< I Oihanaalii 11 >
1 A LAILA akoakoa ae la ka Iseraela a pau io Davida la i Heberona, i mai la, Eia hoi, hookahi no ko kakou iwi a me ka io.
Then did all Israel gather themselves together to David, unto Hebron, saying, —Lo! thy bone and thy flesh, are we.
2 I ka wa mamua no hoi, ia Saula i alii ai, o oe no ka mea nana i alakai aku a i alakai mai i ka Iseraela: i mai la hoi o Iehova o kou Akua ia oe, E hanai oe i ko'u poe kanaka i ka Iseraela; a e lilo oe i alii no ko'u poe kanaka no ka Iseraela.
Moreover also, in time past even when Saul was king, thou, wast he that led out and brought in Israel, —and Yahweh thy God said unto thee, Thou, shalt shepherd my people Israel, Yea, thou, shalt be chief ruler, over my people Israel.
3 Nolaila, i hele mai na lunakahiko a pau o ka Iseraela i ke alii ma Heberona; a hoopaa iho la o Davida i berita me lakou ma Heberona, imua o Iehova: a poni iho la lakou ia Davida i alii no ka Iseraela, e like me ka olelo a Iehova ma o Samuela la.
Thus came all the elders of Israel unto the king, to Hebron, and David solemnised to them a covenant in Hebron, before Yahweh, —and they anointed David to be king over Israel, according to the word of Yahweh, through Samuel.
Then went David and all Israel to Jerusalem, the same, was Jebus, —where were the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land.
Aka, lawe lilo o Davida i ka pakaua o Ziona, oia ke kulanakauhale o Davida.
And the inhabitants of Jebus said unto David, Thou shalt not come in hither, —But David captured the citadel of Zion, the same, is the city of David.
6 I mai la o Davida, O ka mea pepehi mua i ka Iebusi, e lilo ia i pookela a i lunakoa. A o Ioaba, o ke keiki a Zeruia i pii mua aku la, a lilo ae la ia i pookela.
And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites, first, shall become a chief, and a ruler, —So then Joab son of Zeruiah, went up first, and became a chief.
And David dwelt in the citadel, —for this cause, did they call it, The City of David.
8 Kukulu iho la ia i ke kulanakauhale a puni, mai Milo aku a puni: a kukulu hou iho la o Ioaba i na wahi i koe o ke kulanakauhale.
And he built the city round about, from Millo even as far as the circuit, —but, Joab, suffered the remainder of the city to live.
9 Mahuahua ae la o Davida a nui loa: no ka mea, me ia pu o Iehova sabaota.
Thus did David wax greater and yet greater, —and, Yahweh of Hosts, was with him.
10 Eia hoi na pookela o na kanaka ikaika ia Davida, ka poe i hooikaika pu me ia iloko o kona aupuni a me ka Iseraela a pau, e hooalii ia ia, e like me ka olelo a Iehova no ka Iseraela.
Now, these, are the chiefs of the heroes, that pertained to David, who held strongly with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, —according to the word of Yahweh, concerning Israel.
11 Eia ka helu ana o na kanaka ikaika ia Davida: o Iasobeama ka Hakemoni, ke pookela o na lunakoa: hoaka ae la ia i kana ihe e ku e i na haneri kanaka ekolu, a make lakou i ka manawa hookahi.
And, this, is the number of the heroes who pertained to David, —Jashobeam son of a Hachmonite, chief of the thirty, the same, brandished his spear over three hundred—slain at one time.
12 Mahope iho ona o Eleazara ke keiki a Dodo ka Ahohi, kekahi o na kanaka ikaika loa ekolu.
And, after him, was Eleazar son of Dodai, the Ahohite, —he, was among the three heroes;
13 Aia no ia me Davida ma Padamima, ilaila i akoakoa ai ko Pilisetia i ke kaua, i kahi i paa pu ai ka honua i ka bale: a naholo aku la na kanaka imua o ko pilisetia.
he, was with David in Pas-dammim, where, the Philistines, were gathered together to battle, and there was a field-plot full of barley, —and, the people, fled, from before the Philistines;
14 A ku iho la lakou iwaena konu o ua aina la, a hoomalu iho la ia wahi, a pepehi iho la i ko Pilisetia; a hoola ae la o Iehova ia lakou i ke ola nui.
so they took their stand in the midst of the plot and rescued it, and smote the Philistines, —and Yahweh wrought a great victory.
And three of the thirty chiefs went down upon the rock, unto David, into the cave of Adullam, —a host of Philistines, being encamped in the vale of Rephaim.
16 Haila o Davida iloko o kahi paa, a ma Betolehema ka pakaua o ko Pilisetia ia manawa.
Now, David, then was in the stronghold, —and, a garrison of Philistines, then was in Bethlehem.
And David longed, and said—Who will give me to drink of the water, out of the well of Bethlehem, that is within the gate?
And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was within the gate, and bare it, and brought it in unto David, —yet would not David drink it, but poured it out unto Yahweh;
19 I aku la ia, E papa mai ko'u Akua ia'u. i ole au e hana ia mea: e inu no auei au i ke koko o keia mau kanaka, me ko lakou ola? no ka mea, me ke ola wale no lakou i lawe mai nei ia mea: nolaila, aole ia i make inu. Pela i hana'i ia mau kanaka ikaika loa ekolu.
and said—Far be it from me, of my God, that I should do this! The blood of these men, shall I drink, with their lives? For, with their lives, have they brought it! So he would not drink it. These things, did the three heroes.
20 A o Abisai ke kaikaina o Ioaba, oia ke pookela o na mea ekolu: no ka mea, hoaka ae la ia i kona ihe e ku e i na kanaka ekolu haneri, a pepehi iho la ia ia lakou, a loaa ia ia ka inoa iwaena o ua mau kanaka ikaika la ekolu.
And, Abishai brother of Joab—he, was the chief of three, he, having brandished his spear against three hundred—who were slain, —and so, he, had a name among three.
21 No na mea ekolu, ua oi aku kona koikoi imua o na mea elua, nolaila, oia ko laua luna: aka, aole i hiki aku kona e like me ko kela poe ekolu.
Of the three in the second rank, was he honourable, therefore became he their captain, —though, unto the [first] three, did he not attain.
22 O Benaia ke keiki a Iehoiada, ke keiki a kekahi kanaka ikaika no Kabezeela, he nui kana hana kupanaha: pepehi iho la ia i elua kanaka ikaika loa o Moaba: iho iho la hoi ia iloko o ka lua, a pepehi iho la i ka liona i ka la e haule ana ka hau.
Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, son of a man of valour, hero of many a deed, from Kabziel—he, smote the two [sons] of Ariel of Moab, he, also went down and smote a lion in the midst of a pit, in time of snow;
23 Pepehi iho la hoi oia i kekahi kanaka Aigupita, he kanaka nunui, he elima hailima ke kiekie: a he ihe no ma ka lima o ka Aigupita, e like me ka laau o ka mea ulana lole: a iho aku la kela io na la me ke kookoo, a kaili ae la i ka ihe mailoko ae o ka lima o ka Aigupita, a pepehi iho la ia ia me kana ihe.
he, also smote an Egyptian, a man of [great] stature, five cubits, and, in the hand of the Egyptian, was a spear like a weaver’s beam, so he went down unto him with a staff, —and wrested the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slew him with his spear.
24 O na mea keia a Benaia a ke keiki a Iehoiada i hana'i, a loaa ia ia ka inoa iwaena o ka poe kanaka ikaika ekolu.
These things, did Benaiah son of Jehoiada, so, he, had a name among three heroes.
25 Aia hoi, he koikoi no ia iwaena o ke kanakolu, aole hoi i hiki aku kona i ko kela poe ekolu. A hoonoho aku la o Davida ia ia i kuhina nona.
Among the thirty, lo! honourable, was he, but, unto the [first] three, did he not attain, —howbeit David set him over his council.
