| אָ דָם שֵׁת אֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ | 1 |
[The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.
| קֵינָן מַהֲלַלְאֵל יָֽרֶד׃ | 2 |
[Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.
| חֲנוֹךְ מְתוּשֶׁלַח לָֽמֶךְ׃ | 3 |
[Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.
| נֹחַ שֵׁם חָם וָיָֽפֶת׃ | 4 |
[Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
| בְּנֵי יֶפֶת גֹּמֶר וּמָגוֹג וּמָדַי וְיָוָן וְתֻבָל וּמֶשֶׁךְ וְתִירָֽס׃ | 5 |
The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
| וּבְנֵי גֹּמֶר אַשְׁכְּנַז וְדִיפַת וְתוֹגַרְמָֽה׃ | 6 |
The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
| וּבְנֵי יָוָן אֱלִישָׁה וְתַרְשִׁישָׁה כִּתִּים וְרוֹדָנִֽים׃ | 7 |
The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
| בְּנֵי חָם כּוּשׁ וּמִצְרַיִם פּוּט וּכְנָֽעַן׃ | 8 |
The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.
| וּבְנֵי כוּשׁ סְבָא וַֽחֲוִילָה וְסַבְתָּא וְרַעְמָא וְסַבְתְּכָא וּבְנֵי רַעְמָא שְׁבָא וּדְדָֽן׃ | 9 |
The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
| וְכוּשׁ יָלַד אֶת־נִמְרוֹד הוּא הֵחֵל לִֽהְיוֹת גִּבּוֹר בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ | 10 |
Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.
| וּמִצְרַיִם יָלַד אֶת־[לוּדִים] (לודיים) וְאֶת־עֲנָמִים וְאֶת־לְהָבִים וְאֶת־נַפְתֻּחִֽים׃ | 11 |
Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,
| וְֽאֶת־פַּתְרֻסִים וְאֶת־כַּסְלֻחִים אֲשֶׁר יָצְאוּ מִשָּׁם פְּלִשְׁתִּים וְאֶת־כַּפְתֹּרִֽים׃ | 12 |
the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.
| וּכְנַעַן יָלַד אֶת־צִידוֹן בְּכֹרוֹ וְאֶת־חֵֽת׃ | 13 |
Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,
| וְאֶת־הַיְבוּסִי וְאֶת־הָאֱמֹרִי וְאֵת הַגִּרְגָּשִֽׁי׃ | 14 |
the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,
| וְאֶת־הַחִוִּי וְאֶת־הַעַרְקִי וְאֶת־הַסִּינִֽי׃ | 15 |
the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,
| וְאֶת־הָאַרְוָדִי וְאֶת־הַצְּמָרִי וְאֶת־הַחֲמָתִֽי׃ | 16 |
the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.
| בְּנֵי שֵׁם עֵילָם וְאַשּׁוּר וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁד וְלוּד וַאֲרָם וְעוּץ וְחוּל וְגֶתֶר וָמֶֽשֶׁךְ׃ | 17 |
The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.
| וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁד יָלַד אֶת־שָׁלַח וְשֶׁלַח יָלַד אֶת־עֵֽבֶר׃ | 18 |
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.
| וּלְעֵבֶר יֻלַּד שְׁנֵי בָנִים שֵׁם הָאֶחָד פֶּלֶג כִּי בְיָמָיו נִפְלְגָה הָאָרֶץ וְשֵׁם אָחִיו יׇקְטָֽן׃ | 19 |
Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.
| וְיׇקְטָן יָלַד אֶת־אַלְמוֹדָד וְאֶת־שָׁלֶף וְאֶת־חֲצַרְמָוֶת וְאֶת־יָֽרַח׃ | 20 |
Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
| וְאֶת־הֲדוֹרָם וְאֶת־אוּזָל וְאֶת־דִּקְלָֽה׃ | 21 |
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
| וְאֶת־עֵיבָל וְאֶת־אֲבִֽימָאֵל וְאֶת־שְׁבָֽא׃ | 22 |
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
| וְאֶת־אוֹפִיר וְאֶת־חֲוִילָה וְאֶת־יוֹבָב כׇּל־אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי יׇקְטָֽן׃ | 23 |
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
| שֵׁם ׀ אַרְפַּכְשַׁד שָֽׁלַח׃ | 24 |
The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,
| עֵבֶר פֶּלֶג רְעֽוּ׃ | 25 |
Eber, Peleg, Reu,
| שְׂרוּג נָחוֹר תָּֽרַח׃ | 26 |
Serug, Nahor, Terah,
| אַבְרָם הוּא אַבְרָהָֽם׃ | 27 |
and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.
| בְּנֵי אַבְרָהָם יִצְחָק וְיִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃ | 28 |
Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.
| אֵלֶּה תֹּלְדוֹתָם בְּכוֹר יִשְׁמָעֵאל נְבָיוֹת וְקֵדָר וְאַדְבְּאֵל וּמִבְשָֽׂם׃ | 29 |
[The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
| מִשְׁמָע וְדוּמָה מַשָּׂא חֲדַד וְתֵימָֽא׃ | 30 |
Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,
| יְטוּר נָפִישׁ וָקֵדְמָה אֵלֶּה הֵם בְּנֵי יִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃ | 31 |
Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
| וּבְנֵי קְטוּרָה פִּילֶגֶשׁ אַבְרָהָם יָלְדָה אֶת־זִמְרָן וְיׇקְשָׁן וּמְדָן וּמִדְיָן וְיִשְׁבָּק וְשׁוּחַ וּבְנֵי יׇקְשָׁן שְׁבָא וּדְדָֽן׃ | 32 |
[After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
| וּבְנֵי מִדְיָן עֵיפָה וָעֵפֶר וַחֲנוֹךְ וַאֲבִידָע וְאֶלְדָּעָה כׇּל־אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי קְטוּרָֽה׃ | 33 |
Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
| וַיּוֹלֶד אַבְרָהָם אֶת־יִצְחָק בְּנֵי יִצְחָק עֵשָׂו וְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ | 34 |
The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.
| בְּנֵי עֵשָׂו אֱלִיפַז רְעוּאֵל וִיעוּשׁ וְיַעְלָם וְקֹֽרַח׃ | 35 |
The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
| בְּנֵי אֱלִיפָז תֵּימָן וְאוֹמָר צְפִי וְגַעְתָּם קְנַז וְתִמְנָע וַעֲמָלֵֽק׃ | 36 |
The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
| בְּנֵי רְעוּאֵל נַחַת זֶרַח שַׁמָּה וּמִזָּֽה׃ | 37 |
Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
| וּבְנֵי שֵׂעִיר לוֹטָן וְשׁוֹבָל וְצִבְעוֹן וַעֲנָה וְדִישֹׁן וְאֵצֶר וְדִישָֽׁן׃ | 38 |
[Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
| וּבְנֵי לוֹטָן חֹרִי וְהוֹמָם וַאֲחוֹת לוֹטָן תִּמְנָֽע׃ | 39 |
Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
| בְּנֵי שׁוֹבָל עַלְיָן וּמָנַחַת וְעֵיבָל שְׁפִי וְאוֹנָם וּבְנֵי צִבְעוֹן אַיָּה וַעֲנָֽה׃ | 40 |
Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
| בְּנֵי עֲנָה דִּישׁוֹן וּבְנֵי דִישׁוֹן חַמְרָן וְאֶשְׁבָּן וְיִתְרָן וּכְרָֽן׃ | 41 |
Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
| בְּֽנֵי־אֵצֶר בִּלְהָן וְזַעֲוָן יַעֲקָן בְּנֵי דִישׁוֹן עוּץ וַאֲרָֽן׃ | 42 |
Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
| וְאֵלֶּה הַמְּלָכִים אֲשֶׁר מָֽלְכוּ בְּאֶרֶץ אֱדוֹם לִפְנֵי מְלׇךְ־מֶלֶךְ לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בֶּלַע בֶּן־בְּעוֹר וְשֵׁם עִירוֹ דִּנְהָֽבָה׃ | 43 |
[These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.
| וַיָּמׇת בָּלַע וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו יוֹבָב בֶּן־זֶרַח מִבׇּצְרָֽה׃ | 44 |
When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.
| וַיָּמׇת יוֹבָב וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו חוּשָׁם מֵאֶרֶץ הַתֵּימָנִֽי׃ | 45 |
When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
| וַיָּמׇת חוּשָׁם וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו הֲדַד בֶּן־בְּדַד הַמַּכֶּה אֶת־מִדְיָן בִּשְׂדֵה מוֹאָב וְשֵׁם עִירוֹ (עיות) [עֲוִֽית]׃ | 46 |
When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].
| וַיָּמׇת הֲדָד וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו שַׂמְלָה מִמַּשְׂרֵקָֽה׃ | 47 |
When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
| וַיָּמׇת שַׂמְלָה וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו שָׁאוּל מֵרְחֹבוֹת הַנָּהָֽר׃ | 48 |
When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.
| וַיָּמׇת שָׁאוּל וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו בַּעַל חָנָן בֶּן־עַכְבּֽוֹר׃ | 49 |
When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.
| וַיָּמׇת בַּעַל חָנָן וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו הֲדַד וְשֵׁם עִירוֹ פָּעִי וְשֵׁם אִשְׁתּוֹ מְהֵֽיטַבְאֵל בַּת־מַטְרֵד בַּת מֵי זָהָֽב׃ | 50 |
When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
| וַיָּמׇת הֲדָד וַיִּֽהְיוּ אַלּוּפֵי אֱדוֹם אַלּוּף תִּמְנָע אַלּוּף (עליה) [עַֽלְוָה] אַלּוּף יְתֵֽת׃ | 51 |
Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
| אַלּוּף אׇהֳלִיבָמָה אַלּוּף אֵלָה אַלּוּף פִּינֹֽן׃ | 52 |
Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
| אַלּוּף קְנַז אַלּוּף תֵּימָן אַלּוּף מִבְצָֽר׃ | 53 |
Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
| אַלּוּף מַגְדִּיאֵל אַלּוּף עִירָם אֵלֶּה אַלּוּפֵי אֱדֽוֹם׃ | 54 |
Magdiel, and Iram.
