< Lunakanawai 10 >

1 A MAHOPE iho o Abimeleka, ku mai o Tola, ke keiki a Pua, ke keiki a Dodo, he kanaka no ka Isakara, nana i hoola i ka Iseraela. A noho no ia ma Samira, ma ka mauna o Eperaima.
After Abimelech, a leader rose up in Israel, Tola, the son of Puah, the paternal uncle of Abimelech, a man of Issachar, who lived in Shamir on mount Ephraim.
2 Nana i hooponopono i ka Iseraela, he iwakaluakumamakolu makahiki, a make ia, kanuia iho la ia ma Samira.
And he judged Israel for twenty-three years, and he died and was buried at Shamir.
3 Mahope iho ona, ku mai o Iaira, he kanaka no Gileada, nana i hooponopono i ka Iseraela, he iwakaluakumamalua makahiki.
After him succeeded Jair, a Gileadite, who judged Israel for twenty-two years,
4 He kanakolu ana mau keikikane, a holo lakou maluna o na hoki keiki, he kanakolu; he kanakolu ko lakou poe kulanakauhale, i kapaia Havote-iaira, a hiki mai i neia la; aia no ma ka aina o Gileada.
having thirty sons sitting upon thirty young donkeys, and who were leaders of thirty cities, which from his name were called Havvoth Jair, that is, the towns of Jair, even to the present day, in the land of Gilead.
5 Make iho la o Iaira, a kanuia iho la ma Kamona.
And Jair died, and he was buried in the place which is called Kamon.
6 Hana hewa hou aku la na mamo a Iseraela, imua o Iehova, a malama aku la i na Baala, a me na Asetarota, a me na'kua o Suria, a me na'kua o Sidona, a me na'kua o Moaba, a me na'kua o na mamo a Amora, a me na'kua o ko Pilisetia, a haalele ia Iehova, aole i malama ia ia.
But the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, joining new sins to old, and they served idols, the Baals and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria and Sidon, and of Moab and the sons of Ammon, and the Philistines. And they abandoned the Lord, and they did not worship him.
7 Wela iho la ka huhu o Iehova i ka Iseraela, a hoolilo aku la ia lakou i ka lima o ko Pilisetia, a i ka lima o na mamo a Amona.
And the Lord, becoming angry against them, delivered them into the hands of the Philistines and the sons of Ammon.
And they were afflicted and vehemently oppressed for eighteen years, all who were living beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorite, which is in Gilead,
9 Hele ae no hoi na mamo a Amona i kela aoao o Ioredane, a kaua ae la i ka Iuda, a i ka Beniamina, a i ko ka hale a Eperaima; no ia mea, kaumaha loa ka Iseraela.
to such a great extent that the sons of Ammon, crossing over the Jordan, laid waste to Judah and Benjamin and Ephraim. And Israel was exceedingly afflicted.
10 Hea aku la na mamo a Iseraela ia Iehova, i aku la, Ua hana hewa makou ia oe, no ka mea, ua haalele makou i ko makou Akua, a ua malama i na Baala.
And crying out to the Lord, they said: “We have sinned against you. For we have forsaken the Lord our God, and we have served the Baals.”
11 I mai la o Iehova i na mamo a Iseraela, Aole anei na'u oukou i hoopakele, mai ko Aigupita mai? a mai ka Amora mai, a mai na mamo a Amona mai, a mai ko Pilisetia mai?
And the Lord said to them: “Did not the Egyptians, and the Amorites, and the sons of Ammon, and the Philistines,
12 Hookaumaha mai no hoi o ko Zidona ia oukou, a me ka Ameleka, a me ka Maona, a hea mai oukou ia'u, a hoola mai au ia oukou; mai ko lakou lima mai.
and also the Sidonians, and Amalek, and Canaan, oppress you, and so you cried out to me, and I rescued you from their hand?
13 Aka, ua haalele oukou ia'u, a ua malama i na'kua e; nolaila, aole au e hoola hou ia oukou.
And yet you have forsaken me, and you have worshipped foreign gods. For this reason, I will not continue to free you any more.
14 E hele oukou, e hea aku i na'kua a oukou i koho ai; na lakou e hoola mai ia oukou, i ka manawa o ko oukou kaumaha.
Go, and call upon the gods whom you have chosen. Let them free you in the time of anguish.”
15 I aku la na mamo o Iseraela ia Iehova, Ua hana hewa makou, o ka mea i pono i kou mau maka, pela oe e hana mai ai ia makou. Ke noi aku nei makou ia oe, e hoola mai ia makou i keia la wale no.
And the sons of Israel said to the Lord: “We have sinned. You may repay us in whatever way pleases you. Yet free us now.”
16 Kiola aku la lakou i na'kua e, mai o lakou aku, a malama iho la ia Iehova; a menemene iho la kona uhane, no ke kaumaha nui o ka Iseraela.
And saying these things, they cast out all the idols of the foreign gods from their regions, and they served the Lord God. And he was touched by their miseries.
17 Akoakoa mai la na mamo a Amona, a hoomoana iho la ma Gileada; a akoakoa mai la na mamo a Iseraela, a hoomoana iho la ma Mizepa.
And then the sons of Ammon, shouting out together, pitched their tents in Gilead. And the sons of Israel gathered together against them, and they made camp at Mizpah.
18 I ae la na kanaka, ka poe luna o Gileada hoi, kekahi i kekahi, Owai ke kanaka e hoomaka i ke kaua aku i na mamo a Amona? E lilo ia i luna maluna o na kanaka a pau o Gileada.
And the leaders of Gilead said to one another, “Whoever among us will be the first to begin to contend against the sons of Ammon, he shall be the leader of the people of Gilead.”
