James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes of the Dispersion: Greetings.
| אחים יקרים, אם יש לכם צרות ובעיות, ואם אתם עומדים בפני פיתויים חזקים, תחשיבו זאת כהזדמנות לשמחה גדולה. | 2 |
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds,
| שכן צרות, בעיות ופיתויים מחזקים את כוח הסבל. | 3 |
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
| לכן אל תברחו מהבעיות, אלא תנו לסבלנותכם להתחזק. כאשר תהיה סבלנותכם חזקה די הצורך, לא יחסר לכם דבר, אופייכם יהיה חזק מן הרגיל ותהיו מסוגלים לכל דבר. | 4 |
Allow perseverance to finish its work, so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
| ברצונכם לדעת מה רוצה האלוהים שתעשו? שאלו אותו והוא יגיד לכם ברצון. ה׳ מוכן תמיד להעניק חכמה באהבה וברוחב לב למי שמבקש ממנו, בלי לגעור בו על שביקש. | 5 |
Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
| אך עליכם להאמין, ללא צל של ספק, שהוא באמת ייתן לכם מה שאתם מבקשים ממנו, כי אדם ספקן וחסר־אמונה דומה לגל בים הנישא וניזרק על־ידי הרוח. | 6 |
But he must ask in faith, without doubting, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
| אדם ספקן הוא אדם הפכפך שמשנה את דעתו בכל רגע, שכן אינו בטוח בהחלטותיו. אם אינכם מבקשים באמונה, אל תצפו מה׳ להיענות לכם. | 7 |
That man should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
| 8 |
He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
| מאמין משיחי הנחשב לעני בעולם הזה צריך לשמוח, כי בעיני אלוהים הוא חשוב מאוד, | 9 |
The brother in humble circumstances should exult in his high position.
| והמאמין העשיר צריך לשמוח על שעושרו חסר כל ערך בעיני ה׳. כי כמו הפרח שמאבד את יופיו, מתייבש בקרני השמש הצורבות וָמֶת, כך ימותו העשירים תוך זמן קצר וישאירו אחריהם את כל רכושם. | 10 |
But the one who is rich should exult in his low position, because he will pass away like a flower of the field.
| 11 |
For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
| טוב לאדם שעומד בפיתויים ולא נכשל, כי הוא יקבל פרס – את כתר החיים שהבטיח ה׳ לכל האוהבים אותו. | 12 |
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
| זכרו, אלוהים אף פעם אינו מנסה לפתותכם לעשות מעשים רעים, כי אלוהים עצמו שונא את הרע. לכן, אם אתם עומדים לפני פיתויים שונים, אל תאשימו את אלוהים! | 13 |
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.
| מקור הפיתויים הוא בלב האדם, בתשוקותיו ובמחשבותיו הרעות. | 14 |
But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed.
| המחשבות האלה מולידות מעשים רעים. כאשר נותנים לחטא לצמוח, זה מוליד מוות. | 15 |
Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
| לכן, אחים יקרים, אל תטעו בשום פנים. | 16 |
Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.
| כל המתנות הטובות והמושלמות ניתנות לנו מהאלוהים אשר ברא את כל האורות, ואשר בעצמו מקרין אור נפלא שאינו משתנה ואינו נחלש לעולם. | 17 |
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.
| אלוהים בחר מרצונו החופשי לתת לנו חיים חדשים, באמצעות האמת שבכתבי־הקודש, וכך הפכנו להיות הילדים הראשונים במשפחתו החדשה. | 18 |
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of His creation.
| זכרו, אחים יקרים, כולם צריכים להיות מהירים להקשיב, אך איטיים לדבר ואיטיים להתרגז, | 19 |
My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,
| כי הרוגז מכער אותנו ואת אופיינו, ואילו ה׳ רוצה שנהיה טובים ומושלמים. | 20 |
for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness that God desires.
| על כן היפטרו מכל דבר רע בחייכם, מבפנים ומבחוץ, וקבלו בשמחה ובענווה את דבר אלוהים אשר בכוחו להושיענו. | 21 |
Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save your souls.
| עליכם לבצע את דבר אלוהים הלכה למעשה, כי אם אתם מקשיבים ואינכם מקיימים, אתם מרמים את עצמכם. | 22 |
Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves.
| מי שמקשיב בלבד ואינו מקיים את אשר שמע, דומה לאדם שמביט בדמותו במראה; | 23 |
For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror,
| ברגע שהוא מפנה את גבו למראה, שוב אינו יכול לראות את בבואתו ושוכח כיצד הוא נראה. | 24 |
and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
| אך החוקר והלומד את תורת החופש שנתן ה׳ לבני אדם, לא זו בלבד שיזכור את הכתוב, הוא גם יבצע אותו הלכה למעשה, ואלוהים יברכו בכל מעשיו. | 25 |
But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does.
| הטוען שהוא מאמין משיחי, אך אינו מסוגל לשלוט בלשונו, מרמה את עצמו, ואמונתו אינה שווה הרבה. | 26 |
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless.
| אמונה טהורה ואמיתית בעיני אלוהים האב פירושה לדאוג לאלמנות וליתומים בצרתם, ולסרב להשפעה המטמאת של העולם. | 27 |
Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
