< 1 Samyèl 31 >
1 Alò Filisten yo t ap goumen kont Israël e mesye Israël yo te kouri devan Filisten yo, e yo te tonbe mouri sou Mòn Guilboa.
Meanwhile the Philistines had attacked Israel, and the Israelite army ran away from them, and many were killed on Mount Gilboa.
2 Filisten yo te rive sou Saül avèk fis li yo. Konsa, yo te touye Jonathan avèk Abinadab, ak Malkishua, fis a Saül yo.
The Philistines chased down Saul and his sons, killing Saul's sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.
3 Batay la te vire rèd kont Saül. Ekip tire flèch ak banza yo te rive sou li; epi li te gravman blese pa ekip banza yo.
The fighting became very intense around Saul, and the arrows of the Philistine archers found their target, wounding Saul very badly.
4 Konsa, Saül te di a pòtè zam li an: “Rale nepe ou pou frennen m avè l; otreman, Filisten ensikonsi sila yo va vin frennen m nèt e fè spò avè m.” Men pòtè zam nan te refize, paske li te pè anpil. Pou sa Saül te pran nepe li e te tonbe sou li.
Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Take your sword and kill me, or these heathen men will come and kill and torture me!” But the armor-bearer didn't want to do it because he was too afraid. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
5 Lè pòtè zam nan te wè ke Saül te mouri avèk twa fis li yo, li tou te tonbe sou nepe li pou te mouri avèk li.
When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his own sword and died with him.
6 Konsa Saül te mouri avèk twa fis li yo, pòtè zam li an, ak tout mesye pa l yo ansanm nan jou sa a.
Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all the men with him, died the same day.
When the Israelites who lived along the valley and those on the other side of the Jordan realized that the Israelite army had run away, and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their cities and they also ran away. So the Philistines came and took them over.
8 Li te vin rive nan pwochen jou a, lè Filisten yo te vini pou depouye mò yo, ke yo te twouve Saül avèk twa fis li yo tonbe sou Mòn Guilboa.
The next day, when the Philistines went to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons lying on Mount Gilboa.
9 Yo te koupe tèt li e te retire zam li yo pou te voye yo toupatou nan peyi Filisten yo, pou pote bòn nouvèl la rive lakay zidòl pa yo ak pèp yo a.
They cut off Saul's head, stripped him of his armor, and sent messengers throughout the country of the Philistines to announce the news in the temples of their idols and to their people.
10 Yo te mete zam li yo nan tanp Astarté yo e yo te tache kadav li nan miray kote Beth-Schan nan.
They placed his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths, and nailed his body to the town wall of Beth-shan.
11 Alò, lè moun ki te rete Jabès yo te tande sa ke Filisten yo te fè a Saül,
However, when the people of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 tout mesye vanyan yo te leve mache tout nwit lan pou te pran kò Saül la avèk kò a fis pa li yo soti nan miray Beth-Schan lan. Lè yo te rive Jabès yo te brile yo la.
all their strong warriors set out, traveled all night, and took down the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. When they got back to Jabesh, they burned the bodies there.
13 Yo te pran zo yo e te antere yo anba pye tamaren Jabès la e yo te fè jèn pandan sèt jou.
Then they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and fasted for seven days.
