< Solomona 12 >
1 O KA mea makemake i ke aoia mai, oia ka i makemake i ka ike; O ka mea hoowahawaha i ke aoia mai, he holoholona ia.
Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2 O ka mea maikai, e loaa ia ia ka lokomaikai no Iehova mai; A e hoohewa mai oia i ke kanaka hoopunipuni.
The good obtaineth favor of the Lord; but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
3 Aole ma ka hewa e ku paa'i ke kanaka; O ka hookumu ana o ka poe pono, aole ia e neenee ae.
A man cannot be firmly established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous will not be moved.
4 O ka wahine noho pono he papale alii oia i kana kane; Aka, me he mea popopo la i kona mau iwi ka wahine e hoohilahila aku.
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but as rottenness in his bones is one that bringeth shame [on him].
5 O ka manao ana o ka poe pono, aia ma ka hoopono; O ke kuka ana o ka poe hewa, aia ma ka hoopunipuni.
The thoughts of the righteous are justice: the best counsels of the wicked are deceit.
6 O ka olelo a ka poe hewa, he hoohalua ia i ke koko; Aka, o ka waha o ka poe pololei, oia ka lakou e hoopakele aku.
The words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright will deliver them.
7 Ua hooauhulihia ka poe hewa, a nalowale; E ku mau ana hoi ka hale o ka poe pono.
The wicked are suddenly overthrown, and are no more; but the house of the righteous will endure.
8 E hoomaikaiia ke kanaka e like me kona akamai; Aka, o ka mea naau lokoino, e hoowahawahaia oia.
In accordance with his intelligence is a man praised; but he that is perverse of heart will come to be despised.
9 O ka mea i hoowahawahaia, a he kauwa nana, Oi aku oia i ka mea hoohanohano ia ia iho, a nele i ka ai ole.
Better is he that is lightly esteemed who hath a servant, than he that aimeth after honor, and lacketh bread.
10 Manao no ke kanaka pono i ka ola o kona holoholona; Aka, o ke aloha o ka poe hewa, he lokoino no ia.
A righteous man careth for the life of his beast; but the mercies of the wicked are cruelty.
11 O ka mea i mahi i kona aina, e maona no i ka ai; Aka, o ka hoopili mea ai me ka poe palaualelo, he lapuwale ia.
He that tilleth his ground will be satisfied with bread; but he that runneth after idle persons is void of sense.
12 He lealea i ka mea hewa ka punihei ino ana; O ke kumu o ka poe pono e hua mai no ia.
The wicked is covetous for the net of evil men; but [God] giveth root to the righteous.
13 Ma ka ino o na lehelehe i puniheiia'i ka mea hewa; E puka mai no hoi ka mea pono noloko ae o ka pilikia.
In the transgression of his lips is the snare of the wicked; but the righteous cometh out of distress.
14 Ma ka hua o ka waha, e maona ai ke kanaka i ka maikai; O ka uku o ko ke kanaka lima e haawiia ia ia.
From the fruit of his mouth will a man be satisfied with what is good; and the recompense of a man's hands will be brought back unto him.
15 O ka aoao o ka mea naaupo, ua pololei ia i kona manao iho; Aka, o ka mea hoolohe i ke aoia mai, ua naauao oia.
The way of a fool is straight in his own eyes; but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
16 O ka huhu o ka naaupo o ike koke ia; Hoonalowale ka mea maalea i ka mea e hilahila'i.
The wrath of the fool is known on the very day; but he that concealeth the disgrace is prudent.
17 O ka mea hai aku i ka oiaio, hoike oia i ka pono; A o ka hoike wahahee hoi, hoike oia i ka hoopunipuni.
He that uttereth truth announceth righteousness; but a false witness, deceit.
18 Olelo kekahi e like me ka hou ana o ka pahikaua; A o ke elelo o ka poe naauao, ma ka hoola ia.
There is some one that useth words [which are] like the thrusts of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is healing.
19 O na lehelehe oiaio, e mau ana no ia; O ke elelo wahahee e pau koke no ia.
The lip of truth will stand firm for ever; but only for a moment the tongue of falsehood.
20 He hoopunipuni ma ka naau o ka poe manao ino; A no ka poe kukakuka i ka maluhia, he olioli.
Deceit is in the heart of those that contrive evil; but for the counsellors of peace there is joy.
21 Aole e loohia mai ka mea pono e ka poino; Aka, piha no ka poe hewa i na mea e ino ai.
No wrong can come unawares to the righteous; but the wicked are full of evil.
22 He mea hoopailua ia Iehova na lehelehe hoopunipuni; O ka poe hana ma ka oiaio, oia kona olioli.
An abomination of the Lord are lips of falsehood; but they that deal in faithfulness [obtain] his favor.
23 O ke kanaka noeau, e waiho ana ia ia ka ike; O ka naau o na naaupo, hoike wale no ia i ka lapuwale.
A prudent man concealeth [his] knowledge; but the heart of fools proclaimeth [their] folly.
24 O ka lima o ka poe hana mau e lilo oia i haku; O ka mea hoomolowa, malalo no ia o ka hookupu.
The hand of the diligent will bear rule; but the indolent must become tributary.
25 O ke kaumaha iloko o ka naau o ka kanaka, he mea e kulou iho ai; Aka, ma ka olelo maikai ia e hooluoluia'i.
If there be care in the heart of man, let him suppress it; and a good word will change it into joy.
26 Ua maikai ka mea pono mamua o kona hoanoho; O ka aoao o ka poe hewa, e hoowalewale oia ia lakou.
The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor; but the way of the wicked leadeth them astray.
27 Aole o hopu ka molowa i kana mea ai; Aka, o ka waiwai o ke kanaka maikai, he gula ia.
The indolent roasteth not that which he hath caught in hunting; but the most precious wealth of man is diligence.
28 Ma ke ala pono ke ola, Ma kolaila kuamoo no hoi, aole e make.
On the path of righteousness there is life; and on her pathway there is immortality,
