הָשֵּׁנִית אֶל־הַקּוֹרִנְתִּיִים 10

1 אני, פולוס, מתחנן לפניכם בענווה, כפי שהמשיח היה מתחנן לפניכם. אחדים מכם טוענים:”מכתביו של פולוס נועזים כל עוד הוא רחוק מאתנו, אך בבואו הנה יפחד להרים את קולו!“

This is me Paul, personally appealing to you through Christ's kindness and gentleness, the one who is “shy” when I have to face you but who is “bold” when I'm not there.

2 אני מתחנן לפניכם שלא תאלצוני לנהוג בכם ביד קשה בבואי אליכם, כי אני בטוח שאוכל לנהוג בחומרה באלה שטוענים שמעשי ומניעי הינם של אדם רגיל.

I'm pleading with you, so that the next time I'm with you I won't have to be as tough as I think I'll have to be, boldly dealing with those who think we behave in worldly ways.

3 אני אמנם אדם רגיל וחלש, אך איני נלחם את מלחמותיי בדרך אנושית רגילה.

Even though we live in this world, we don't fight as the world does.

4 איני נלחם בכלי מלחמה רגילים, אלא בכלי המלחמה של אלוהים, ובעזרתם אני הורס את מבצרי השטן.

Our weapons are not of this world but God's mighty power that destroys fortresses of human thinking, demolishing misleading theories.

5 אכן, כלי מלחמה אלה יכולים למוטט תחבולות וכל דבר שמתנשא נגד דעת אלוהים. בעזרתם אני מכניע את אלה לציות למשיח.

Every high wall that stands tall and proud against the knowledge of God is knocked down. Every rebel idea is captured and brought into obedient agreement with Christ.

6 אני מוכן להעניש כל הפרת משמעת עד שתושלם המשמעת שלכם במשיח.

When you are completely obeying Christ then we're ready to punish any disobedience.

7 הבעיה אתכם היא, שאתם מסתכלים רק בקנקן ולא במה שיש בו. אם מישהו בטוח בעצמו שהוא שייך למשיח, שלא ישכח שאני שייך למשיח בדיוק כמוהו!

Look at what's staring you in the face! Anyone who considers that they belong to Christ should think again—just as they belong to Christ, so do we!

8 גם אם נראה שאני מתגאה מדי על הסמכות שנתן לי האדון, לבנותכם ולא לפגוע בכם, איני מתבייש.

Even though I may seem to be boasting a little too much about our authority, I'm not embarrassed about it. The Lord gave this authority to us to build you up, not to knock you down.

9 אני אומר זאת כדי שלא תחשבו שאני מאיים עליכם סתם במכתבי.

I'm not trying to scare you by my letters.

10 ”אל תשימו לב למכתביו של פולוס“, אומרים אחדים מכם.”הוא אמנם נשמע מרשים ותקיף, אך בבואו אלינו אישית תראו שהוא חלש ודיבורו אינו משכנע.“

People say, “His letters are tough and severe, but in person he's feeble, and he's a useless speaker.”

11 הפעם ביקורי האישי יהיה מרשים ותקיף כמכתבי.

People like that should realize that what we say through letters when we're not there we will do when we are there!

12 כמובן שאיני מעיז לכלול את עצמי עם אלה שמשבחים את עצמם, ואף לא להשוות את עצמי אליהם. מה טיפשים הם! הם משווים את עצמם לעצמם, ושופטים את עצמם על־פי קנה המידה שקבעו בעצמם.

We're not so arrogant to compare ourselves with those who think so much of themselves. Those who measure themselves by themselves, and compare themselves with themselves, are really foolish!

13 אנחנו לעומתם איננו מתפארים יתר על המידה; אנו מתפארים רק בתחום העבודה שהקצה לנו אלוהים, ואתם נכללים בתחום זה.

But we won't boast about ourselves in extravagant terms that can't be measured. We simply measure what we have done using God's system of measurement that he gave us—and that includes you.

14 איננו מפריזים בסמכותנו עליכם, שכן אנו הבאנו לכם ראשונים את בשורת המשיח.

We are not over-extending our authority in saying this, as if we didn't get as far as you, for we did get to you and share with you the good news of Christ.

15 איננו מתפארים בדברים מעבר לתחומנו, ואף לא בעמלם של אחרים. אנו רק מקווים שאמונתכם תגדל ושעבודתנו ביניכם תגדל גם היא, אך רק בתחום שהוקצה לנו.

We're not boasting in extravagant terms that can't be measured, claiming credit for what others have done. On the contrary, we hope that as your trust in God grows, our work among you will greatly increase.

16 לאחר מכן נוכל לבשר את הבשורה לערים הרחוקות מכם, היכן שאיש אינו מבשר את הבשורה, וכך לא נפלוש לתחומם של אחרים.

Then we can share the good news in places way beyond you, without boasting about what's already been done where someone else has worked.

17 הכתובים אומרים:”המתהלל יתהלל בה׳!“

“If anyone wants to boast, boast about the Lord.”

18 כי הלא אין ערך רב להתפארותו של אדם בעצמו, אך כאשר אלוהים משבח אדם יש לשבח ערך רב!

It's not those who praise themselves that are respected, but those that the Lord praises.
