הַשֵּׁנִית לְיוֹחָנָן 1

1 לכבוד המאמינה המשיחית, הגברת הבחירה, וילדיה האהובים עלי ועל כל הקהילה. מאת יוחנן – הזקן בזקני הקהילה.

The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

2 אדוננו ואלוהינו יברך את כולנו בשלום, ברחמים ובאהבה, בזכות האמת החקוקה בלבנו לנצח. (aiōn g165)

For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. (aiōn g165)

Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4 שמחתי מאוד לפגוש כאן אחדים מילדיך, ולהיווכח שהם מתנהגים כראוי, אוהבים את האמת ושומרים את מצוות ה׳.

I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

5 גברתי הנכבדה, ברצוני להזכיר לך את אחת המצוות הראשונות שציווה עלינו ה׳: לאהוב איש את רעהו.

And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6 מי שבאמת אוהב את ה׳ עושה כל מה שה׳ מצווה עליו, והוא הרי ציווה עלינו מבראשית לאהוב איש את רעהו.

And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

7 היזהרו ממורי השקר שמסתובבים בכל מקום. אין הם מאמינים שישוע המשיח בא לעולם כבן־אדם בשר ודם. אנשים אלה הם אויבי האמת ושונאי המשיח.

For many deceivers have entered into the world, who confess not Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

8 היזהרו לבל ישפיעו עליכם, פן תפסידו את הפרס שאתם ואני משתדלים מאוד להשיג. עשו הכול כדי לקבל את שכרכם המלא מהאדון.

Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

9 מי שמנסה להתחכם ולעבור על תורת המשיח – אין האלוהים איתו, ואילו אדם שנשאר נאמן לתורת המשיח – גם האלוהים וגם המשיח איתו.

Whoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10 אם ירצה מישהו ללמד אתכם תורה ששונה מתורת המשיח, אל תזמינוהו לביתכם ואף אל תדברו איתו! שהרי כל מי שמעודד אותו נעשה שותף למעשיו הרעים.

If any one cometh to you, and bringeth not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither wish him greetings:

For he that wisheth him greetings is partaker of his evil deeds.

12 יש לי עוד הרבה לומר, אך לא אעלה זאת על הנייר, שכן אני מקווה לפגוש אתכם בקרוב פנים אל פנים, ואז נוכל לשוחח ולשמוח יחד.

Having many things to write to you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come to you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

13 ילדי אחותך המאמינה מוסרים לך דרישת שלום חמה.

The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
