< Solomona 9 >

1 KUKULU ae la ka naauao i kona hale, Kalai iho la oia i kona mau kia ehiku.
Wisdom hath built herself a house, she hath hewn her out seven pillars.
2 Kalua oia i kana mau mea momona; Kawili ae la oia i kona waina; Hoomakaukau no i kana papaaina.
She hath slain her victims, mingled her wine, and set forth her table.
3 Hoouna aku la oia i kana poe kauwawahine, E hea aku maluna o na wahi kiekie o ke kulanakauhale,
She hath sent her maids to invite to the tower, and to the walls of the city:
4 Owai ka mea naaupo? e huli mai ia io'u nei: I ka mea noonoo ole hoi, olelo ae la oia ia ia,
Whosoever is a little one, let him come to me. And to the unwise she said:
5 Ina, e ai mai oukou i ka'u berena, E inu hoi i ka waina a'u i kawili ai.
Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine which I have mingled for you.
6 E haalele i ka poe manao ole, i ola oukou, E hele hoi ma ke ala o ka naauao.
Forsake childishness, and live, and walk by the ways of prudence.
7 O ka mea e ao aku i ke kanaka aia, E loaa ia ia ka hilahila; O ka mea e ao aku i ka mea hewa, e loaa ia ia ka palahea.
He that teacheth a scorner, doth an injury to himself: and he that rebuketh a wicked man, getteth himself a blot.
8 Mai ao aku i ke kanaka aia, O hoowahawaha mai oia ia oe; E ao aku i ka mea naauao, A e aloha mai oia ia oe.
Rebuke not a scorner lest he hate thee. Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 E haawi na ka mea naauao, A e oi mau ka naauao; E ao hoi i ka mea hoopono, A e mahuahua ae la kona ike.
Give an occasion to a wise man, and wisdom shall be added to him. Teach a just man, and he shall make haste to receive it.
10 O ka mole o ka naauao, Oia ka makau ia Iehova; O ka ike i ka Mea hemolele, Oia ka noonoo ana,
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is prudence.
11 No ka mea, ma o'u nei, e mahuahua ae ai kou mau la, A e nui ai hoi na makahiki o kou ola ana.
For by me shall thy days be multiplied, and years of life shall be added to thee.
12 Ina e naauao oe, e naauao no oe nou iho; Ina e hoowahawaha oe, maluna ou wale no ia mea.
If thou be wise, thou shalt be so to thyself: and if a scorner, thou alone shalt bear the evil.
13 O ka wahine naaupo, he walaau kona; Ua manao ole, aole oia i ike i kekahi mea.
A foolish woman and clamorous, and full of allurements, and knowing nothing at all,
14 Noho no oia ma ka puka o kona hale, Ma ka noho hoi ma kahi kiekie o ke kulanakauhale,
Sat at the door of her house, upon a seat, in a high place of the city,
15 E hea aku i ka poe hele ma ke ala, Ka poe hele pololei ma ke alanui;
To call them that pass by the way, and go on their journey:
16 Owai ka mea manao ole? e huli mai i o'u nei; I ka mea naaupo, olelo aku la oia ia ia,
He that is a little one, let him turn to me. And to the fool she said:
17 Ua ono no na wai i aihueia, Ua mananalo hoi ka berena ke ai malu.
Stolen waters are sweeter, and hid den bread is more pleasant.
18 Aole nae i ike kela, malaila ka poe make, Aia kona poe hoaai ilalo loa i ka malu make. (Sheol h7585)
And he did not know that giants are there, and that her guests are in the depths of hell. (Sheol h7585)
