< Deteronòm 20 >
1 “Lè nou ale fè batay kont lènmi nou yo, nou wè cheval avèk cha ak pèp ki plis pase nou, pa pè yo; paske SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an, ki te fè nou sòti kite peyi Égypte la, avèk nou.
And if you should go forth to war against your enemies, and should see horse, and rider, and a people more numerous than yourself; you shall not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God [is] with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
2 Lè nou ap pwoche batay la, prèt la va pwoche pou pale avèk pèp la.
And it shall come to pass whenever you shall draw near to battle, that the priest shall draw near and speak to the people, and shall say to them,
3 Li va di yo: ‘Tande O Israël, n ap pwoche batay la kont lènmi nou yo jodi a. Pa fè kè sote. Pa pè, ni pa sezi, ni tranble devan yo,
Hear, O Israel; you are going this day to battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint, fear not, neither be confounded, neither turn aside from their face.
4 paske se SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an, ki prale avèk nou, pou goumen pou nou kont lènmi nou yo, pou sove nou.’
For [it is] the Lord your God who advances with you, to fight with you against your enemies, [and] to save you.
5 “Ofisye militè yo, osi, va pale avèk pèp la, e di: ‘Se kilès nan mesye yo ki te bati yon kay tounèf e ki poko etabli ladann? Kite li sòti retounen lakay li. Otreman, li kab mouri nan batay la, e yon lòt va vin etabli ladann.
And the scribes shall speak to the people, saying, What man [is] he that has built a new house, and has not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the war, and another man dedicate it.
6 Kilès nan mesye yo ki te plante yon chan rezen e ki poko sèvi nan fwi li? Kite li sòti retounen lakay li. Otreman, li kapab mouri nan batay la e yon lòt moun va vin sèvi nan fwi li a.
And what man [is] he that has planted a vineyard, and not been made merry with it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man be made merry with it.
7 Epi kilès nan mesye yo ki fiyanse a yon fi e ki poko marye avè l? Kite li sòti retounen lakay li. Otreman, li kapab mouri nan batay la e yon lòt mesye kapab vin marye avè l.’
And what man [is] he that has betrothed a wife, and has not taken her? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.
8 “Konsa, ofisye yo va pale plis avèk pèp la pou di: ‘Kilès nan mesye yo ki gen laperèz oswa ki manke gen kouraj? Kite li sòti retounen lakay li pou li pa fè kè frè li yo fann tankou kè pa li.’
And the scribes shall speak further to the people, and say, What man [is] he that fears and is cowardly in his heart? Let him go and return to his house, lest he make the heart of his brother fail, as his own.
9 Lè ofisye yo fin pale ak pèp la, yo va chwazi kòmandan lame yo kòm chèf an tèt pèp la.
And it shall come to pass when the scribes shall have ceased speaking to the people, that they shall appoint generals of the army to be leaders of the people.
10 “Lè nou pwoche yon vil pou goumen kont li, nou va ofri li kondisyon lapè.
And if you shall draw near to a city to overcome them by war, then call them out peaceably.
11 Si li dakò pou fè lapè avèk nou e louvri pou nou; alò, tout pèp ki ladann yo va devni fòs travay kòve nou, e va sèvi nou.
If then they should answer peaceably to you, and open to you, it shall be that all the people found in it shall be tributary and subject to you.
12 Men si li pa fè lapè avèk nou, men fè lagè kont nou, alò, nou va fè syèj kont li.
But if they will not listen to you, but wage war against you, you shall invest it;
13 “Lè SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an, livre li nan men nou, nou va frape tout mesye yo avèk lam nepe.
until the Lord your God shall deliver it into your hands, and you shall strike every male of it with the edge of the sword:
14 Sèlman fanm avèk pitit avèk bèt avèk tout piyaj la, nou va pran kòm byen ki sezi pou kont nou. Nou gen dwa sèvi piyaj lènmi nou yo ke SENYÈ a te bannou.
except the women and the stuff: and all the cattle, and whatever shall be in the city, and all the plunder you shall take as spoil for yourself, and shall eat all the plunder of your enemies whom the Lord your God gives you.
15 “Konsa, nou va fè a tout vil ki lwen nou yo, ki pa pati nan vil a nasyon ki toupre yo.
Thus shall you do to all the cities that are very far off from you, not [being] of the cities of these nations which the Lord your God gives you to inherit their land.
16 “Sèlman, nan vil a pèp sa yo ke SENYÈ Bondye nou an, ap bannou kòm eritaj la, nou pa pou kite anyen viv ki respire.
[Of these] you shall not take any thing alive;
17 Nou va detwi yo nèt; Etyen yo, Amoreyen yo, Kanaaneyen yo, Ferezyen yo, Evyen yo, ak Jebizyen yo, jan SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an, te kòmande nou an,
but you shall surely curse them, the Chettite, and the Amorite, and the Chananite, and the Pherezite, and the Evite, and the Jebusite, and the Gergesite; as the Lord your God commanded you:
18 jis pou yo pa vin enstwi nou selon tout bagay abominab ke yo te fè pou dye pa yo, pou nou vin peche kont SENYÈ a, Bondye nou an.
that they may not teach you to do all their abominations, which they did to their gods, and [so] you should sin before the Lord your God.
19 “Lè nou fè syèj yon vil pandan anpil tan, pou fè lagè kont li pou nou kapab pran li an kaptivite, nou pa pou detwi pyebwa li yo nan voye rach sou yo; pou nou kapab manje nan yo, e nou pa pou koupe yo. Paske èske pyebwa chan an se yon moun, ke nou ta dwe fè syèj ladann?
And if you should besiege a city many days to prevail against it by war to take it, you shall not destroy its trees, by applying an iron tool to them, but you shall eat of it, and shall not cut it down: Is the tree that is in the field a man, to enter before you into the work of the siege?
20 Sèlman bwa ke nou konnen ki pa bay fwi yo, nou va detwi yo e koupe yo, pou nou kapab konstwi syèj yo kont vil ki kont nou an, jiskaske l fin tonbe.
But the tree which you know to be not fruit-bearing, this you shall destroy and cut down; and you shall construct a mound against the city, which makes war against you, until it be delivered up.
