< Jeremi 4 >
1 “Si ou va retounen, O Israël”, deklare SENYÈ a, “si ou va retounen kote Mwen, e si ou va retire bagay abominab ou yo devan prezans Mwen; konsa, ou p ap deplase.
If thou wilt return, O Israel, Declareth Yahweh, Unto me, mayst thou return, —And if thou wilt remove thine abominations from before me, Then shalt thou not become a wanderer.
2 Si ou va sèmante: ‘Kon SENYÈ a vivan an’, anverite, ak jistis, e nan ladwati; konsa, nasyon yo va beni tèt yo nan Li, e nan Li yo va gen glwa.”
If thou wilt swear, By the life of Yahweh! in faithfulness in justice and in righteousness, Then shall the nations bless themselves in him, And, in him, shall they glory.
3 Paske se konsa SENYÈ a pale a mesye a Juda ak Jérusalem yo: “Kraze e prepare tè ki poze a; pa simen pami pikan yo.
For thus saith Yahweh Unto the men of Judah and unto Jerusalem, Till ye the untilled ground, —And do not sow among thorns.
4 Sikonsi tèt nou a SENYÈ a e retire prepuce kè nou, mesye Juda yo, ak sila ki rete Jérusalem yo, sinon kòlè Mwen va vin parèt tankou dife e brile pou okenn moun pa ka tenyen l, akoz mechanste a zèv nou yo.
Circumcise yourselves unto Yahweh So shall ye remove the impurity of your heart, ye men of Judah and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, —Lest mine indignation, go forth as fire, and burn and there be none to quench it, Because of the wickedness of your doings.
5 Deklare nan Juda e pwoklame nan Jérusalem, pou di: ‘Soufle twonpèt nan peyi a!’ Kriye fò! Di yo: ‘Rasanble nou pou nou antre nan vil fòtifye yo.’
Declare ye in Judah And in Jerusalem, let it be heard, And say, Blow ye a horn in the land, —Cry, with frill voice And say, Gather yourselves together, And let us enter the defenced cities.
6 Leve yon drapo vè Sion! Chache sekou! Pa kanpe anplas, paske Mwen ap mennen malè sòti nan nò, ak gwo destriksyon.”
Lift up an ensign—Zion-ward, Bring into safety, do not tarry, —For, calamity, am, I, bringing in from the North, Even, a great destruction:
7 Yon lyon ale soti nan rak bwa li; yon destriktè a nasyon yo gen tan derape. Li fin kite plas li pou fè peyi ou a vin yon savann. Vil ou yo va pil mazi ki san moun pou rete ladan yo.
There hath come up a lion out of his thicket, Yea, a destroyer of nations—hath set forward, hath come forth out of his place, —To make thy land a desolation, Thy cities, shall fall in ruins, so as to have no inhabitant.
8 Pou sa, abiye an twal sak! Rele fò! Kriye anmwey! Paske gwo kòlè SENYÈ a pa t kite nou.
On this account, gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl, —Because the glow of the anger of Yahweh hath not turned from us.
9 “Li va vin rive nan jou sa a,” deklare SENYÈ a: “ke kè a wa a ak kè prens yo va fè fayit. Prèt yo va sezi e pwofèt yo va etone.”
And it shall come to pass, in that day, Declareth Yahweh, That the courage of the king shall fail, And the courage of the princes, —And the priests shall be astonished, And, the prophets, shall be amazed.
Men alò, yon nepe parèt sou gòj yo.”
Then said I, —Ah! My Lord Yahweh! Surely, thou hast suffered this people and Jerusalem to be beguiled, saying, Peace, shall ye have, —whereas the sword shall reach unto the soul.
11 Nan lè sa a, li va pale a pèp sa a, e a Jérusalem: “Yon van sechrès ki sòti nan mòn sèk nan dezè a, nan direksyon fi a pèp Mwen an—— li pa pou vannen ni pou netwaye.
At that time, shall it be said of this people and of Jerusalem, —The sharp wind of the bare heights in the desert, cometh towards the daughter of my people, —not to winnow nor to cleanse.
12 Yon van fò depase sa a——va vini sou lòd Mwen. Alò, anplis Mwen va pwononse jijman kont yo.”
A wind too strong for these, cometh in for me. Now, will, I also, pronounce sentences upon them:
13 Gade byen, li monte tankou nwaj, e cha lagè li yo kon toubiyon. Cheval li yo pi vit ke èg. Malè a nou menm, paske nou vin detwi nèt!
Lo! like clouds, shall he come up, Even as a storm-wind, his chariots, Swifter than eagles, his horses, —Woe to us for we are laid waste!
Wash from wickedness thy heart, O Jerusalem, That thou mayest be saved, —How long, shall lodge within thee thy wicked devices?
15 Paske yon vwa deklare soti Dan e pwoklame mechanste soti mòn Éphraïm.
For a voice, declareth from Dan, —And publisheth trouble from the hill country of Ephraim.
16 “Livre rapò li bay nasyon yo koulye a! Pwoklame sou Jérusalem, ‘Moun syèj yo sòti nan yon peyi lwen! Yo leve vwa yo kontra vil Juda yo.
Put ye in mind the nations Lo! publish ye against Jerusalem, Blockaders! are coming in from a land afar off, —And have uttered against the cities of Judah their voice:
17 Tankou gadyen k ap veye yon chan an, yo kont li toupatou, akoz li te fè rebèl kont Mwen’”, deklare SENYÈ a.
As the keepers of a field, have they come against her round about, —For against me, hath she rebelled, Declareth Yahweh.
18 “Chemen pa ou yo ak zèv pa ou yo te mennen fè bagay sa yo rive ou. Sa se mal ou. Li amè anpil! A la sa rive jis nan kè ou!”
Thine own way And thine own doings, Have done these things unto thee, —This thy wickedness, Surely it is bitter, Surely it hath reached unto thy heart.
19 Nanm mwen, nanm mwen! Mwen nan gwo soufrans!
My bowels! My bowels! I am pained in the walls of my heart My heart beateth aloud to me I cannot be still! For the sound of a horn, hast thou heard O my soul, The loud shout of war!
20 Dega sou dega vin pwoklame, paske tout peyi a fin detwi nèt. Sibitman, tant mwen yo vin devaste; rido mwen yo vin devaste nan yon moman.
Breach upon breach, they cry, For ruined, is all the land, —Suddenly, are ruined my tents, In a moment, my curtains!
How long shall I keep on seeing a standard, —continue to hear the sound of a horn?
22 “Paske, pèp mwen an rete nan foli. Yo pa rekonèt Mwen. Yo se timoun sòt ki pa gen konprann. Yo koken nan fè mal, men pou fè sa ki bon, yo pa konnen.”
Surely, perverse, is my people Me, have they not known, Foolish sons, they are, Yea without understanding, they are: Wise, they are to commit wickedness, But how to do well, they know not!
23 Mwen te gade sou tè a e, gade byen, li te san fòm e vid; vè syèl yo men yo pa t gen limyè.
I beheld, The earth; and lo! it was waste and wild, —The heavens also and their light was not:
24 Mwen te gade vè mòn yo, e gade byen, yo t ap souke; tout kolin yo te fè mouvman ale retou.
I beheld, The mountains, and lo! they were trembling, —And all the hills, had been violently moved:
25 Mwen te gade, e gade byen, pa t gen moun, e tout zwazo syèl yo te vin sove ale.
I beheld, And lo! there was no human being, —Yea, all the birds of the heavens! had fled:
26 Mwen te gade e gade byen, bon peyi fètil la te vin yon dezè, e tout vil li yo te fin demoli devan SENYÈ a, devan gwo kòlè Li.
I beheld, And lo! the garden-land, was a desert, —And, all its cities, had been broken down, Because of Yahweh, Because of the glow of his anger!
27 Paske konsa pale SENYÈ a: “Tout peyi a va dezole; malgre, Mwen p ap fin detwi li nèt.
For, thus, saith Yahweh, A desolation, shall all the land become—Nevertheless a full end, will I not make.
For this cause, shall the land mourn, and the heavens above be overcast: Because I have spoken have purposed, and have not repented nor will I turn back therefrom.
29 Ak bri chevalye a, ak mèt banza yo, tout vil yo vin sove ale. Yo antre nan gran rak bwa, e yo monte sou wòch yo. Tout vil yo vin abandone e nanpwen pèsòn ki rete ladan yo.
At the noise of horseman and archer, The whole city is in flight, They have entered dark thickets, Yea unto the crags, have they gone up, —Every city, is forsaken, There remaineth not in them a man!
And when, thou, art laid waste, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothe thyself with crimson Though thou deck thyself with ornaments of gold Though thou enlarge with antimony thine eyes, In vain, shalt thou make thyself fair, —Paramours have rejected thee, Thy life, will they seek!
31 Paske mwen te tande kri yon fanm nan doulè l; doulè a yon fanm k ap fè premye pitit, kri fi a Sion an, k ap soufle fò, lonje men l e rele, “Anmwey! Mwen pedi kouraj nèt devan asasen yo.”
For a voice as of a woman in pangs, have I heard Anguish as of her that is bearing her firstborn. The voice of the daughter of Zion! She gaspeth for breath, She spreadeth forth her palms, —Surely woe to me! For my soul fainteth before murderers.
