< Deteronòm 9 >
1 “Koute O Israël! Nou travèse lòtbò Jourdain an jodi a pou antre nan peyi a, e pou deplase nasyon ki pi gran e pi pwisan ke nou yo; gran vil yo byen fòtifye jis rive nan syèl yo.
Listen, people of Israel! Shortly you're going to cross the Jordan to enter and take over the country from nations that are larger and stronger than you, that have large towns with walls that reach up into the sky.
2 Yon pèp ki gran e wo, fis a Anak yo jeyan yo, ke nou konnen e te tande yo di: ‘Kilès ki kab kanpe devan fis Anak yo?’
The people are strong and tall; they are the descendants of the Anakim. You all know about them and you have heard the saying, “Who could ever defeat the sons of Anak?”
3 Pou sa, konnen ke jodi a, se SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an, ki ap travèse devan nou tankou yon dife devoran. Li va detwi yo e Li va donte yo devan nou pou nou kapab chase yo sòti e detwi yo byen vit, jis jan ke SENYÈ a te pale nou an.
But you should realize that today the Lord your God is going across ahead of you. He is like a consuming fire; he will destroy them and defeat them ahead of you. You will drive them out and quickly wipe them out, just as the Lord promised you.
4 “Pa di nan kè nou, lè SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an, fin chase yo deyò devan nou, ‘Se akoz ladwati mwen, SENYÈ a te mennen mwen antre pou posede peyi sa a.’ Paske se akoz mechanste a nasyon sila yo ke SENYÈ a ap fè yo deplase devan nou.
When the Lord your God has driven them out ahead of you, don't think to yourselves, “It's because I'm such a good person that the Lord has brought me here to take over this land.” No, the Lord is driving out these nations ahead of you because of they're so wicked.
5 Se pa akoz ladwati nou, ni kè dwat nou, ki fè nou ap vin posede peyi a, men akoz mechanste a nasyon sila yo ke SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an, ap chase yo devan nou, e pou konfime pawòl la ke SENYÈ a te fè avèk zansèt nou yo, Abraham, Isaac, ak Jacob.
It's not because you're so good or moral that you are going to take over their land. No, it's because of their wickedness that the Lord your God is driving out these nations ahead of you, to keep the promise he made to your fathers—m to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
6 “Pou sa, byen konnen ke se pa akoz ladwati nou ke SENYÈ a ap bannou bon peyi sa a pou posede, paske nou se yon pèp tèt di.
You'd better believe that it's not because you're such good people that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to own, because you are stubborn, hard-hearted people.
7 “Sonje, pa bliye jan nou te pwovoke SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an, a lakòlè nan dezè a. Depi jou ke nou te kite peyi Égypte la jiskaske lè nou te rive nan kote sa a, nou tap fè rebèl kont SENYÈ a.
Remember how you provoked the Lord your God in the desert! Don't ever forget it! From the time you left the land of Egypt until you arrived here, you've been constantly rebelling against the Lord.
8 Menm nan Horeb, nou te pwovoke SENYÈ a lakòlè. SENYÈ a te tèlman fache avèk nou ke Li te prèt pou detwi nou.
At Horeb you provoked the Lord, making him so angry he was about to destroy you.
9 “Lè mwen te monte nan mòn nan pou resevwa tablo wòch yo, tablo akò ke SENYÈ a te fè avèk nou an, alò, mwen te rete sou mòn nan pandan karant jou ak karant nwit. Mwen pa t manje pen ni bwè dlo.
This was when I climbed up the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets that recorded agreement the Lord made with you. I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, and I didn't eat or drink anything.
10 SENYÈ a te ban mwen de tab wòch ki te ekri ak dwèt Bondye. Sou yo te tout pawòl ke SENYÈ a te pale avèk nou nan mòn nan, nan mitan dife a nan jou asanble a.
The Lord gave me the two stone tablets on which he'd written with his finger everything he'd told you when he spoke from the fire on the mountain when we were all assembled there.
11 “Li te vin rive nan fen karant jou ak karant nwit yo, ke SENYÈ a te ban mwen de tablo wòch, tab akò yo.
After forty days and forty nights, the Lord gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the agreement.
12 Alò, SENYÈ a te di mwen: ‘Leve, desann soti isit la byen vit, paske pèp ou a ke nou te fè sòti an Égypte la te vin konwonpi. Yo te vire akote chemen ke Mwen te kòmande a. Yo te fè yon imaj fonn pou kont yo!’
The Lord told me, “Hurry! Go down immediately, because your people that you led out of Egypt, are committing a terrible sin. They have disobeyed what I told them so quickly! They have made themselves an idol using molten metal.”
13 “SENYÈ a te pale plis avè m e te di: ‘Mwen te wè pèp sa a, vrèman, li se yon pèp ki di.
The Lord also told me, “I have been watching these people, and they really are a stubborn and hard-hearted.
14 Kite Mwen sèl pou M kapab detwi yo, e efase non yo soti anba syèl la; Mwen va fè a ou menm yon nasyon pi pwisan e pi gran ke yo.’
Leave me, so that I can destroy them and wipe out their name completely. Then I will turn you into a nation even more powerful and more important than them.”
15 “Epi mwen te vire desann mòn nan pandan mòn nan t ap brile avèk dife a, ak de tab akò yo nan de men m yo.
I went back down the mountain while it was still on fire, carrying the two tablets of the agreement.
16 Epi konsa, mwen te wè ke vrèman, nou te peche kont SENYÈ a Bondye nou an. Nou te fè pou nou menm yon ti bèf fonn. Nou te vire detounen byen vit kite chemen ke SENYÈ a te kòmande nou an.
Then I saw how much you had sinned against the Lord your God by making for yourselves a molten calf. You had disobeyed what the Lord had told you so quickly.
17 Mwen te pran de tab sa yo; mwen te jete yo sòti nan men m, e te kraze yo devan zye nou.
I threw the two tablets down, smashing them to pieces as you watched.
18 “Mwen te tonbe ba devan SENYÈ a, yon fwa ankò. Pandan karant jou ak karant nwit mwen pa t manje pen ni bwè dlo akoz tout peche ke nou te fè nan fè sa ki mal nan zye SENYÈ a, pou pwovoke Li a lakòlè.
Then I lay down on the ground before the Lord for forty days and forty nights, just as I had before. I didn't eat or drink anything because of all the sins you had committed by doing what was evil in the Lord's sight, making him angry.
19 Paske Mwen te pè lakòlè ak chalè mekontantman avèk sila SENYÈ a te fache kont nou pou L te kapab detwi nou an. Men SENYÈ a te koute mwen fwa sa a tou.
I was terrified at how angry and furious the Lord was with you. He was ready to destroy you. But once again the Lord listened to me.
20 “SENYÈ a te ase fache avèk Aaron pou detwi li. Konsa, mwen te priye anplis pou Aaron nan menm lè sa a.
The Lord was so angry with Aaron he was ready to destroy him, but right then I prayed for Aaron too.
I took that abominable thing, the calf you'd made, and burned it. Then I crushed it up and ground it into dust, and I threw it into the stream that descended from the mountain.
22 “Ankò, nan Tabeéra, nan Massa, ak nan Kibroth-Hattaava, nou te pwovoke SENYÈ a lakòlè.
But you went on provoking the Lord at Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah.
23 Lè SENYÈ a te voye nou soti Kadés-Barnéa, Li te di: ‘Ale monte pou posede tè ke mwen te bannou an.’ Men nou te fè rebèl kont kòmand SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an. Nou pa t kwè Li, ni koute vwa Li.
When the Lord had you leave Kadesh-barnea, he told you, “Go and take over the country that I've given you.” But you defied the command of the Lord your God. You didn't believe him and you didn't obey him.
24 Nou te fè rebèl kont SENYÈ a depi jou ke m te konnen nou an.
You have been rebelling against the Lord from the day I first knew you.
25 “Konsa, mwen te vin tonbe devan SENYÈ a pandan karant jou ak karant nwit, ke m te tonbe a, akoz SENYÈ a te di Li t ap detwi nou.
So I lay down on the ground before the Lord for forty days and forty nights, because the Lord had threatened to destroy you.
26 Mwen te priye a SENYÈ a e mwen te di: ‘O SENYÈ a, pa detwi pèp Ou a, eritaj Ou menm nan, ke Ou te peye ranson selon grandè Ou, pou Ou te mennen sòti an Égypte avèk yon men pwisan.
I prayed to the Lord, saying, “Please Lord, God, don't destroy your people that belong to you, the ones whom you rescued by your great ability and led out of Egypt by your power.
27 “Sonje sèvitè Ou yo, Abraham, Isaac, ak Jacob. Pa gade rebelyon a pèp sila a, ni sou mechanste yo oswa peche yo.
Please remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Please disregard the stubbornness of this people and their wicked sin.
28 Otreman, peyi kote Ou te mennen nou sòti a, kapab di: ‘Akoz SENYÈ a pa t kapab mennen yo antre nan peyi ke Li te pwomèt yo a, e akoz Li te rayi yo, Li te mennen yo deyò pou touye yo nan dezè a.’
If you don't, those people back in Egypt will say, ‘The Lord brought them out to kill them in the desert because he couldn't take them to the land he'd promised them, and because he hated them.’
29 Men se pèp Ou yo ye, eritaj Ou menm, ke Ou te mennen sòti pa gran pouvwa avèk bra lonje.”
But they are your people, Lord! They belong to you! You led them out of Egypt by your amazing power and might!”
