shalt not beare false witnes: Thou shalt not desyre and so forth (yf there be eny other comaundement) they are all comprehended in this sayinge: Love thyne neghbour as thy selfe.

10 עלינו לאהוב איש את רעהו, כי האהבה אינה פוגעת באיש, ובכך היא מקיימת את התורה כולה.

Love hurteth not his neghbour. Therfore is love the fulfillynge of the lawe.

11 מדוע אני מדגיש את עניין התנהגותכם? כידוע לכם אנו חיים בזמן מכריע ועלינו להתעורר, שכן ישועת אלוהים וביאת המשיח קרובים אלינו עתה יותר מאשר ביום שבו האמנו לראשונה במשיח.

This also we knowe I mean the season howe that it is tyme that we shuld now awake oute of slepe. For now is oure salvacion nearer then when we beleved.

12 הלילה חלף ויום שובו של המשיח קרב. על כן הפסיקו את מעשי הרשע הנעשים בחשכת הלילה, ועשו מעשים טובים וטהורים כפי שהחיים באור היום צריכים לעשות. עלינו לחיות בצניעות ולא להפקיר את עצמנו לתאוות בשרנו: לא להשתכר, לא לזנות, לא לריב ולא לקנא,

The nyght is passed and the daye is come nye. Let us therfore cast awaye the dedes of darcknes and let vs put on the (Armoure) of lyght.

Let vs walke honestly as it were in the daye lyght: not in eatynge and drinkynge: nether in chamburynge and wantannes: nether in stryfe and envyinge:

14 במקום זאת, לבשו את נוכחות האדון ישוע המשיח, ואל תתנו לעצמכם לחשוב על דרכים להשביע את התאוות הרעות שלכם.

but put ye on the Lorde Iesus Christ. And make not provision for the flesshe to fulfyll ye lustes of it.
