תהילים 89

1 מַשְׂכִּיל לְאֵיתָן הָֽאֶזְרָחִֽי׃ חַֽסְדֵי יְהוָה עוֹלָם אָשִׁירָה לְדֹר וָדֹר ׀ אוֹדִיעַ אֱמוּנָתְךָ בְּפִֽי׃

A maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of Yahweh's acts of covenant faithfulness forever. I will proclaim your truthfulness to future generations.

2 כִּֽי־אָמַרְתִּי עוֹלָם חֶסֶד יִבָּנֶה שָׁמַיִם ׀ תָּכִן אֱמוּנָתְךָ בָהֶֽם׃

For I have said, “Covenant faithfulness has been established forever; your truthfulness you have established in the heavens.”

3 כָּרַתִּֽי בְרִית לִבְחִירִי נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי לְדָוִד עַבְדִּֽי׃

“I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have made an oath to David my servant.

4 עַד־עוֹלָם אָכִין זַרְעֶךָ וּבָנִיתִי לְדֹר־וָדוֹר כִּסְאֲךָ סֶֽלָה׃

I will establish your descendants forever, and I will establish your throne through all generations.” (Selah)

5 וְיוֹדוּ שָׁמַיִם פִּלְאֲךָ יְהוָה אַף־אֱמֽוּנָתְךָ בִּקְהַל קְדֹשִֽׁים׃

The heavens praise your wonders, Yahweh; your truthfulness is praised in the assembly of the holy ones.

6 כִּי מִי בַשַּׁחַק יַעֲרֹךְ לַיהוָה יִדְמֶה לַיהוָה בִּבְנֵי אֵלִים׃

For who in the skies can be compared to Yahweh? Who among the sons of the gods is like Yahweh?

7 אֵל נַעֲרָץ בְּסוֹד־קְדֹשִׁים רַבָּה וְנוֹרָא עַל־כָּל־סְבִיבָֽיו׃

He is a God who is greatly honored in the council of the holy ones and is awesome among all who surround him.

8 יְהוָה ׀ אֱלֹהֵי צְבָאוֹת מִֽי־כָֽמוֹךָ חֲסִין ׀ יָהּ וֶאֱמֽוּנָתְךָ סְבִיבוֹתֶֽיךָ׃

Yahweh God of hosts, who is strong like you, Yahweh? Your truthfulness surrounds you.

9 אַתָּה מוֹשֵׁל בְּגֵאוּת הַיָּם בְּשׂוֹא גַלָּיו אַתָּה תְשַׁבְּחֵֽם׃

You rule the raging sea; when the waves surge, you calm them.

10 אַתָּה דִכִּאתָ כֶחָלָל רָהַב בִּזְרוֹעַ עֻזְּךָ פִּזַּרְתָּ אוֹיְבֶֽיךָ׃

You crushed Rahab as one who is killed. You scattered your enemies with your strong arm.

11 לְךָ שָׁמַיִם אַף־לְךָ אָרֶץ תֵּבֵל וּמְלֹאָהּ אַתָּה יְסַדְתָּֽם׃

The heavens belong to you, and the earth also. You made the world and all it contains.

12 צָפוֹן וְיָמִין אַתָּה בְרָאתָם תָּבוֹר וְחֶרְמוֹן בְּשִׁמְךָ יְרַנֵּֽנוּ׃

You created the north and the south. Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name.

13 לְךָ זְרוֹעַ עִם־גְּבוּרָה תָּעֹז יָדְךָ תָּרוּם יְמִינֶֽךָ׃

You have a mighty arm and a strong hand, and your right hand is high.

14 צֶדֶק וּמִשְׁפָּט מְכוֹן כִּסְאֶךָ חֶסֶד וֶאֱמֶת יְֽקַדְּמוּ פָנֶֽיךָ׃

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Covenant faithfulness and trustworthiness come before you.

15 אַשְׁרֵי הָעָם יוֹדְעֵי תְרוּעָה יְהוָה בְּֽאוֹר־פָּנֶיךָ יְהַלֵּכֽוּן׃

Blessed are the people who worship you! Yahweh, they walk in the light of your face.

16 בְּשִׁמְךָ יְגִילוּן כָּל־הַיּוֹם וּבְצִדְקָתְךָ יָרֽוּמוּ׃

They rejoice in your name all day long, and in your righteousness they exalt you.

17 כִּֽי־תִפְאֶרֶת עֻזָּמוֹ אָתָּה וּבִרְצֹנְךָ תרים תָּרוּם קַרְנֵֽנוּ׃

You are their majestic strength, and by your favor we are victorious.

18 כִּי לַֽיהוָה מָֽגִנֵּנוּ וְלִקְדוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל מַלְכֵּֽנוּ׃

For our shield belongs to Yahweh; our king belongs to the Holy One of Israel.

19 אָז דִּבַּרְתָּֽ־בְחָזוֹן לַֽחֲסִידֶיךָ וַתֹּאמֶר שִׁוִּיתִי עֵזֶר עַל־גִּבּוֹר הֲרִימוֹתִי בָחוּר מֵעָֽם׃

Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful ones; you said, “I have set a crown on a mighty one.” I have raised up one chosen from among the people.

20 מָצָאתִי דָּוִד עַבְדִּי בְּשֶׁמֶן קָדְשִׁי מְשַׁחְתִּֽיו׃

I have chosen David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him.

21 אֲשֶׁר יָדִי תִּכּוֹן עִמּוֹ אַף־זְרוֹעִי תְאַמְּצֶֽנּוּ׃

My hand will support him; my arm will strengthen him.

22 לֹֽא־יַשִּׁא אוֹיֵב בּוֹ וּבֶן־עַוְלָה לֹא יְעַנֶּֽנּוּ׃

No enemy will deceive him; no son of wickedness will oppress him.

23 וְכַתּוֹתִי מִפָּנָיו צָרָיו וּמְשַׂנְאָיו אֶגּֽוֹף׃

I will crush his enemies before him; I will kill those who hate him.

24 וֶֽאֶֽמוּנָתִי וְחַסְדִּי עִמּוֹ וּבִשְׁמִי תָּרוּם קַרְנֽוֹ׃

My truth and my covenant faithfulness will be with him; by my name he will be victorious.

25 וְשַׂמְתִּי בַיָּם יָדוֹ וּֽבַנְּהָרוֹת יְמִינֽוֹ׃

I will place his hand over the sea and his right hand over the rivers.

26 הוּא יִקְרָאֵנִי אָבִי אָתָּה אֵלִי וְצוּר יְשׁוּעָתִֽי׃

He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.'

27 אַף־אָנִי בְּכוֹר אֶתְּנֵהוּ עֶלְיוֹן לְמַלְכֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃

I also will place him as my firstborn son, the most exalted of the kings of the earth.

28 לְעוֹלָם אשמור־אֶשְׁמָר־לוֹ חַסְדִּי וּבְרִיתִי נֶאֱמֶנֶת לֽוֹ׃

I will extend my covenant faithfulness to him forever; and my covenant with him will be secure.

29 וְשַׂמְתִּי לָעַד זַרְעוֹ וְכִסְאוֹ כִּימֵי שָׁמָֽיִם׃

I will make his descendants endure forever and his throne as enduring as the skies above.

30 אִם־יַֽעַזְבוּ בָנָיו תּוֹרָתִי וּבְמִשְׁפָּטַי לֹא יֵלֵכֽוּן׃

If his children forsake my law and do not walk in my regulations,

31 אִם־חֻקֹּתַי יְחַלֵּלוּ וּמִצְוֺתַי לֹא יִשְׁמֹֽרוּ׃

if they break my rules and do not keep my commands,

32 וּפָקַדְתִּי בְשֵׁבֶט פִּשְׁעָם וּבִנְגָעִים עֲוֺנָֽם׃

then will I punish their rebellion with a rod and their iniquity with blows.

33 וְחַסְדִּי לֹֽא־אָפִיר מֵֽעִמּוֹ וְלֹֽא־אֲשַׁקֵּר בֶּאֱמוּנָתִֽי׃

But I will not remove my steadfast love from him or be unfaithful to my promise.

34 לֹא־אֲחַלֵּל בְּרִיתִי וּמוֹצָא שְׂפָתַי לֹא אֲשַׁנֶּֽה׃

I will not break my covenant or change the words of my lips.

35 אַחַת נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי בְקָדְשִׁי אִֽם־לְדָוִד אֲכַזֵּֽב׃

Once and for all I have sworn by my holiness— I will not lie to David:

36 זַרְעוֹ לְעוֹלָם יִהְיֶה וְכִסְאוֹ כַשֶּׁמֶשׁ נֶגְדִּֽי׃

his descendants will continue forever and his throne as long as the sun before me.

37 כְּיָרֵחַ יִכּוֹן עוֹלָם וְעֵד בַּשַּׁחַק נֶאֱמָן סֶֽלָה׃

It will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky.” (Selah)

38 וְאַתָּה זָנַחְתָּ וַתִּמְאָס הִתְעַבַּרְתָּ עִם־מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃

But you have refused and rejected; you have been angry with your anointed king.

39 נֵאַרְתָּה בְּרִית עַבְדֶּךָ חִלַּלְתָּ לָאָרֶץ נִזְרֽוֹ׃

You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have desecrated his crown on the ground.

40 פָּרַצְתָּ כָל־גְּדֵרֹתָיו שַׂמְתָּ מִבְצָרָיו מְחִתָּה׃

You have broken down all his walls. You have ruined his strongholds.

41 שַׁסֻּהוּ כָּל־עֹבְרֵי דָרֶךְ הָיָה חֶרְפָּה לִשְׁכֵנֽ͏ָיו׃

All who pass by have robbed him. He has become an object of disgust to his neighbors.

42 הֲרִימוֹתָ יְמִין צָרָיו הִשְׂמַחְתָּ כָּל־אוֹיְבָֽיו׃

You have raised the right hand of his enemies; you have made all his enemies rejoice.

43 אַף־תָּשִׁיב צוּר חַרְבּוֹ וְלֹא הֲקֵימֹתוֹ בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

You turn back the edge of his sword and have not made him stand when in battle.

44 הִשְׁבַּתָּ מִטְּהָרוֹ וְכִסְאוֹ לָאָרֶץ מִגַּֽרְתָּה׃

You have brought his splendor to an end; you have brought down his throne to the ground.

45 הִקְצַרְתָּ יְמֵי עֲלוּמָיו הֶֽעֱטִיתָ עָלָיו בּוּשָׁה סֶֽלָה׃

You have shortened the days of his youth. You have covered him with shame. (Selah)

46 עַד־מָה יְהוָה תִּסָּתֵר לָנֶצַח תִּבְעַר כְּמוֹ־אֵשׁ חֲמָתֶֽךָ׃

How long, Yahweh? Will you hide yourself, forever? How long will your anger burn like fire?

47 זְכָר־אֲנִי מֶה־חָלֶד עַל־מַה־שָּׁוְא בָּרָאתָ כָל־בְּנֵי־אָדָֽם׃

Oh, think about how short my time is, and for what uselessness you have created all the children of mankind!

48 מִי גֶבֶר יִֽחְיֶה וְלֹא יִרְאֶה־מָּוֶת יְמַלֵּט נַפְשׁוֹ מִיַּד־שְׁאוֹל סֶֽלָה׃ (Sheol h7585)

Who can live and not die, or rescue his own life from the hand of Sheol? (Selah) (Sheol h7585)

49 אַיֵּה ׀ חֲסָדֶיךָ הָרִאשֹׁנִים ׀ אֲדֹנָי נִשְׁבַּעְתָּ לְדָוִד בֶּאֱמוּנָתֶֽךָ׃

Lord, where are your former acts of covenant faithfulness that you swore to David in your truthfulness?

50 זְכֹר אֲדֹנָי חֶרְפַּת עֲבָדֶיךָ שְׂאֵתִי בְחֵיקִי כָּל־רַבִּים עַמִּֽים׃

Call to mind, Lord, the mocking directed against your servants and how I bear in my heart so many insults from the nations.

51 אֲשֶׁר חֵרְפוּ אוֹיְבֶיךָ ׀ יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר חֵרְפוּ עִקְּבוֹת מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃

Your enemies hurl insults, Yahweh; they mock the footsteps of your anointed one.

52 בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה לְעוֹלָם אָמֵן ׀ וְאָמֵֽן׃

Blessed be Yahweh forever. Amen and Amen.
