< II Samuela 2 >
1 MAHOPE iho o keia mea, ninau aku la o Davida ia Iehova, i aku la, E pii aku anei au i kekahi kulanakauhale o ka Iuda? I mai la o Iehova ia ia, E pii oe. I aku la o Davida, Ai la ihea kahi e pii aku ai au? I mai la kela, I Heberona.
And it came to pass after this that David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into one of the cities of Juda? and the Lord said to him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? and he said, To Chebron.
2 Hele aku la o Davida ilaila, a me kana mau wahine elua, o Ahinoama no Iezereela, a me Abigaila, ka wahine a Nabala no Karemela.
And David went up thither to Chebron, [he] and both his wives, Achinaam the Jezraelitess, and Abigaia the wife of Nabal the Carmelite,
3 Lawe pu aku la o Davida i na kanaka ona, ka poe i noho pu me ia, o kela kanaka keia kanaka me kona ohua: a noho iho la lakou ma na kulanakauhale o Heberona.
and the men that were with him, every one and his family; and they dwelt in the cities of Chebron.
And the men of Judea come, and anoint David there to reign over the house of Juda; and they reported to David, saying, The men of Jabis of the country of Galaad have buried Saul.
5 Hoouna aku la o Davida i na elele i kanaka o Iabesa-gileada, i aku la ia lakou, E alohaia mai oukou e Iehova, no ka mea, ua hana aku oukou i keia lokomaikai i ko oukou haku ia Saula, a ua kanu iho ia ia.
And David sent messengers to the rulers of Jabis of the country of Galaad, and David said to them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, because ye have wrought this mercy toward your lord, even toward Saul the anointed of the Lord, and ye have buried him and Jonathan his son.
6 Ano hoi, e hana mai o Iehova i ka lokomaikai a me ka oiaio ia oukou; owau no hoi e uku aku ia oukou i keia lokomaikai, no ka oukou hana ana i keia mea.
And now may the Lord deal in mercy and truth towards you: and I also will requite towards you this good deed, because ye have done this.
7 Nolaila hoi, e hooikaikaia ko oukou mau lima; i nui ke aho o oukou: no ka mea, ua make ko oukou haku o Saula, a ua poni mai ka ohana a Iuda ia'u i alii maluna o lakou.
And now let your hands be made strong, and be valiant; for your master Saul is dead, and moreover the house of Juda have anointed me to be king over them.
8 Aka, o Abenera ke keiki a Nera, ke alii koa no ko Saula poe kaua, lalau aku la oia ia Iseboseta ke keikikane a Saula, a lawe aku la ia ia i Mahanaima.
But Abenner, the son of Ner, the commander-in-chief of Saul's army, took Jebosthe son of Saul, and brought him up from the camp to Manaem
9 A hoalii aku la ia ia maluna o ka Gileada, a maluna o ka Asera, maluna hoi o ko Iezereela, a maluna o ka Eperaima, a maluna o ka Beniamina, a maluna hoi o ka Iseraela a pau.
and made him king over the land of Galaad, and over Thasiri, and over Jezrael, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.
10 He kanaha na makahiki o Iseboseta ke keiki a Saula, i kona wa i noho ai i alii, a elua mau makahiki oia i nohoalii ai. Aka, hahai aku la ka ohana a Iuda mamuli o Davida.
Jebosthe, Saul's son [was] forty years old, when he reigned over Israel; and he reigned two years, but not over the house of Juda, who followed David.
And the days which David reigned in Chebron over the house of Juda were seven years and six months.
And Abenner the son of Ner went forth, and the servants of Jebosthe the son of Saul, from Manaem to Gabaon.
And Joab the son of Saruia, and the servants of David, went forth from Chebron, and met them at the fountain of Gabaon, at the same place: and these sat down by the fountain on this side, and those by the fountain on that side.
I aku la o Ioaba, E ku ae lakou.
And Abenner said to Joab, Let now the young men arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.
15 Alaila, ku ae la a hele aku la na mea he umikumamalua o ka Beniamina no Iseboseta ke keiki a Saula, a me na kanaka o Davida he umikumamalua.
And there arose and passed over by number twelve of the children of Benjamin, belonging to Jebosthe the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
16 Lalau aku la kela mea keia mea i kona hoapaio ma ke poo, a hou aku la i kona pahikaua maloko o ka aoao o kona hoapaio, a haule pu iho la lakou a pau: nolaila, ua kapaia kela wahi, Heleka-hazurima; aia no i Gibeona.
And they seized every one the head of his neighbour with his hand, and his sword [was thrust] into the side of his neighbour, and they fall down together: and the name of that place was called The portion of the treacherous ones, which is in Gabaon.
17 A he kaua nui no ia la: a ua lukuia o Abenera me na kanaka o ka Iseraela imua o na kanaka o Davida.
And the battle was very severe on that day; and Abenner and the men of Israel were worsted before the servants of David.
18 Ilaila na keikikane ekolu a Zeruia, o Ioaba, o Abisai, a o Asahela: a he mama na wawae o Asahela me he dia la o ka nahelehele.
And there were there the three sons of Saruia, Joab, and Abessa, and Asael: and Asael was swift in his feet as a roe in the field.
And Asael followed after Abenner, and turned not to go to the right hand or to the left from following Abenner.
20 Nana ae la o Abenera mahope ona, i ae la, O Asahela anei oe? I mai la kela, Owau no.
And Abenner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asael himself? and he said, I am.
Aole nae i manao o Asahela e haliu ae mai ke alualu ana ia ia.
And Abenner said to him, Turn thou to the right hand or to the left, and lay hold for thyself on one of the young men, and take to thyself his armour: but Asel would not turn back from following him.
And Abenner said yet again to Asael, Stand aloof from me, lest I smite thee to the ground? and how should I lift up my face to Joab?
23 Aka, hoole aku la ia, aole e haliu ae: nolaila, hou aku la o Abenera i ke kumu o ka ihe malalo iho o ka lima o kona iwi aoao, a puka aku la ka ihe ma kona kua: hina iho la ia ilaila, a make iho la ma ia wahi: a o na mea a pau i hiki aku ma kahi i hina iho ai o Asahela a make, ku malie iho la lakou.
And what does this mean? return to Joab thy brother? But he would not stand aloof; and Abenner smites him with the hinder end of the spear on the loins, and the spear went out behind him, and he falls there and dies on the spot: and it came to pass that every one that came to the place where Asael fell and died, stood still.
And Joab and Abessa pursued after Abenner, and the sun went down: and they went as far as the hill of Amman, which is in the front of Gai, by the desert way of Gabaon.
25 Hoakoakoa pu ae la na mamo a Beniamina mamuli o Abenera, a lilo ae la i hookahi poe, a ku iho la maluna pono o ka puu.
And the children of Benjamin who followed Abenner gather themselves together, and they formed themselves into one body, and stood on the top of a hill.
26 Alaila, kahea mai la o Abenera ia Ioaba, i mai la, E ai mau no anei ka pahikaua? Aole anei oe e ike, he mea awaawa no ia ma ka hopena? Pehea la ka loihi, a kena aku oe i na kanaka e uhoi aku mai ke alualu ana ae i ko lakou poe hoahanau?
And Abenner called Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour perpetually? knowest thou not that it will be bitter at last? How long then wilt thou refuse to tell the people to turn from following our brethren?
27 I aku la o Ioaba, Ma ko ke Akua ola ana, ina aole oe i olelo mai, ina ua hoi aku kela kanaka keia kanaka i kakahiaka nei mai ke alualu ana aku i kona hoahanau.
And Joab said, As the Lord lives, if thou hadst not spoken, even from the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.
28 Alaila puhi aku la o Ioaba i ka pu, a ku malie iho la na kanaka a pau, aole i alualu hou aku ia lakou, aole hoi i kaua hou aku lakou.
And Joab sounded the trumpet, and all the people departed, and did not pursue after Israel, and did not fight any longer.
And Abenner and his men departed at evening, [and went] all that night, and crossed over Jordan, and went along the whole adjacent [country], and they come to the camp.
30 Hoi hou aku la o Ioaba mai ke alualu ana ia Abenera: a hoakoakoa ae la i na kanaka a pau, ua nalo iho na kanaka o Davida he umikumamaiwa a me Asahela.
And Joab returned from following Abenner, and he assembled all the people, and there were missing of the people of David, nineteen men, and Asael.
31 Aka, ua pepehi aku na kanaka o Davida i ka Beniamina a me na kanaka o Abenera, a make iho la na kanaka ekolu haneri a me kanaono.
And the servants of David smote of the children of Benjamin, of the men of Abenner, three hundred and sixty men belonging to him.
32 Lawe ae la lakou ia Asahela, a kanu iho la ia ia iloko o ka hale kupapau o kona makuakane i Betelehema. Haele aku la o Ioaba me na kanaka ona ia po a pau, a hiki aku la i Heberona i ka wanaao.
And they take up Asael, and bury him in the tomb of his father in Bethleem. And Joab and the men with him went all the night, and the morning rose upon them in Chebron.
