< Ioba 36 >
1 OLELO hou aku la o Elihu, i aku la,
Elihu also proceeded, and said,
2 E ahonui iki mai ia'u, a e hoike aku au ia oe, No ka mea, he wahi olelo ka'u i koe no ke Akua.
Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee: for I have yet somewhat to say on God’s behalf.
3 E lawe mai no au i kuu ike mai kahi loihi mai, A e hoapono aku au i kuu mea nana i hana.
I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.
4 No ka mea, aole e wahahee ka'u olelo; O ka mea hemolele i ka ike, oia me oe.
For truly my words are not false: one that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.
5 Aia hoi, he mana ke Akua, aole ia e hoowahawaha: He mana kona, he ikaika ka naauao.
Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength of understanding.
6 Aole ia e hoopomaikai i ka aia: Aka, e haawi no ia i ka pono no na ilihune.
He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth to the afflicted [their] right.
7 Aole ia e lawe ae i kona mau maka mai ka poe pono aku; Aia no ia me na'lii maluna o ka nohoalii; A e hoonoho paa no oia ia lakou, i kiekie ai lakou.
He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings upon the throne he setteth them for ever, and they are exalted.
8 A ina e hoopaaia lakou i na kaulahao, A e hoopaaia lakou i ke kaula o ka popilikia;
And if they be bound in fetters, and be taken in the cords of affliction;
9 Alaila hoike no ia ia lakou i ka lakou hana, A me ko lakou hewa, no ka mea, ua hana kiekie lakou.
Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly.
10 Wehe ae no ia i ko lakou pepeiao no ke ao ana, A olelo aku e huli mai lakou mai ka hewa mai.
He openeth also their ear to instruction, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.
11 Ina hoolohe lakou, a malama ia ia, E noho lakou i ko lakou mau la me ka pomaikai, A i ko lakou mau makahiki me ka oluolu.
If they hearken and serve [him], they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
12 Aka, i hoolohe ole lakou, e make lakou i ka pahikaua, A e make lakou iloko o ka naaupo.
But if they hearken not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.
13 A o ka poe aia ma ka naau, hoiliili lakou i ka inaina: Aole lakou e kahea aku, i ka wa e hoopaa aku ai oia ia lakou.
But they that are godless in heart lay up anger: they cry not for help when he bindeth them.
14 E make no lakou i ka wa ui, A ua pau ko lakou ola ana iwaena o ka poe haumia.
They die in youth, and their life [perisheth] among the unclean.
15 Hoopakele no ia i ka mea hune i kona popilikia, A wehe ae ia i ko lakou pepeiao i ka wa kaumaha.
He delivereth the afflicted by his affliction, and openeth their ear in oppression.
16 A lawe auanei hoi oia ia oe mai kahi pilikia a kahi akea, Ma kahi aohe ona pilikia: A o ka mea e kauia ma kou papaaina, e piha ia i ka momona.
Yea, he would have led thee away out of distress into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which is set on thy table should be full of fatness.
17 Aka, i lawe paha oe i ka hewa o ka mea aia, O ka hoohewa, a me ka hoopai e hahai mai.
But thou art full of the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold [on thee].
18 No ka mea, no ka huhu, [E ao, ] o lawe aku oia ia oe me ka hahau ana; Alaila aole e hiki i ka panai nui ke hoopakele ia oe.
Because there is wrath, beware lest thou be led away by [thy] sufficiency; neither let the greatness of the ransom turn thee aside.
19 E manao anei oia i kou waiwai? Aole! aole ke gula, aole hoi na mea waiwai a pau.
Will thy riches suffice, [that thou be] not in distress, or all the forces of [thy] strength?
20 Mai iini oe i ka po, I ka wa i okiia'i na kanaka mai ko lakou wahi.
Desire not the night, when peoples are cut off in their place.
21 E makaala, mai malama oe i ka hewa: No ka mea, ua koho aku oe i keia mamua o ka popilikia.
Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.
22 Aia hoi, o ke Akua ke hookiekie ma kona mana, Owai ke ao aku e like me ia?
Behold, God doeth loftily in his power: who is a teacher like unto him?
23 Owai la i kuhikuhi aku ia ia i kona aoao? Owai la ke olelo aku, Ua hana oe i ka hewa?
Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought unrighteousness?
24 E hoomanao, e hoonui aku oe i kana hana, Ka mea a na kanaka i ike ai.
Remember that thou magnify his work, whereof men have sung.
25 E ike na kanaka a pau ia; E nana ke kanaka mai kahi loihi.
All men have looked thereon; man beholdeth it afar off.
26 Aia hoi, he nui ke Akua, aole kakou i ike, A o ka heluna o na makahiki ona, aole e huliia.
Behold, God is great, and we know him not; the number of his years is unsearchable.
27 No ka mea, ua hoopii aku ia i na kulu wai; Ninini iho lakou he ua, noloko o kona ohu,
For he draweth up the drops of water, which distil in rain from his vapour:
28 Ka mea a na naulu i hookulukulu iho ai, A ninini nui maluna o ke kanaka.
Which the skies pour down and drop upon man abundantly.
29 E hoomaopopo anei kekahi i ka hohola ana o na ao? A me ka halulu ana o kona halelewa?
Yea, can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, the thunderings of his pavilion?
30 Aia hoi, hohola aku no ia i kona malamalama maluna ona, A uhi no ia i ka hohonu o ke kai.
Behold, he spreadeth his light around him; and he covereth the bottom of the sea.
31 No ka mea, ma o lakou la ke hooponopono nei ia i na kanaka; Ke haawi nei ia i ka ai a nui loa.
For by these he judgeth the peoples; he giveth meat in abundance.
32 Me na poho lima ke uhi no ia i ka uila, A kauoha aku ia ia i kona wahi e kau ai:
He covereth his hands with the lightning; and giveth it a charge that it strike the mark.
33 I kuhikuhi aku ia ia ia i kona mau makamaka; Aia ka ahu ana o ka huhu maluna o ka mea hewa.
The noise thereof telleth concerning him, the cattle also concerning [the storm] that cometh up.
