< Isaia 53 >
1 O WAI ka mea i manaoio i ka makou hoike ana? Iawai la hoi i hoikeia'ku ai ka lima o Iehova?
(Who will believe what we will tell them [about God’s servant]?/Hardly anyone will believe what we will tell them [about God’s servant].) [RHQ] (Who will see what Yahweh does by his great power?/Very few people will see what Yahweh does by his great power.) [MTY, RHQ]
2 E ulu mai no oia imua ona me he oha la, E like hoi me ke aa kupu mai loko mai o ka Iepo maloo, Aole ona maikai o ke kino, aole ona hanohano; A ia kakou e ike aku ai ia ia, aole ona helehelena maikai i makemake aku ai kakou ia ia.
While God watches, his servant will grow up [appearing/seeming to be very insignificant/unimportant], like a weak young plant that shoots up from a root [of a tree that is growing] in dry ground. There will be nothing beautiful or majestic about him, nothing that would cause us to want to be with him.
3 Ua hoowahawahaia oia, a ua haaleleia hoi ia e na kanaka; He kanaka eha, a ua ike hoi oia i ka popilikia; E like me ka huna ana o na maka, mai o kakou aku, Pela no ia i hoowahawahaia'i, a manao ole hoi kakou ia ia.
People will despise and reject him. {He will be despised and rejected.} He will endure much pain, and he will suffer much. [Because his face will be very disfigured], people will not [want to] look at him; people will despise him and think that he is not worth paying any attention to.
4 He oiaio no, ua kaikai no oia i ko kakou popilikia, Ua halihali no oia i ko kakou eha: Aka, manao aku kakou ia ia, ua paipaiia, Ua hahauia hoi, a ua hookaumahaia e ke Akua.
But he will be [punished for] the sicknesses [of our souls]; he will endure great pain for us. But we will think that he is being punished by God, afflicted/punished [for his own sins].
5 Aka, ua hou a oia no ko kakou hewa, Ua paopaoia oia no ko kakou hala; Maluna ona ka hoopai ana e malu ai kakou, Ma kona mau palapu, ua hoolaia mai kakou.
But his body will be bruised because of the evil things that we did, wounded because of our sins. He will be beaten in order that things will go well for our [souls]; and because he will be whipped, [our souls] can be healed.
6 Ua hele hewa kakou a pau e like me na hipa; Ua huli kela mea keia mea o kakou i kona aoao iho; A ua kau no o Iehova maluna oua i ka hewa o kakou a pau.
All of us have gone away [from God] like [SIM] sheep who have strayed away [from their shepherd]. We have turned away [from doing the things that God wants in order] to do the things that we wanted [MET]. [We deserve to be punished, but] Yahweh will punish him instead of punishing us for all of our sins.
7 Ua hookaumahaia oia, ua hoopilikiaia hoi, Aole nae i ekemu ae kona waha. E like me ke keikihipa, ua alakaiia oia i ka make, E like hoi me ka hipa i pane ole imua o ka mea nana ia e ako, Pela no oia, aole i ekemu ae kona waha.
He will be abused and caused to suffer, but he will not say anything [to complain]. They will lead him [to where they will execute him], [like they lead] a lamb to where it will be slaughtered. And like a sheep does not (bleat/make any noise) when the shearer [cuts off its wool], he will not say anything [MTY] [to defend himself when he is killed].
8 Ua laweia'ku la oia, mai ka paa ana, a mai ka hookolokolo ana hoi; A owai la ka mea e hai i kona hanauna? No ka mea, ua kipakuia oia mai ka aina o ka poe ola aku; No ka hewa o ko'u poe kanaka ia i hahauia'i.
After he is arrested and put on trial, he will be taken away [and executed]. And no one [RHQ] will be able to talk about his descendants, because he will die [EUP] [without being married and having children]. He will be (afflicted/caused to suffer) for the wrong things that we have done.
9 Haawi ae la oia i kona lua me ka poe hewa, Me ka poe mea waiwai hoi iloko o kona make; Aole nae ia i hana i ka mea hewa, Aohe hoopunipuni ma kona waha.
Although he will never have done any wrong or deceived [MTY] anyone, people will plan to bury his corpse where wicked people are buried, but instead, a rich man will [bury him] after he dies.
10 Aka, manao no o Iehova e paopao ia ia, Ua hoeha oia ia ia: A i ka wa e haawi aku ai oe i kona uhane i mohai hala, E ike no oia i kana mau keiki, a e hooloihi no hoi i kona mau la, A e pomaikai auanei ka makemake o Iehova ma kona mau lima.
But it will be Yahweh’s will that he be afflicted and caused to suffer. And [when he dies], Yahweh will cause him to be an offering to remove the guilt of sinners. But later he will have many [spiritual] children, and he will live (a long time/forever) after he [dies and] becomes alive [again], and he [MTY] will accomplish everything that Yahweh has planned.
11 E ike aku no oia i ka hope o ka luhi ana o kona uhane, A e oluolu oia; Ma ka ike ana ia ia, e hoapono no ka'u kauwa hemolele i na mea he nui, No ka mea, nana no e amo i ko lakou hewa.
When he sees all that he will accomplish because of his suffering, he will be satisfied. And because of what will have happened to him, Yahweh’s righteous servant will cause the guilt of many people to be ended, because he will remove [the guilt for] their sins.
12 Nolaila, e mahele aku au nana, me ka poe koikoi, A nana no e mahele i ka waiwai pio me ka poe ikaika; Ua ninini aku oia i kona uhane i ka make; A ua helu pu ia oia me ka poe lawehala; A halihali no oia i ka hewa o na mea he nui, A e nouoi aku la oia no ka poe i lawehala.
So Yahweh will consider him to be one of the truly great people; he will [be like a king who] divides up [among his soldiers] the (spoils/things they took from their enemies after defeating them) [MET], because he will sacrifice himself and die. [Even though people] will consider him to be a sinner, he will remove the guilt of many [people], and he will intercede/pray that those who have done things that are wrong [will be forgiven].
