אֶל־הָאֶפְסִיִּים 2

1 פעם הייתם מתים באופן רוחני; הייתם תחת קללת האל בגלל מעשיכם הרעים.

At one time you were dead in your sins and evil actions,

2 חייתם לפי דרך־החיים של העולם הזה ושמעתם לקול השטן, שהוא השליט הרשע של הרוחות הרעות, והפועל עדיין בכל כוחו באנשים המורדים בה׳. (aiōn g165)

living your lives according to the ways of the world, under the control of the devil, whose spirit is at work in those who disobey God. (aiōn g165)

3 כולנו חיינו בעבר בצורה כזאת. אורח־חיינו ביטא את רוע לבנו וכניעתנו לתשוקותינו ותאוותינו. נולדנו בעלי טבע מושחת, והיינו תחת זעם אלוהים כשאר בני־האדם.

All of us were once like that, our behavior determined by the desires of our sinful human nature and our evil way of thinking. Like everyone else, in our nature we were children of anger.

4 אבל אלוהים הוא אב מלא רחמים! הוא אהב אותנו כל־כך,

But God in his generous mercy, because of the amazing love he had for us

5 עד כי למרות שהיינו מתים (באופן רוחני) ואשמים בעיניו בגלל חטאינו, הוא החזיר אותנו לחיים כשהקים לתחייה את המשיח – זכרו שנושענו רק בזכות חסדו הרב –

even while we were dead in our sins, has made us alive together with Christ. Trusting in him has saved you!

6 והעלה אותנו מהקבר עם המשיח, כדי שנשב איתו במרומים.

He raised us up with Christ, and in Christ Jesus seated us with him in heaven,

7 כך הוא מראה לכל הדורות הבאים את רוחב־לבו, טובו וחסדו הנפלא, שביטא כלפינו בישוע המשיח. (aiōn g165)

so that in all eternity to come he could demonstrate the amazing extent of his grace in showing us kindness through Christ Jesus. (aiōn g165)

8 נושעתם בזכות חסדו וטוב־לבו, על־ידי אמונתכם במשיח. כל זאת אינה שלכם; זוהי מתנתו של אלוהים, ואין היא תלויה בשום מעשה שעשיתם.

For you've been saved by grace through trusting in him—it's not through yourselves, it's the gift of God!

9 איננו יכולים להתפאר בישועה זאת, שכן איש מאיתנו לא הרוויח אותה! אלוהים נתן לנו את הישועה הזאת במתנה.

This has nothing to do with human effort, so don't be proud of yourselves.

10 אלוהים עצמו עשה אותנו כפי שאנחנו עכשיו; הוא בחר בנו בישוע המשיח כדי שנעשה מעשים טובים, לפי תוכניתו מקדם.

We're the product of what God does, created in Christ Jesus to do good, which God already planned that we should do.

11 אל תשכחו שנולדתם”ערלים“, ואלה אשר נימולו בידי אדם הם כינו אתכם”ערלים“.

So you who are “foreigners” humanly-speaking, called “uncircumcised” by those who are “circumcised” (which is only a procedure carried out by human beings), you need to remember

12 באותה עת הייתם רחוקים מהמשיח, ונחותים מעם ישראל בחיר האלוהים; לא הייתה לכם כל זכות לבריתות ההבטחה, לא הייתה לכם תקווה ולא היה לכם אל.

that once you had no relationship to Christ. You were barred as foreigners from being citizens of Israel, strangers to the agreement God had promised. You had no hope and you lived in the world without God.

13 אבל עכשיו אתם שייכים לישוע המשיח, ולמרות שפעם הייתם רחוקים מאלוהים, כעת אתם קרובים אליו בזכות דמו של המשיח שנשפך למענכם.

But now, in Christ Jesus, you who were once a long way off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

14 כי המשיח עצמו הוא שלומנו; הוא השכין שלום בינינו היהודים לביניכם הגויים, כשהרס את המחיצה בינינו ועשה משנינו אחד.

Christ is our peace. Through his body he made the two into one, and broke down the separating wall of hostility that divided us,

15 על־ידי מותו שם המשיח קץ לשנאה ולאיבה שהייתה בינינו – איבה שנבעה מכך שחוקי התורה היו לטובת היהודים ולא כללו את הגויים – כי המשיח מת כדי לבטל את שיטת חוקי התורה. ואז הוא לקח את שתי הקבוצות שהתנגדו זו לזו ועשה מהן גוף אחד. כך הוא מיזג אותנו יחדיו ויצר מאיתנו אדם אחד חדש, וכך עשה שלום.

freeing us from the law with its requirements and regulations. He did this so he could create in himself one new person out of the two and so make peace,

16 כאיברים של גוף אחד, נעלמה האיבה שהייתה בינינו, כי המשיח שם קץ לאיבה המתמדת בינינו וריצה אותנו לאלוהים בהקריבו את עצמו על הצלב.

and completely reconcile both of them to God through the cross as if they were just one body, having destroyed our hostility towards each other.

17 ואז הוא בישר את בשורת השלום לכם, הגויים, שהייתם רחוקים ממנו, ולנו, היהודים, שהיינו קרובים.

He came and shared the good news of peace with those of you who were far away, and those who were nearby,

18 עתה באמצעותו ובזכותו יכולים כולנו, יהודים וגויים, לבוא אל אלוהים האב בעזרת רוח הקודש.

because through him we both gain access to the Father through the same Spirit.

19 אם כן, עתה אינכם זרים ונחותים, אלא בני־משפחתו של אלוהים ואזרחים בממלכת אלוהים, יחד עם כל המאמינים האחרים.

That means you're no longer strangers and foreigners; you are fellow citizens of God's people and belong to God's family

20 אתם בנויים על היסודות שהניחו השליחים והנביאים, וישוע המשיח עצמו הוא אבן הפינה.

that's being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.

21 אנחנו, המאמינים, מחוברים אל המשיח ואיש אל רעהו בהתאמה, וכולנו מהווים היכל קודש לה׳.

In him the whole building is joined together, growing to form a holy temple for the Lord.

22 גם אתם מחוברים אל המשיח ואיש אל רעהו, ומהווים משכן לרוח הקודש של אלוהים.

You too are being built together in him as a place for God to live by the Spirit.
