< Ioba 35 >
1 OLELO aku la hoi o Elihu, i aku la,
Moreover Eliu spoke these words:
2 Ke manao nei oe he pono keia, O kau i olelo mai, O ko'u pono, ua oi mamua o ko ke Akua?
Doth thy thought seem right to thee, that thou shouldst say: I am more just than God?
3 No ka mea, ua ninau mai oe, Heaha ka pono no'u? Heaha hoi ko'u pomaikai no kuu hewa ole ana?
For thou saidst: That which is right doth not please thee: or what will it profit thee if I sin?
4 Owau ke hoihoi aku ia olelo iou la, A i kou mau hoalauna me oe.
Therefore I will answer thy words, and thy friends with thee.
5 E nana ae oe i ka lani, a ike; A e nana i na ao, ua kiekie lakou mamua ou.
Look up to heaven and see, and behold the sky, that it is higher than thee.
6 Ina e hana hewa oe, heaha kau hana ia ia? Ina e hoonuiia kou mau hala, heaha kau e hana'i nana?
If thou sin, what shalt thou hurt him? and if thy iniquities be multiplied, what shalt thou do against him?
7 Ina ua pono oe, heaha kau e haawi aku ai ia ia? Heaha kana e loaa'i mai kou lima aku?
And if thou do justly, what shalt thou give him, or what shall he receive of thy hand?
8 No ke kanaka e like me oe kou hala, A no ke keiki a ke kanaka kou pono.
Thy wickedness may hurt a man that is like thee: and thy justice may help the son of man.
9 Ke uwe ae nei ka poe kaumaha no ka hooluhiia; I uwe lakou no ka lima o na mea koikoi.
By reason of the multitude of oppressions they shall cry out: and shall wail for the violence of the arm of tyrants.
10 Aka, aole e i mai kekahi, Auhea ke Akua nana au i hana, Ka mea i haawi mai i na mele olioli i ka po;
And he hath not said: Where is God, who made me, who hath given songs in the night?
11 O ka mea i ao mai ia kakou mamua o na holoholona o ka honua, A ua hoonaauao oia ia kakou mamua o na manu o ka lewa?
Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and instructeth us more than the fowls of the air.
12 Malaila lakou e uwe ai, aole mea i ekemu mai, No ka haaheo o ka poe hewa.
There shall they cry, and he will not hear, because of the pride of evil men.
13 He oiaio, aole ke Akua e hoolohe mai i ka mea wahahee, Aole ka Mea mana e maliu mai ia.
God therefore will not hear in vain, and the Almighty will look into the causes of every one.
14 Ina paha e olelo oe, aole oe i ike ia ia, Imua ona ka hooponopono, nolaila e kali aku oe ia ia.
Yea when thou shalt say: He considereth not: be judged before him, and expect him.
15 Ano hoi, he mea ole ka hoopai ana o kona inaina, Aole ia e haka pono mai i na hewa;
For he doth not now bring on his fury, neither doth he revenge wickedness exceedingly.
16 Nolaila i oaka hewa mai ai ko Ioba waha, He hoonui olelo kana me ko ike ole.
Therefore Job openeth his mouth in vain, and multiplieth words without knowledge.
