< Tito 1 >
1 NA Paulo ke kauwa a ke Akua, he lunaolelo hoi na Iesu Kristo ma ka manaoio o ka poe i waeia mai e ke Akua, a ma ka hooiaio ana'ku i ka olelo oiaio mamuli o ka malama i ke Akua;
PAULOS, a servant of Aloha, and apostle of Jeshu Meshiha, for the faith of the chosen ones of Aloha, and the knowledge of the truth which is in the fear of Aloha;
2 Me ka manaolana i ke ola mau loa a ke Akua hoopunipuni ole i olelo mua mai ai mamua loa aku o keia ao; (aiōnios )
unto the hope of eternal life, which Aloha the true counselled before the times of the ages, (aiōnios )
3 A i kona manawa pono hoi, ua hoike i kana olelo, ma ka haiolelo ana, i kauohaia mai ia'u ma ke kauoha a ko kakou Ola a ke Akua:
and his word hath revealed in his time by our preaching, which was confided to me by the command of Aloha our Saviour:
4 Ia Tito i ke keiki ponoi ma ka manaoio kuikahi; o ke aloha, o ke ahonui a me ka maluhia mai ke Akua ka Makua mai, a me ka Haku o Iesu Kristo o ko kakou Ola.
To Titos, my true son in the common faith. Grace and peace from Aloha the Father and from our Lord Jeshu Meshiha our Saviour.
5 Eia ka'u mea i waiho aku ai ia oe ma Kerete, i hooponopono oe i na mea hemahema, a e kukulu hoi i na lunakahiko iloko o na kulanakauhale a pau e like me ka'u i kanoha ai ia oe;
For this I left thee in Kreta, that those things which were wanting thou mayest rectify, and constitute presbyters in every city as I commanded thee.
6 Ina i hala ole kekahi, he kane hoi na ka wahine hookahi, he mau keiki manaoio kana, aole i oleloia no ka uhauha, aole hoi he kolohe.
Him who is without blame, and is the husband of one wife, and who hath believing children, who are not vicious nor addicted to intemperance.
7 No ka mea, e pono e hala ole ka luna kiai, he puuku la hoi ia no ko Akua; aole hookuli, aole huhu, aole lilo i ka waina, aole mokomoko, aole puui i ka waiwai ino:
For a presbyter is bound to be without blame, as the steward of Aloha; he shall not be led by the will of self, nor be irascible, nor a transgressor over wine, neither shall his hand be hasty to strike, nor shall he be a lover of sordid gains.
8 Aka, he hookipa, he makemake i ka pono, he kuoo, he hoopono, he hemolele, me ka hoomanawanui;
But he shall be a lover of guests, and a lover of the good, and be chaste, and equitable, and holy, and withholding himself from lusts;
9 E hoopaa ana i ka olelo oiaio, me ia i aoia'i, i hiki ia ia ma ke ao pono ana'ku ke paipai aku a me ka hoopaa aku i ka poe e hoole mai ana.
and careful over the doctrine of the word of faith, that he may be able also to comfort by his teaching the healthy, and to reprove those who are contentious.
10 No ka mea, he nui no ka poe hookuli, e olelo lapuwale ana, me ka hoopunipuni, no ke okipoepoe ka nui.
For there are many who are not in subjection, and whose words are vain, and make the minds of men to err, especially those of the circumcision,
11 E pono ke hoopaaia ko lakou mau waha, ko ka poe i hookahuli i ko na hale okoa, me ke ao ana'ku i na mea e pono ole ai ia lakou ke ao, no ka waiwai ino.
those, whose mouths it behoves to stop. Many houses they destroy, and teach what they ought not, for the sake of filthy gain.
12 O kekahi o lakou, he kaula no lakou iho no, ka i olelo iho, He hoopunipuni mau ko Kerete, he poe holoholona hihiu hewa opu heha.
One of them, a prophet of their own, hath said, The sons of Kreta are always liars, evil beasts, and lazy bellies.
13 He oiaio keia hoike ana la; nolaila e papa ikaika aku oe ia lakou, i ku pono lakou ma ka manaoio;
And true is this testimony. Wherefore reprove them severely, that they may be sound in the faith,
14 Aole e malama ana i ko ka Iudaio manao lapuwale, aole hoi i na kauoha a kanaka a ka poe i hookabuli i ka olelo oiaio.
nor cast themselves to the fables of the Jihudoyee, and to the mandates of men who hate the truth.
15 I ka poe maemae, ua maemae na mea a pau; aka, i ka poe haumia a me ka hoomaloka, aohe i mea maemae ia lakou; ua haumia nae ko lakou naau a me ko lakou lunamanao.
For every thing is pure to the pure; but to those who are polluted and unfaithful nothing is pure; but their understanding and their conscience are polluted.
16 Ua hooiaio ko lakou waha i ko lakou ike ana i ke Akua; aka, ma ka hana ana ua hoole lakou, he poe e hoowahawahaia, he hoolohe ole, he ku ole i na hana maikai a pau.
And they profess to know Aloha, but in their works they deny him, and are abominable and disobedient, and reprobate to every good work.
