1 וידבר יהוה אל משה ואל אהרן לאמר

Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron:

2 איש על דגלו באתת לבית אבתם יחנו בני ישראל מנגד סביב לאהל מועד יחנו

“The Israelites are to camp around the Tent of Meeting at a distance from it, each man under his standard, with the banners of his family.

3 והחנים קדמה מזרחה דגל מחנה יהודה לצבאתם ונשיא לבני יהודה נחשון בן עמינדב

On the east side, toward the sunrise, the divisions of Judah are to camp under their standard: The leader of the descendants of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab,

4 וצבאו ופקדיהם--ארבעה ושבעים אלף ושש מאות

and his division numbers 74,600.

5 והחנים עליו מטה יששכר ונשיא לבני יששכר נתנאל בן צוער

The tribe of Issachar will camp next to it. The leader of the Issacharites is Nethanel son of Zuar,

6 וצבאו ופקדיו--ארבעה וחמשים אלף וארבע מאות

and his division numbers 54,400.

7 מטה זבולן ונשיא לבני זבולן אליאב בן חלן

Next will be the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the Zebulunites is Eliab son of Helon,

8 וצבאו ופקדיו--שבעה וחמשים אלף וארבע מאות

and his division numbers 57,400.

9 כל הפקדים למחנה יהודה מאת אלף ושמנים אלף וששת אלפים וארבע מאות--לצבאתם ראשנה יסעו

The total number of men in the divisions of the camp of Judah is 186,400; they shall set out first.

10 דגל מחנה ראובן תימנה לצבאתם ונשיא לבני ראובן אליצור בן שדיאור

On the south side, the divisions of Reuben are to camp under their standard: The leader of the Reubenites is Elizur son of Shedeur,

11 וצבאו ופקדיו--ששה וארבעים אלף וחמש מאות

and his division numbers 46,500.

12 והחונם עליו מטה שמעון ונשיא לבני שמעון שלמיאל בן צורישדי

The tribe of Simeon will camp next to it. The leader of the Simeonites is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai,

13 וצבאו ופקדיהם--תשעה וחמשים אלף ושלש מאות

and his division numbers 59,300.

14 ומטה גד ונשיא לבני גד אליסף בן רעואל

Next will be the tribe of Gad. The leader of the Gadites is Eliasaph son of Deuel,

15 וצבאו ופקדיהם--חמשה וארבעים אלף ושש מאות וחמשים

and his division numbers 45,650.

16 כל הפקדים למחנה ראובן מאת אלף ואחד וחמשים אלף וארבע מאות וחמשים--לצבאתם ושנים יסעו

The total number of men in the divisions of the camp of Reuben is 151,450; they shall set out second.

17 ונסע אהל מועד מחנה הלוים בתוך המחנת כאשר יחנו כן יסעו איש על ידו לדגליהם

In the middle of the camps, the Tent of Meeting is to travel with the camp of the Levites. They are to set out in the order they encamped, each in his own place under his standard.

18 דגל מחנה אפרים לצבאתם ימה ונשיא לבני אפרים אלישמע בן עמיהוד

On the west side, the divisions of Ephraim are to camp under their standard: The leader of the Ephraimites is Elishama son of Ammihud,

19 וצבאו ופקדיהם--ארבעים אלף וחמש מאות

and his division numbers 40,500.

20 ועליו מטה מנשה ונשיא לבני מנשה גמליאל בן פדהצור

The tribe of Manasseh will be next to it. The leader of the Manassites is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur,

21 וצבאו ופקדיהם--שנים ושלשים אלף ומאתים

and his division numbers 32,200.

22 ומטה בנימן ונשיא לבני בנימן אבידן בן גדעני

Next will be the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of the Benjamites is Abidan son of Gideoni,

23 וצבאו ופקדיהם--חמשה ושלשים אלף וארבע מאות

and his division numbers 35,400.

24 כל הפקדים למחנה אפרים מאת אלף ושמנת אלפים ומאה--לצבאתם ושלשים יסעו

The total number of men in the divisions of the camp of Ephraim is 108,100; they shall set out third.

25 דגל מחנה דן צפנה לצבאתם ונשיא לבני דן אחיעזר בן עמישדי

On the north side, the divisions of Dan are to camp under their standard: The leader of the Danites is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai,

26 וצבאו ופקדיהם--שנים וששים אלף ושבע מאות

and his division numbers 62,700.

27 והחנים עליו מטה אשר ונשיא לבני אשר פגעיאל בן עכרן

The tribe of Asher will camp next to it. The leader of the Asherites is Pagiel son of Ocran,

28 וצבאו ופקדיהם--אחד וארבעים אלף וחמש מאות

and his division numbers 41,500.

29 ומטה נפתלי ונשיא לבני נפתלי אחירע בן עינן

Next will be the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the Naphtalites is Ahira son of Enan,

30 וצבאו ופקדיהם--שלשה וחמשים אלף וארבע מאות

and his division numbers 53,400.

31 כל הפקדים למחנה דן--מאת אלף ושבעה וחמשים אלף ושש מאות לאחרנה יסעו לדגליהם

The total number of men in the camp of Dan is 157,600; they shall set out last, under their standards.”

32 אלה פקודי בני ישראל לבית אבתם כל פקודי המחנת לצבאתם--שש מאות אלף ושלשת אלפים וחמש מאות וחמשים

These are the Israelites, numbered according to their families. The total of those counted in the camps, by their divisions, was 603,550.

33 והלוים--לא התפקדו בתוך בני ישראל כאשר צוה יהוה את משה

But the Levites were not counted among the other Israelites, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

34 ויעשו בני ישראל ככל אשר צוה יהוה את משה כן חנו לדגליהם וכן נסעו--איש למשפחתיו על בית אבתיו

So the Israelites did everything the LORD commanded Moses; they camped under their standards in this way and set out in the same way, each man with his clan and his family.
