[The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.
קֵינָ֥ן מַהֲלַלְאֵ֖ל יָֽרֶד׃ | 2 |
[Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.
חֲנ֥וֹךְ מְתוּשֶׁ֖לַח לָֽמֶךְ׃ | 3 |
[Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.
נֹ֥חַ שֵׁ֖ם חָ֥ם וָיָֽפֶת׃ ס | 4 |
[Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
בְּנֵ֣י יֶ֔פֶת גֹּ֣מֶר וּמָג֔וֹג וּמָדַ֖י וְיָוָ֣ן וְתֻבָ֑ל וּמֶ֖שֶׁךְ וְתִירָֽס׃ ס | 5 |
The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
וּבְנֵ֖י גֹּ֑מֶר אַשְׁכֲּנַ֥ז וְדִיפַ֖ת וְתוֹגַרְמָֽה׃ | 6 |
The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
וּבְנֵ֥י יָוָ֖ן אֱלִישָׁ֣ה וְתַרְשִׁ֑ישָׁה כִּתִּ֖ים וְרוֹדָנִֽים׃ ס | 7 |
The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
בְּנֵ֖י חָ֑ם כּ֥וּשׁ וּמִצְרַ֖יִם פּ֥וּט וּכְנָֽעַן׃ | 8 |
The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.
וּבְנֵ֣י כ֔וּשׁ סְבָא֙ וַחֲוִילָ֔ה וְסַבְתָּ֥א וְרַעְמָ֖א וְסַבְתְּכָ֑א וּבְנֵ֥י רַעְמָ֖א שְׁבָ֥א וּדְדָֽן׃ ס | 9 |
The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
וְכ֖וּשׁ יָלַ֣ד אֶת־נִמְר֑וֹד ה֣וּא הֵחֵ֔ל לִהְי֥וֹת גִּבּ֖וֹר בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ ס | 10 |
Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.
וּמִצְרַ֡יִם יָלַ֞ד אֶת־לודיים וְאֶת־עֲנָמִ֛ים וְאֶת־לְהָבִ֖ים וְאֶת־נַפְתֻּחִֽים׃ | 11 |
Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,
וְֽאֶת־פַּתְרֻסִ֞ים וְאֶת־כַּסְלֻחִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָצְא֥וּ מִשָּׁ֛ם פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים וְאֶת־כַּפְתֹּרִֽים׃ ס | 12 |
the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.
וּכְנַ֗עַן יָלַ֛ד אֶת־צִיד֥וֹן בְּכֹר֖וֹ וְאֶת־חֵֽת׃ | 13 |
Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,
וְאֶת־הַיְבוּסִי֙ וְאֶת־הָ֣אֱמֹרִ֔י וְאֵ֖ת הַגִּרְגָּשִֽׁי׃ | 14 |
the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,
וְאֶת־הַחִוִּ֥י וְאֶת־הַֽעַרְקִ֖י וְאֶת־הַסִּינִֽי׃ | 15 |
the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,
וְאֶת־הָאַרְוָדִ֥י וְאֶת־הַצְּמָרִ֖י וְאֶת־הַֽחֲמָתִֽי׃ ס | 16 |
the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.
בְּנֵ֣י שֵׁ֔ם עֵילָ֣ם וְאַשּׁ֔וּר וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁ֖ד וְל֣וּד וַאֲרָ֑ם וְע֥וּץ וְח֖וּל וְגֶ֥תֶר וָמֶֽשֶׁךְ׃ ס | 17 |
The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.
וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁ֖ד יָלַ֣ד אֶת־שָׁ֑לַח וְשֶׁ֖לַח יָלַ֥ד אֶת־עֵֽבֶר׃ | 18 |
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.
וּלְעֵ֥בֶר יֻלַּ֖ד שְׁנֵ֣י בָנִ֑ים שֵׁ֣ם הָאֶחָ֞ד פֶּ֗לֶג כִּ֤י בְיָמָיו֙ נִפְלְגָ֣ה הָאָ֔רֶץ וְשֵׁ֥ם אָחִ֖יו יָקְטָֽן׃ | 19 |
Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.
וְיָקְטָ֣ן יָלַ֔ד אֶת־אַלְמוֹדָ֖ד וְאֶת־שָׁ֑לֶף וְאֶת־חֲצַרְמָ֖וֶת וְאֶת־יָֽרַח׃ | 20 |
Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
וְאֶת־הֲדוֹרָ֥ם וְאֶת־אוּזָ֖ל וְאֶת־דִּקְלָֽה׃ | 21 |
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
וְאֶת־עֵיבָ֥ל וְאֶת־אֲבִימָאֵ֖ל וְאֶת־שְׁבָֽא׃ | 22 |
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
וְאֶת־אוֹפִ֥יר וְאֶת־חֲוִילָ֖ה וְאֶת־יוֹבָ֑ב כָּל־אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י יָקְטָֽן׃ ס | 23 |
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
שֵׁ֥ם ׀ אַרְפַּכְשַׁ֖ד שָֽׁלַח׃ | 24 |
The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,
עֵ֥בֶר פֶּ֖לֶג רְעֽוּ׃ | 25 |
Eber, Peleg, Reu,
שְׂר֥וּג נָח֖וֹר תָּֽרַח׃ | 26 |
Serug, Nahor, Terah,
אַבְרָ֖ם ה֥וּא אַבְרָהָֽם׃ ס | 27 |
and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.
בְּנֵי֙ אַבְרָהָ֔ם יִצְחָ֖ק וְיִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃ ס | 28 |
Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.
אֵ֖לֶּה תֹּלְדוֹתָ֑ם בְּכ֤וֹר יִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ נְבָי֔וֹת וְקֵדָ֥ר וְאַדְבְּאֵ֖ל וּמִבְשָֽׂם׃ | 29 |
[The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
מִשְׁמָ֣ע וְדוּמָ֔ה מַשָּׂ֖א חֲדַ֥ד וְתֵימָֽא׃ | 30 |
Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,
יְט֥וּר נָפִ֖ישׁ וָקֵ֑דְמָה אֵ֥לֶּה הֵ֖ם בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃ ס | 31 |
Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
וּבְנֵ֨י קְטוּרָ֜ה פִּילֶ֣גֶשׁ אַבְרָהָ֗ם יָלְדָ֞ה אֶת־זִמְרָ֧ן וְיָקְשָׁ֛ן וּמְדָ֥ן וּמִדְיָ֖ן וְיִשְׁבָּ֣ק וְשׁ֑וּחַ וּבְנֵ֥י יָקְשָׁ֖ן שְׁבָ֥א וּדְדָֽן׃ ס | 32 |
[After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
וּבְנֵ֣י מִדְיָ֗ן עֵיפָ֤ה וָעֵ֙פֶר֙ וַחֲנ֔וֹךְ וַאֲבִידָ֖ע וְאֶלְדָּעָ֑ה כָּל־אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י קְטוּרָֽה׃ ס | 33 |
Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
וַיּ֥וֹלֶד אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֶת־יִצְחָ֑ק ס בְּנֵ֣י יִצְחָ֔ק עֵשָׂ֖ו וְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ ס | 34 |
The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.
בְּנֵ֖י עֵשָׂ֑ו אֱלִיפַ֛ז רְעוּאֵ֥ל וִיע֖וּשׁ וְיַעְלָ֥ם וְקֹֽרַח׃ ס | 35 |
The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
בְּנֵ֖י אֱלִיפָ֑ז תֵּימָ֤ן וְאוֹמָר֙ צְפִ֣י וְגַעְתָּ֔ם קְנַ֖ז וְתִמְנָ֥ע וַעֲמָלֵֽק׃ ס | 36 |
The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
בְּנֵ֖י רְעוּאֵ֑ל נַ֥חַת זֶ֖רַח שַׁמָּ֥ה וּמִזָּֽה׃ ס | 37 |
Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
וּבְנֵ֣י שֵׂעִ֔יר לוֹטָ֥ן וְשׁוֹבָ֖ל וְצִבְע֣וֹן וַֽעֲנָ֑ה וְדִישֹׁ֥ן וְאֵ֖צֶר וְדִישָֽׁן׃ | 38 |
[Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
וּבְנֵ֥י לוֹטָ֖ן חֹרִ֣י וְהוֹמָ֑ם וַאֲח֥וֹת לוֹטָ֖ן תִּמְנָֽע׃ ס | 39 |
Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
בְּנֵ֣י שׁוֹבָ֔ל עַלְיָ֧ן וּמָנַ֛חַת וְעֵיבָ֖ל שְׁפִ֣י וְאוֹנָ֑ם ס וּבְנֵ֥י צִבְע֖וֹן אַיָּ֥ה וַעֲנָֽה׃ | 40 |
Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
בְּנֵ֥י עֲנָ֖ה דִּישׁ֑וֹן ס וּבְנֵ֣י דִישׁ֔וֹן חַמְרָ֥ן וְאֶשְׁבָּ֖ן וְיִתְרָ֥ן וּכְרָֽן׃ ס | 41 |
Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
בְּֽנֵי־אֵ֔צֶר בִּלְהָ֥ן וְזַעֲוָ֖ן יַעֲקָ֑ן בְּנֵ֥י דִישׁ֖וֹן ע֥וּץ וַאֲרָֽן׃ פ | 42 |
Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
וְאֵ֣לֶּה הַמְּלָכִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר מָלְכוּ֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ אֱד֔וֹם לִפְנֵ֥י מְלָךְ־מֶ֖לֶךְ לִבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בֶּ֚לַע בֶּן־בְּע֔וֹר וְשֵׁ֥ם עִיר֖וֹ דִּנְהָֽבָה׃ | 43 |
[These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.
וַיָּ֖מָת בָּ֑לַע וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו יוֹבָ֥ב בֶּן־זֶ֖רַח מִבָּצְרָֽה׃ | 44 |
When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.
וַיָּ֖מָת יוֹבָ֑ב וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו חוּשָׁ֖ם מֵאֶ֥רֶץ הַתֵּימָנִֽי׃ | 45 |
When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
וַיָּ֖מָת חוּשָׁ֑ם וַיִּמְלֹ֨ךְ תַּחְתָּ֜יו הֲדַ֣ד בֶּן־בְּדַ֗ד הַמַּכֶּ֤ה אֶת־מִדְיָן֙ בִּשְׂדֵ֣ה מוֹאָ֔ב וְשֵׁ֥ם עִיר֖וֹ עיות׃ | 46 |
When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].
וַיָּ֖מָת הֲדָ֑ד וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו שַׂמְלָ֖ה מִמַּשְׂרֵקָֽה׃ | 47 |
When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
וַיָּ֖מָת שַׂמְלָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו שָׁא֖וּל מֵרְחֹב֥וֹת הַנָּהָֽר׃ | 48 |
When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.
וַיָּ֖מָת שָׁא֑וּל וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו בַּ֥עַל חָנָ֖ן בֶּן־עַכְבּֽוֹר׃ | 49 |
When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.
וַיָּ֙מָת֙ בַּ֣עַל חָנָ֔ן וַיִּמְלֹ֤ךְ תַּחְתָּיו֙ הֲדַ֔ד וְשֵׁ֥ם עִיר֖וֹ פָּ֑עִי וְשֵׁ֨ם אִשְׁתּ֤וֹ מְהֵיטַבְאֵל֙ בַּת־מַטְרֵ֔ד בַּ֖ת מֵ֥י זָהָֽב׃ | 50 |
When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
וַיָּ֖מָת הֲדָ֑ד ס וַיִּהְיוּ֙ אַלּוּפֵ֣י אֱד֔וֹם אַלּ֥וּף תִּמְנָ֛ע אַלּ֥וּף עליה אַלּ֥וּף יְתֵֽת׃ | 51 |
Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
אַלּ֧וּף אָהֳלִיבָמָ֛ה אַלּ֥וּף אֵלָ֖ה אַלּ֥וּף פִּינֹֽן׃ | 52 |
Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
אַלּ֥וּף קְנַ֛ז אַלּ֥וּף תֵּימָ֖ן אַלּ֣וּף מִבְצָֽר׃ | 53 |
Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
אַלּ֥וּף מַגְדִּיאֵ֖ל אַלּ֣וּף עִירָ֑ם אֵ֖לֶּה אַלּוּפֵ֥י אֱדֽוֹם׃ פ | 54 |
Magdiel, and Iram.
