ויקרא 24

1 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר

Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,

2 צו את בני ישראל ויקחו אליך שמן זית זך כתית--למאור להעלת נר תמיד

“Enjoin the children of Israel [God prevails], that they bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a menorah ·lamp· to burn continually.

3 מחוץ לפרכת העדת באהל מועד יערך אתו אהרן מערב עד בקר לפני יהוה--תמיד חקת עולם לדרתיכם

Outside of the veil of the Testimony, in the Tent of Meeting, shall Aaron [Light-bringer] keep it in order from evening to morning before Adonai continually: it shall be a statute forever throughout all your generations.

4 על המנרה הטהרה יערך את הנרות לפני יהוה תמיד

He shall keep in order the menorah ·lamp· candles on the pure gold menorah ·lamp· before Adonai continually.

5 ולקחת סלת--ואפית אתה שתים עשרה חלות שני עשרנים יהיה החלה האחת

“You shall take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes of it: one tenth of an ephah [two omers; 4.6 q; 4.4 L] shall be in one cake.

6 ושמת אותם שתים מערכות שש המערכת על השלחן הטהר לפני יהוה

You shall set them in two rows, six on a row, on the pure gold table before Adonai.

7 ונתת על המערכת לבנה זכה והיתה ללחם לאזכרה אשה ליהוה

You shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be to the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire to Adonai.

8 ביום השבת ביום השבת יערכנו לפני יהוה--תמיד מאת בני ישראל ברית עולם

Every Shabath ·Intermission· day he shall set it in order before Adonai continually. It is on the behalf of the children of Israel [God prevails] an everlasting covenant.

9 והיתה לאהרן ולבניו ואכלהו במקום קדש כי קדש קדשים הוא לו מאשי יהוה--חק עולם

It shall be for Aaron [Light-bringer] and his sons; and they shall eat it in a holy place: for it is most holy to him of the offerings of Adonai made by fire by a perpetual statute.”

10 ויצא בן אשה ישראלית והוא בן איש מצרי בתוך בני ישראל וינצו במחנה בן הישראלית ואיש הישראלי

The son of an Israelite [Descendant of God prevails] woman, whose father was an Egyptian [person from Abode of slavery], went out among the children of Israel [God prevails]; and the son of the Israelite [Descendant of God prevails] woman and a man of Israel [God prevails] strove together in the camp.

11 ויקב בן האשה הישראלית את השם ויקלל ויביאו אתו אל משה ושם אמו שלמית בת דברי למטה דן

The son of the Israelite [Descendant of God prevails] woman blasphemed HaShem [The Name], and cursed; and they brought him to Moses [Drawn out]. His mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan [He judged].

12 ויניחהו במשמר לפרש להם על פי יהוה

They put him in custody, until Adonai’s will should be declared to them.

13 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר

Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,

14 הוצא את המקלל אל מחוץ למחנה וסמכו כל השמעים את ידיהם על ראשו ורגמו אתו כל העדה

“Bring out of the camp him who cursed; and let all who sh'ma ·heard obeyed· him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

15 ואל בני ישראל תדבר לאמר איש איש כי יקלל אלהיו ונשא חטאו

You shall speak to the children of Israel [God prevails], saying, ‘Whoever curses his God shall bear his crime deserving penalty, sin ·missing the goal·.

16 ונקב שם יהוה מות יומת רגום ירגמו בו כל העדה כגר כאזרח--בנקבו שם יומת

He who blasphemes Adonai’s name, he shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall certainly stone him. The foreigner as well as the native-born, when he blasphemes HaShem [The Name], shall be put to death.

17 ואיש כי יכה כל נפש אדם--מות יומת

“‘He who strikes any man mortally shall surely be put to death.

18 ומכה נפש בהמה ישלמנה--נפש תחת נפש

He who strikes an animal mortally shall make it good, life for life.

19 ואיש כי יתן מום בעמיתו--כאשר עשה כן יעשה לו

If anyone injures his neighbor; as he has done, so shall it be done to him:

20 שבר תחת שבר עין תחת עין שן תחת שן--כאשר יתן מום באדם כן ינתן בו

fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has injured someone, so shall it be done to him.

21 ומכה בהמה ישלמנה ומכה אדם יומת

He who kills an animal shall make it good; and he who kills a man shall be put to death.

22 משפט אחד יהיה לכם כגר כאזרח יהיה כי אני יהוה אלהיכם

You shall have one kind of judgment for the foreigner as well as the native-born; for I am Adonai your God.’”

23 וידבר משה אל בני ישראל ויוציאו את המקלל אל מחוץ למחנה וירגמו אתו אבן ובני ישראל עשו כאשר צוה יהוה את משה

Moses [Drawn out] spoke to the children of Israel [God prevails]; and they brought out him who had cursed out of the camp, and stoned him with stones. The children of Israel [God prevails] did as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
