< II Oihanaalii 17 >
1 NOHO alii iho la o Iehosapata kana keiki mahope ona, A hooikaika ka e aku la oia i ka Iseraela.
Then Jehoshaphat, his son, reigned in his place. And he grew strong against Israel.
And he appointed numbers of soldiers in all the cities of Judah that had been fortified with walls. And he placed garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had seized.
3 Aia pu o Iehova me Iehosapata, no ka mea, hele oia ma na aoao mua o Davida o kona kupuna, aole hoi i imi oia ia Baala.
And the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father, David. And he did not trust in the Baals,
4 Aka, imi aku la oia i ke Akua o kona makuakane; a hele ma kona kanawai, aole e like me ka ka Iseraela hana ana.
but in the God of his father. And he advanced in his precepts, and not according to the sins of Israel.
5 Nolaila hookupaa iho la o Iehova i ke aupuni ma kona lima; a haawi ka luda a pau i na makana na Iehosapata; a ua nui kona waiwai, a me ka hanohano.
And the Lord confirmed the kingdom in his hand. And all of Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat. And innumerable riches were brought to him, and much glory.
6 A ua ikaika kona naau ma na aoao o Iehova; a wawahi iho la ia i na wahi kiekie, a me na kii no Asetarota ma Iuda.
And when his heart had taken courage because of the ways of the Lord, he now also took away the high places and the sacred groves from Judah.
7 A i ka makahiki ekolu o kona aupuni, hoouna aku la oia i na luna ona, ia Benehaila, a me Obadia, a me Zekaria, a me Nataneela, a me Mikaia, e ao aku iloko o na kulanakauhale o luda.
Then, in the third year of his reign, he sent Benhail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, from among his leaders, so that they might teach in the cites of Judah.
8 A me lakou pu kekahi poe Levi, o Semaia, a me Netanaia, a me Zebadaia, a me Asahela, a me Semiramota, a me Iehonatana, a me Adonia, a me Tobia, a me Tobaadonia, o na Levi ia; a me lakou pu o Elisama a me Iehorama, na kahuna.
And with them were the Levites Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah, and also Asahel and Shemiramoth and Jehonathan, and the Levites Adonijah and Tobijah and Tobadonijah. And with them were the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
9 A ao aku lakou ma Iuda, a lawe pu me lakou i ka buke o ke kanawai o Iehova, a hele lakou a puni na kulanakauhale a pau o luda, a ao aku i na kanaka.
And they were teaching the people in Judah, having with them the book of the law of the Lord. And they were traveling through all the cities of Judah, and were instructing the people.
10 Aia maluna o na aupuni a pau o na aina a puni o Iuda ka eehia ia Iehova, aole hoi i kaua mai lakou me Iehosapata.
And so, the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands which were around Judah. And they did not dare to make war against Jehoshaphat.
11 A o kekahi poe o Pilisetia, lawe mai la lakou io Iehosapata la i na makana, a me ke kala hookupu; a o ko Arabia no hoi kekahi, lawe mai la lakou ia ia i poe holoholona, i na hipa kane ehiku tausani, a me na haneri ehiku, a i na kao kane ehiku tausani a me na haneri ehiku.
Moreover, the Philistines carried gifts to Jehoshaphat, and a tribute in silver. Also, the Arabians brought cattle: seven thousand seven hundred rams, and the same number of he-goats.
12 A lilo iho la o Iehosapata i mea nui loa, a kukulu iho la ia i mau papu ma Iuda, a i mau kulanakauhale waiho ukana.
Therefore, Jehoshaphat increased and was magnified, even on high. And in Judah, he built houses in the likeness of towers, and walled cities.
13 A nui kana hana ma na kulanakauhale o Iuda, a nui hoi na kanaka kaua, ka poe ikaika ma Ierusalema.
And he prepared many works in the cities of Judah. Also, there were men experienced in warfare in Jerusalem,
14 Eia ka helu ana o lakou ma ka hale o ko lakou poe kupuna. No ka hale o Inda, o na luna tausani; o Adena ka luna, a o ka poe koa ikaika me ia, ekolu haneri tausani
and this is the number of them, by each of the houses and families. In Judah, the leader of the army was Adnah, the commander; and with him were three hundred thousand very experienced men.
15 A mahope ona, o Iehohanana, ka luna, a o ka poe me ia, elua haneri a me kanawalu tausani.
After him, Jehohanan was the leader; and with him were two hundred eighty thousand.
16 A mahope ona, o Amazia, ke keiki a Zikeri, ka mea hookauwa oluolu na Iehova; a o ka poe kanaka ikaika me ia, elua haneri tausani.
Also after him, there was Amasiah, the son of Zichri, who was consecrated to the Lord; and with him were two hundred thousand strong men.
17 No Beniamina, o Eliada he kanaka ikaika, a o ka poe me ia e lawe ana i ke kakaka, a me ka palekaua, elua haneri tausani.
Following him, there was Eliada, who was experienced in battle; and with him were two hundred thousand, holding bow and shield.
18 A mahope ona o lehozabada, a o ka poe me ia ka poe makaukau ma ke kaua, hookahi haneri me kanawalu tausani.
Then too, after him, there was Jehozabad; and with him were one hundred eighty thousand lightly-armed soldiers.
19 Oia ka poe lawelawe na ke alii, okoa ka poe a ke alii i waiho ai ma na kulanakauhale paa i ka pa ma Iuda a pau loa.
All these were at the hand of the king, aside from the others, whom he had positioned in the walled cities, in all of Judah.
