< Halelu 121 >

1 E LEHA aku au i ko'u mau maka i na mauna, Mailaila mai ko'u kokua e hiki mai ai.
[When we travel toward Jerusalem], I look up toward the hills [and I ask myself], “Who will help me?”
2 Mai Iehova mai ko'u kokua, Nana no i hana i ka lani, a me ka honua.
[And my answer is] that Yahweh is the one who helps me; he is the one who made heaven and the earth.
3 Aole ia e haawi i kou wawae i ke kulanalana; O ka mea malama ia oe, aole ia e maluhiluhi.
He will not allow us to fall/stumble; God, who protects us, will not fall asleep.
4 Aia hoi, o ka mea malama i ka Iseraela, Aole ia e maluhiluhi, aole ia e hiamoe.
The one who protects us Israeli people never gets sleepy, nor does he sleep [LIT].
5 O Iehova no kou kiai; O Iehova no kou malu, ma kou lima akau.
Yahweh watches over us; he is like the shade [MET] [that protects us from the sun].
6 Aole e hahau mai ka la ia oe i ke ao, Aole hoi o ka mahina i ka po.
[He will not allow] the sun to harm us during the day, and [he will not allow] the moon to harm us during the night.
7 E malama mai no o Iehova ia oe i ka ino a pau; Nana no e malama i kou uhane.
Yahweh will protect us from being harmed in any manner; he will keep us safe.
8 E kiai no o Iehova i kou puka ana iwaho a me kou komo ana iloko, Mai keia wa a ka manawa pau ole.
He will protect us from the time that we leave [our houses in the morning] until we return [in the evening]; he will protect us now, and he will protect us forever.
