שמואל ב 8

1 ויהי אחרי כן ויך דוד את פלשתים ויכניעם ויקח דוד את מתג האמה מיד פלשתים

And it came to pass, after this, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, —and David took the bridle of the metropolis, out of the hand of the Philistines.

2 ויך את מואב וימדדם בחבל השכב אותם ארצה וימדד שני חבלים להמית ומלא החבל להחיות ותהי מואב לדוד לעבדים נשאי מנחה

And he smote Moab, and measured them with the line casting, them down to the ground, and be measured with two lines to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive, —so the Moabites became David’s, as servants, bringing gifts.

3 ויך דוד את הדדעזר בן רחב מלך צובה בלכתו להשיב ידו בנהר (פרת)

And David smote Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, —when he went to lay his hand on the River Euphrates.

4 וילכד דוד ממנו אלף ושבע מאות פרשים ועשרים אלף איש רגלי ויעקר דוד את כל הרכב ויותר ממנו מאה רכב

And David captured from him, a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen, —and David destroyed all the chariots, but reserved of them, a hundred chariots.

5 ותבא ארם דמשק לעזר להדדעזר מלך צובה ויך דוד בארם עשרים ושנים אלף איש

And, when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, king of Zobah, David smote of the Syrians, twenty-two thousand men.

6 וישם דוד נצבים בארם דמשק ותהי ארם לדוד לעבדים נושאי מנחה וישע יהוה את דוד בכל אשר הלך

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus, and the Syrians became David’s, as servants bringing gifts, —and so Yahweh gave victory unto David, whithersoever he went.

7 ויקח דוד את שלטי הזהב אשר היו אל עבדי הדדעזר ויביאם ירושלם

And David took the shields of gold which had come to the servants of Hadadezer, —and brought them to Jerusalem;

8 ומבטח ומברתי ערי הדדעזר לקח המלך דוד נחשת--הרבה מאד

also, from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, did King David take bronze, exceeding much.

9 וישמע תעי מלך חמת כי הכה דוד את כל חיל הדדעזר

And, when Tou king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the forces of Hadadezer,

10 וישלח תעי את יורם בנו אל המלך דוד לשאל לו לשלום ולברכו על אשר נלחם בהדדעזר ויכהו--כי איש מלחמות תעי היה הדדעזר ובידו היו כלי כסף וכלי זהב--וכלי נחשת

then Tou sent Hadoram his son unto King David, to ask after his welfare, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and had smitten him, for Hadadezer had had wars with Tou, —and, in his hand, were vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze.

11 גם אתם הקדיש המלך דוד ליהוה עם הכסף והזהב אשר הקדיש מכל הגוים אשר כבש

Them also, did King David hallow unto Yahweh, —with the silver and the gold which he had hallowed from all the nations which he had subdued:

12 מארם וממואב ומבני עמון ומפלשתים ומעמלק ומשלל הדדעזר בן רחב מלך צובה

from Syria, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek, —and from the spoil of Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13 ויעש דוד שם בשבו מהכותו את ארם בגיא מלח--שמונה עשר אלף

And David made a name, when he returned from his smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, —eighteen thousand.

14 וישם באדום נצבים בכל אדום שם נצבים ויהי כל אדום עבדים לדוד ויושע יהוה את דוד בכל אשר הלך

And he put, in Edom, garrisons, throughout all Edom, put be garrisons, and so it was that all Edom became servants unto David, —and Yahweh gave victory unto David, whithersoever he went.

15 וימלך דוד על כל ישראל ויהי דוד עשה משפט וצדקה--לכל עמו

And David reigned over all Israel, —and so it was that David used to execute justice and righteousness for all his people;

16 ויואב בן צרויה על הצבא ויהושפט בן אחילוד מזכיר

and, Joab, son of Zeruiah, was over the army, —and, Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, was remembrancer.

17 וצדוק בן אחיטוב ואחימלך בן אביתר כהנים ושריה סופר

And, Zadok, son of Ahitub, and Abimelech, son of Abiathar, were priests, —and, Seraiah, was scribe;

18 ובניהו בן יהוידע והכרתי והפלתי ובני דוד כהנים היו

and, Benaiah, son of Jehoiadah, was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites, —and, the sons of David, became, chief rulers.
