אַשְׁרֵ֥י תְמִֽימֵי־דָ֑רֶךְ הַֽ֝הֹלְכִ֗ים בְּתוֹרַ֥ת יְהוָֽה׃ | 1 |
א ('ashreiy, Blessed) Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to Adonai’s Torah ·Teaching·.
אַ֭שְׁרֵי נֹצְרֵ֥י עֵדֹתָ֗יו בְּכָל־לֵ֥ב יִדְרְשֽׁוּהוּ׃ | 2 |
א ('ashreiy, Blessed) Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart.
אַ֭ף לֹֽא־פָעֲל֣וּ עַוְלָ֑ה בִּדְרָכָ֥יו הָלָֽכוּ׃ | 3 |
א ('ap, Also) Yes, they do nothing wrong. They walk in his ways.
אַ֭תָּה צִוִּ֥יתָה פִקֻּדֶ֗יךָ לִשְׁמֹ֥ר מְאֹֽד׃ | 4 |
א ('atah, You) You have enjoined your precepts, that we should fully obey them.
אַ֭חֲלַי יִכֹּ֥נוּ דְרָכָ֗י לִשְׁמֹ֥ר חֻקֶּֽיךָ׃ | 5 |
א ('achalay, Oh that) Oh that my ways were steadfast to obey your statutes!
אָ֥ז לֹא־אֵב֑וֹשׁ בְּ֝הַבִּיטִ֗י אֶל־כָּל־מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ | 6 |
א ('az, Then) Then I would not be disappointed, when I consider all of your mitzvot ·instructions·.
א֭וֹדְךָ בְּיֹ֣שֶׁר לֵבָ֑ב בְּ֝לָמְדִ֗י מִשְׁפְּטֵ֥י צִדְקֶֽךָ׃ | 7 |
א ('odka, Shall give thanks) I will yadah ·extend hands in thankful praise· to you with uprightness of heart, when I learn your righteous judgments.
אֶת־חֻקֶּ֥יךָ אֶשְׁמֹ֑ר אַֽל־תַּעַזְבֵ֥נִי עַד־מְאֹֽד׃ | 8 |
א ('et-chukeycha, את-your statutes) I will observe את your statutes. Don’t utterly forsake me. BET בּ and VET ב
בַּמֶּ֣ה יְזַכֶּה־נַּ֭עַר אֶת־אָרְח֑וֹ לִ֝שְׁמֹ֗ר כִּדְבָרֶֽךָ׃ | 9 |
בּ (Bahmeh, What) How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.
בְּכָל־לִבִּ֥י דְרַשְׁתִּ֑יךָ אַל־תַּ֝שְׁגֵּ֗נִי מִמִּצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ | 10 |
בּ (Bekhal-kibiy, With whole-my heart) With my whole heart, I have sought you. Don’t let me go astray, intoxicated, unintentional sin ·error· from your mitzvot ·instructions·.
בְּ֭לִבִּי צָפַ֣נְתִּי אִמְרָתֶ֑ךָ לְ֝מַ֗עַן לֹ֣א אֶֽחֱטָא־לָֽךְ׃ | 11 |
בּ (Bekhal-kibiy, With whole-my heart) I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin ·err (from the standard goal)· against you.
בָּר֖וּךְ אַתָּ֥ה יְהוָ֗ה לַמְּדֵ֥נִי חֻקֶּֽיךָ׃ | 12 |
בּ (B'libiy, In my heart) Blessed are you, Adonai. Teach me your statutes.
בִּשְׂפָתַ֥י סִפַּ֑רְתִּי כֹּ֝֗ל מִשְׁפְּטֵי־פִֽיךָ׃ | 13 |
בּ (Baruch, Blessed) With my lips, I have declared all the judgments of your mouth.
בְּדֶ֖רֶךְ עֵדְוֹתֶ֥יךָ שַׂ֗שְׂתִּי כְּעַ֣ל כָּל־הֽוֹן׃ | 14 |
בּ (Bees'pati, With my lips) I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies, as much as in all riches.
בְּפִקֻּדֶ֥יךָ אָשִׂ֑יחָה וְ֝אַבִּ֗יטָה אֹרְחֹתֶֽיךָ׃ | 15 |
בּ (Bideirek', In the way) I will meditate on your precepts, and consider your ways.
בְּחֻקֹּתֶ֥יךָ אֶֽשְׁתַּעֲשָׁ֑ע לֹ֭א אֶשְׁכַּ֣ח דְּבָרֶֽךָ׃ | 16 |
בּ (Bipeekudeyka, On your precepts) I will delight myself in your regulations. I will not forget your word. GIMEL גּ
גְּמֹ֖ל עַֽל־עַבְדְּךָ֥ אֶֽחְיֶ֗ה וְאֶשְׁמְרָ֥ה דְבָרֶֽךָ׃ | 17 |
גּ (Gimol, Deal / Do good) Do good to your servant. I will live and I will obey your word.
גַּל־עֵינַ֥י וְאַבִּ֑יטָה נִ֝פְלָא֗וֹת מִתּוֹרָתֶֽךָ׃ | 18 |
גּ (Gal-'eiyni, Open-my eyes) Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things out of your Torah ·Teaching·.
גֵּ֣ר אָנֹכִ֣י בָאָ֑רֶץ אַל־תַּסְתֵּ֥ר מִ֝מֶּ֗נִּי מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ | 19 |
גּ (Geir, Sojourner) I am a stranger on the earth. Don’t hide your mitzvot ·instructions·from me.
גָּרְסָ֣ה נַפְשִׁ֣י לְתַאֲבָ֑ה אֶֽל־מִשְׁפָּטֶ֥יךָ בְכָל־עֵֽת׃ | 20 |
גּ (Gar'sah, Has crushed) My soul is consumed with longing for your judgments at all times.
גָּ֭עַרְתָּ זֵדִ֣ים אֲרוּרִ֑ים הַ֝שֹּׁגִים מִמִּצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ | 21 |
גּ (Ga'ar'ta, Have rebuked) You have rebuked the proud who are cursed, who are lead astray, intoxicated, unintentional sin ·error·from your mitzvot ·instructions·.
גַּ֣ל מֵֽ֭עָלַי חֶרְפָּ֣ה וָב֑וּז כִּ֖י עֵדֹתֶ֣יךָ נָצָֽרְתִּי׃ | 22 |
גּ (Gal, Take) Take reproach and contempt away from me, for I have kept your testimonies.
גַּ֤ם יָֽשְׁב֣וּ שָׂ֭רִים בִּ֣י נִדְבָּ֑רוּ עַ֝בְדְּךָ֗ יָשִׂ֥יחַ בְּחֻקֶּֽיךָ׃ | 23 |
גּ (Gam, Also) Though princes sit and slander me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.
גַּֽם־עֵ֭דֹתֶיךָ שַׁעֲשֻׁעָ֗י אַנְשֵׁ֥י עֲצָתִֽי׃ | 24 |
גּ (Gam-'eidoteyka, Also-your testimonies) Indeed your testimonies are my delight, and my counselors. DALET דּ

דּ (Deib'kah, Cleaves) My soul is laid low in the dust. Revive me according to your word!
דְּרָכַ֣י סִ֭פַּרְתִּי וַֽתַּעֲנֵ֗נִי לַמְּדֵ֥נִי חֻקֶּֽיךָ׃ | 26 |
דּ (Diraki, My ways) I declared my ways, and you answered me. Teach me your statutes.
דֶּֽרֶךְ־פִּקּוּדֶ֥יךָ הֲבִינֵ֑נִי וְ֝אָשִׂ֗יחָה בְּנִפְלְאוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ | 27 |
דּ (Derek'-pekoodeyka, Way-of your precepts) Let me understand the teaching of your precepts! Then I will meditate on your wondrous works.
דָּלְפָ֣ה נַ֭פְשִׁי מִתּוּגָ֑ה קַ֝יְּמֵ֗נִי כִּדְבָרֶֽךָ׃ | 28 |
דּ (Dal'pah, Melts) My soul is weary with sorrow: strengthen me according to your word.
דֶּֽרֶךְ־שֶׁ֭קֶר הָסֵ֣ר מִמֶּ֑נִּי וְֽתוֹרָתְךָ֥ חָנֵּֽנִי׃ | 29 |
דּ (Derek'-sheker, Way-of false) Keep me from the way of deceit. Teach me your Torah ·Teaching· in your favor!
דֶּֽרֶךְ־אֱמוּנָ֥ה בָחָ֑רְתִּי מִשְׁפָּטֶ֥יךָ שִׁוִּֽיתִי׃ | 30 |
דּ (Derek'-'emoonah, Way-of truth) I have chosen the way of truth. I have set your judgments before me.
דָּבַ֥קְתִּי בְעֵֽדְוֹתֶ֑יךָ יְ֝הוָ֗ה אַל־תְּבִישֵֽׁנִי׃ | 31 |
דּ (Dabak'tiy, I cling) I cling to your testimonies, Adonai. Don’t let me be disappointed.
דֶּֽרֶךְ־מִצְוֹתֶ֥יךָ אָר֑וּץ כִּ֖י תַרְחִ֣יב לִבִּֽי׃ | 32 |
דּ (Derek-mitz'vohteyka, Journey-your commands) I run in the path of your mitzvot ·instructions·, for you have set my heart free. HEY ה
הוֹרֵ֣נִי יְ֭הוָה דֶּ֥רֶךְ חֻקֶּ֗יךָ וְאֶצְּרֶ֥נָּה עֵֽקֶב׃ | 33 |
ה (Hovreniy, Teach me) Teach me, Adonai, the way of your statutes. I will keep them to the end.
הֲ֭בִינֵנִי וְאֶצְּרָ֥ה תֽוֹרָתֶ֗ךָ וְאֶשְׁמְרֶ֥נָּה בְכָל־לֵֽב׃ | 34 |
ה (Habiyneniy, Give me understanding) Give me understanding, and I will keep your Torah ·Teaching·. Yes, I will obey it with my whole heart.
הַ֭דְרִיכֵנִי בִּנְתִ֣יב מִצְוֹתֶ֑יךָ כִּי־ב֥וֹ חָפָֽצְתִּי׃ | 35 |
ה (Had'riykeiniy, Make me to go) Direct me in the path of your mitzvot ·instructions·, for I delight in them.
הַט־לִ֭בִּי אֶל־עֵדְוֹתֶ֗יךָ וְאַ֣ל אֶל־בָּֽצַע׃ | 36 |
ה (Hat-libiy, Incline-my heart) Turn my heart toward your testimonies, not toward selfish gain.
הַעֲבֵ֣ר עֵ֭ינַי מֵרְא֣וֹת שָׁ֑וְא בִּדְרָכֶ֥ךָ חַיֵּֽנִי׃ | 37 |
ה (Ha'a'beir, Turn away) Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways.
הָקֵ֣ם לְ֭עַבְדְּךָ אִמְרָתֶ֑ךָ אֲ֝שֶׁ֗ר לְיִרְאָתֶֽךָ׃ | 38 |
ה (Hakeim, Establish) Fulfill your promise to your servant, that you may be feared.
הַעֲבֵ֣ר חֶ֭רְפָּתִי אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָגֹ֑רְתִּי כִּ֖י מִשְׁפָּטֶ֣יךָ טוֹבִֽים׃ | 39 |
ה (Ha'a'beir, Turn away) Take away my disgrace that I dread, for your judgments are good.
הִ֭נֵּה תָּאַ֣בְתִּי לְפִקֻּדֶ֑יךָ בְּצִדְקָתְךָ֥ חַיֵּֽנִי׃ | 40 |
ה (Hineih, Behold) Behold, I long for your precepts! Revive me in your righteousness. VAV ו
וִֽיבֹאֻ֣נִי חֲסָדֶ֣ךָ יְהוָ֑ה תְּ֝שֽׁוּעָתְךָ֗ כְּאִמְרָתֶֽךָ׃ | 41 |
ו (Viybo'ooniy, Come to me) Let your chesed ·loving-kindness· also come to me, Adonai, your salvation, according to your word.
וְאֶֽעֱנֶ֣ה חֹרְפִ֣י דָבָ֑ר כִּֽי־בָ֝טַחְתִּי בִּדְבָרֶֽךָ׃ | 42 |
ו (Vi’e’eneh, And answer) So I will have an answer for him who reproaches me, for I trust in your word.
וְֽאַל־תַּצֵּ֬ל מִפִּ֣י דְבַר־אֱמֶ֣ת עַד־מְאֹ֑ד כִּ֖י לְמִשְׁפָּטֶ֣ךָ יִחָֽלְתִּי׃ | 43 |
ו (Vi'al-tatzeil, And do not take) Don’t snatch the word of truth out of my mouth, for I put my hope in your judgments.
וְאֶשְׁמְרָ֖ה תוֹרָתְךָ֥ תָמִ֗יד לְעוֹלָ֥ם וָעֶֽד׃ | 44 |
ו (Vi'esh’m’rah, And I will keep) So I will obey your Torah ·Teaching· continually, forever and ever.
וְאֶתְהַלְּכָ֥ה בָרְחָבָ֑ה כִּ֖י פִקֻּדֶ֣יךָ דָרָֽשְׁתִּי׃ | 45 |
ו (Vi'et’hal’kah, And I will walk) I will walk in liberty, for I have sought your precepts.
וַאֲדַבְּרָ֣ה בְ֭עֵדֹתֶיךָ נֶ֥גֶד מְלָכִ֗ים וְלֹ֣א אֵבֽוֹשׁ׃ | 46 |
ו (Va'a’dab’rah, And I will speak) I will also speak of your testimonies before kings, and will not be disappointed.
וְאֶשְׁתַּֽעֲשַׁ֥ע בְּמִצְוֹתֶ֗יךָ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָהָֽבְתִּי׃ | 47 |
ו (Vi'esh’ta’asha’, And I will delight myself) I will delight myself in your mitzvot ·instructions·, because I 'ahav ·affectionately love· them.
וְאֶשָּֽׂא־כַפַּ֗י אֶֽל־מִ֭צְוֹתֶיךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָהָ֗בְתִּי וְאָשִׂ֥יחָה בְחֻקֶּֽיךָ׃ | 48 |
ו (Vi’esa’-khapi, And I will lift up-my hands) I reach out my hands for your mitzvot ·instructions·, which I 'ahav ·affectionately love·. I will meditate on your statutes. ZAYIN ז
זְכֹר־דָּבָ֥ר לְעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ עַ֝֗ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִֽחַלְתָּֽנִי׃ | 49 |
ז (Zikhor-dabar, Remember-word) Remember your word to your servant, because you gave me hope.
זֹ֣את נֶחָמָתִ֣י בְעָנְיִ֑י כִּ֖י אִמְרָתְךָ֣ חִיָּֽתְנִי׃ | 50 |
ז(Zo’t, This) This is my comfort in my affliction, for your word has revived me.
זֵ֭דִים הֱלִיצֻ֣נִי עַד־מְאֹ֑ד מִ֝תּֽוֹרָתְךָ֗ לֹ֣א נָטִֽיתִי׃ | 51 |
ז (Zeideem, Arrogant) The arrogant mock me excessively, but I don’t swerve from your Torah ·Teaching·.
זָ֘כַ֤רְתִּי מִשְׁפָּטֶ֖יךָ מֵעוֹלָ֥ם ׀ יְהוָ֗ה וָֽאֶתְנֶחָֽם׃ | 52 |
ז (Zakhar’tiy, I remembered) I remember your judgments of old, Adonai, and have comforted myself.
זַלְעָפָ֣ה אֲ֭חָזַתְנִי מֵרְשָׁעִ֑ים עֹ֝זְבֵ֗י תּוֹרָתֶֽךָ׃ | 53 |
ז (Zal’’apah, Burning indignation) Indignation has taken hold on me, because of the wicked who forsake your Torah ·Teaching·.

ז (Zimerovt, My songs) Your statutes have been my songs, in the house where I live.

ח (Chishab’tiy, I considered) I considered my ways, and turned my steps to your testimonies.

ח (Chash’tiy, I hastened) I will hurry, and not delay, to obey your mitzvot ·instructions·.
חֶבְלֵ֣י רְשָׁעִ֣ים עִוְּדֻ֑נִי תּֽ֝וֹרָתְךָ֗ לֹ֣א שָׁכָֽחְתִּי׃ | 61 |
ח (Cheb’ley, Cords / Ropes) The ropes of the wicked bind me, but I won’t forget your Torah ·Teaching·.
חֲצֽוֹת־לַ֗יְלָה אָ֭קוּם לְהוֹד֣וֹת לָ֑ךְ עַ֝֗ל מִשְׁפְּטֵ֥י צִדְקֶֽךָ׃ | 62 |
ח (Cha’tzot-li’lah, At mid-night) At midnight I will rise to yadah ·extend hands in thankful praise· to you, because of your righteous judgments.

ח (Chaber, Companion) I am a friend of all those who fear you, of those who observe your precepts.

ט (Tov-’atah, Good-you are) You are good, and do good. Teach me your statutes.
טָפְל֬וּ עָלַ֣י שֶׁ֣קֶר זֵדִ֑ים אֲ֝נִ֗י בְּכָל־לֵ֤ב ׀ אֱצֹּ֬ר פִּקּוּדֶֽיךָ׃ | 69 |
ט (Tap’lu, Have forged) The proud have smeared a lie upon me. With my whole heart, I will keep your precepts.
טָפַ֣שׁ כַּחֵ֣לֶב לִבָּ֑ם אֲ֝נִ֗י תּוֹרָתְךָ֥ שִֽׁעֲשָֽׁעְתִּי׃ | 70 |
ט (Tapash, Is covered) Their heart is as callous as the fat, but I delight in your Torah ·Teaching·.

י (Y’rei'eyka, They fear) Those who fear you will see me and be glad, because I have put my hope in your word.
יָדַ֣עְתִּי יְ֭הוָה כִּי־צֶ֣דֶק מִשְׁפָּטֶ֑יךָ וֶ֝אֱמוּנָ֗ה עִנִּיתָֽנִי׃ | 75 |
י (Yada’’tiy, I know) Adonai, I know that your judgments are righteous, that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
יְהִי־נָ֣א חַסְדְּךָ֣ לְנַחֲמֵ֑נִי כְּאִמְרָתְךָ֥ לְעַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ | 76 |
י (Y’heey-na’, Let be-now please) Please let your chesed ·loving-kindness· be for my comfort, according to your word to your servant.
יְבֹא֣וּנִי רַחֲמֶ֣יךָ וְאֶֽחְיֶ֑ה כִּי־תֽ֝וֹרָתְךָ֗ שַֽׁעֲשֻׁעָֽי׃ | 77 |
י (Y’bo'ooniy, Come to me) Let your tender rachamim ·merciful loves· come to me, that I may live; for your Torah ·Teaching· is my delight.
יֵבֹ֣שׁוּ זֵ֭דִים כִּי־שֶׁ֣קֶר עִוְּת֑וּנִי אֲ֝נִ֗י אָשִׂ֥יחַ בְּפִקּוּדֶֽיךָ׃ | 78 |
י (Yeiboshoo, Be ashamed) Let the proud be disappointed, for they have overthrown me wrongfully. I will meditate on your precepts.
יָשׁ֣וּבוּ לִ֣י יְרֵאֶ֑יךָ וְ֝יֹדְעֵ֗י עֵדֹתֶֽיךָ׃ | 79 |
י (Yashooboo, They will turn) Let those who fear you turn to me. They will know your testimonies.

כּ (Kalu, Strain) My eyes fail for your word. I say, “When will you comfort me?”

כּ (Kiy-Hayiytiy, For I have become) For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke. I don’t forget your statutes.
כַּמָּ֥ה יְמֵֽי־עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ מָתַ֬י תַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה בְרֹדְפַ֣י מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ | 84 |
כּ (Kamah, How many) How many are the days of your servant? When will you execute judgement on those who persecute me?

כּ (Karu-loy, Have dug for me) The proud have dug pits for me, contrary to your Torah ·Teaching·.
כָּל־מִצְוֹתֶ֥יךָ אֱמוּנָ֑ה שֶׁ֖קֶר רְדָפ֣וּנִי עָזְרֵֽנִי׃ | 86 |
כּ (Kal-mitz’voteyka, All your commands) All of your mitzvot ·instructions· are faithful. They persecute me wrongfully. Help me!
כִּ֭מְעַט כִּלּ֣וּנִי בָאָ֑רֶץ וַ֝אֲנִ֗י לֹא־עָזַ֥בְתִּי פִקֻּודֶֽיךָ׃ | 87 |
כּ (Kim’’at, Almost) They had almost wiped me from the earth, but I didn’t forsake your precepts.
כְּחַסְדְּךָ֥ חַיֵּ֑נִי וְ֝אֶשְׁמְרָ֗ה עֵד֥וּת פִּֽיךָ׃ | 88 |

ס (Sam’kheiniy, Sustain) Uphold me according to your word, that I may live. Let me not be ashamed of my hope.
סְעָדֵ֥נִי וְאִוָּשֵׁ֑עָה וְאֶשְׁעָ֖ה בְחֻקֶּ֣יךָ תָמִֽיד׃ | 117 |
ס (S’’adiniy, Uphold) Hold me up, and I will be safe, and will have respect for your statutes continually.
סָ֭לִיתָ כָּל־שׁוֹגִ֣ים מֵחֻקֶּ֑יךָ כִּי־שֶׁ֝֗קֶר תַּרְמִיתָֽם׃ | 118 |
ס (Saliyta, Rejected) You reject all those who are lead astray, intoxicated, unintentional sin ·error· from your statutes, for their deceit is in vain.
סִגִ֗ים הִשְׁבַּ֥תָּ כָל־רִשְׁעֵי־אָ֑רֶץ לָ֝כֵ֗ן אָהַ֥בְתִּי עֵדֹתֶֽיךָ׃ | 119 |
ס (Sigiym, Dross) You put away all the wicked of the earth like dross. Therefore I 'ahav ·affectionately love· your testimonies.

שׂ (Sarim, Princes) Princes have persecuted me without a cause, but my heart stands in awe of your words.
שָׂ֣שׂ אָ֭נֹכִֽי עַל־אִמְרָתֶ֑ךָ כְּ֝מוֹצֵ֗א שָׁלָ֥ל רָֽב׃ | 162 |
שׂ (Sas, Rejoice) I rejoice at your word, as one who finds great plunder.
שֶׁ֣קֶר שָׂ֭נֵאתִי וַאֲתַעֵ֑בָה תּוֹרָתְךָ֥ אָהָֽבְתִּי׃ | 163 |
שׁ (Sheker, Falsehood / Deceiving) I hate and abhor falsehood. I 'ahav ·affectionately love· your Torah ·Teaching·.
שֶׁ֣בַע בַּ֭יּוֹם הִלַּלְתִּ֑יךָ עַ֝֗ל מִשְׁפְּטֵ֥י צִדְקֶֽךָ׃ | 164 |
שׁ (Sheva’, Seven) Seven times a day, I praise you, because of your righteous judgments.
שָׁל֣וֹם רָ֭ב לְאֹהֲבֵ֣י תוֹרָתֶ֑ךָ וְאֵֽין־לָ֥מוֹ מִכְשֽׁוֹל׃ | 165 |
שׁ (Shalom, Peace / Wholeness) Those who 'ahav ·affectionately love· your Torah ·Teaching· have great peace. Nothing causes them to stumble.
שִׂבַּ֣רְתִּי לִֽישׁוּעָתְךָ֣ יְהוָ֑ה וּֽמִצְוֹתֶ֥יךָ עָשִֽׂיתִי׃ | 166 |
