< 1 Wa 1 >

1 Alò, Wa David te vin vye, avanse nan laj. Malgre yo te kouvri li avèk rad, li te toujou fwèt.
Now king David was old, stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he could not become warm.
2 Konsa, sèvitè li yo te di li: “Kite yo chache yon jenn fi vyèj pou wa a, mèt mwen an, e kite li okipe wa a pou devni enfimyè li. Epi kite li kouche nan sen li pou wa a, mèt mwen an, pou li kapab chofe kò li.”
Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let them seek out for my lord the king a young virgin, and let her stand before the king, and let her be an attendant on him; and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may become warm.
3 Konsa, yo te chache toupatou yon bèl fi nan tout teritwa Israël la, yo te twouve Abischag, Sinamit lan, e yo te mennen li kote wa a.
So they sought for a fair maiden throughout all the territory of Israel; and they found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
4 Fi a te byen bèl. Li te devni enfimyè a wa a pou te okipe li, men wa a pa t antre nan relasyon avèk li.
And the maiden was exceedingly fair; and she became an attendant on the king, and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.
5 Alò, Adonija, fis a Haggith la te vin vante tèt li. Li te di: “Mwen va devni wa.” Konsa, li te prepare pou li menm cha avèk chevalye avèk senkant òm pou te kouri devan l.
And Adoniyah the son of Chaggith exalted himself, saying, I shall be king: and he procured himself a chariot and horsemen, and fifty men who ran before him.
And his father had never grieved him in all his life by saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was of a very goodly form; and his mother had born him after Abshalom.
7 Li te fè tèt a tèt ansanm avèk Joab, fis a Tseruja a, avèk Abiathar, prèt la; epi yo te swiv Adonija pou te ede li.
And he had conferences with Joab the son of Zeruyah, and with Ebyathar the priest: and they, following Adoniyah, helped him.
8 Men Tsadok, prèt la, Benaja, fis a Jehojada a, Nathan, pwofèt la, Schimeï, Réï, ak mesye vanyan ki te apatyen a David yo, pa t avèk Adonija.
But Zadok the priest, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and Nathan the prophet, and Shim'i, and Re'i, and the mighty men that belonged to David, were not with Adoniyah.
9 Adonija te fè sakrifis mouton avèk bèf ak bèt gra kote wòch a Zohéleth la, ki akote En-Rouguel. Li te envite tout frè li yo, fis a wa yo ak tout mesye pwisan Juda yo, sèvitè a wa yo.
And Adoniyah slaughtered sheep and oxen and fatted cattle by the stone Zocheleth, which is by 'En-rogel; and he invited all his brothers the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants;
But Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he invited not.
And Nathan spoke unto Bath-sheba' the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adoniyah the son of Chaggith is become king, and [that] David our lord knoweth it not?
And now come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thy own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
13 Antre koulye a, kote Wa David e di li: ‘Mèt mwen, O Wa a, èske ou pa t sèmante a sèvant ou an, e te di: “Anverite Salomon, fis ou a va wa apre mwen, e li va chita sou twòn mwen an”? Poukisa konsa, Adonija gen tan vin wa a?’
Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thy hand-maid, saying, Assuredly, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and only he shall sit upon my throne? why then is Adoniyah become king?
And, lo, while thou shalt be yet speaking there with the king, I myself will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.
15 Konsa, Bath-Schéba te antre kote wa a nan chanm dòmi an. Alò, wa a te byen vye, epi Abischag, Sinamit lan, t ap okipe wa a.
And Bath-sheba' went in unto the king into the chamber, and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering unto the king.
16 Bath-Schéba te bese kouche nèt atè devan wa a. Epi wa a te di: “Se kisa ke ou vle?”
And Bath-sheba' bowed, and prostrated herself unto the king: and the king said, What wouldst thou?
17 Li te di li: “Mèt mwen, ou te sèmante a sèvant ou a pa SENYÈ a, Bondye ou a, ke: Anverite fis ou a, Salomon va devni wa apre mwen, e li va chita sou twòn mwen an.”
And she said unto him, My lord, thou thyself didst swear by the Lord thy God unto thy hand-maid, Assuredly, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and only he shall sit upon my throne.
Epi koulye a, mèt mwen an, wa a, ou pa menm konnen.
And now, behold, Adoniyah is become king; and now, my lord, O king, thou knowest it not:
19 Li gen tan fè sakrifis bèf avèk bèt gra ak mouton an gran kantite, e li te envite tout fis a wa yo avèk Abiathar, prèt la, avèk Joab, chèf lame a, men li pa t envite Salomon, sèvitè ou a.
And he hath slaughtered oxen and fatted cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath invited all the sons of the king, and Ebyathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the army; but Solomon thy servant hath he not invited.
20 Epi koulye a, pou ou menm, mèt, wa a, zye a tout Israël ap gade ou, pou di yo se kilès k ap chita sou twòn a mèt mwen an, wa a, apre li.
And as for thee, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, to tell them, who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
21 Otreman, li va vin rive ke depi mèt mwen an, wa a, vin dòmi avèk zansèt li yo, pou mwen avèk fis mwen an, Salomon va vin konsidere kòm koupab.”
Otherwise it would come to pass, when my lord the king sleepeth with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon may be counted offenders.
22 Epi gade, pandan li te toujou ap pale, Nathan, pwofèt la te vin antre.
And, lo, while she was yet speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.
23 Yo te pale wa a, e te di: “Men Nathan, pwofèt la.” Konsa, lè l te antre devan wa a, li te pwostène kò l devan wa a avèk figi li atè.
And they told the king, saying, Behold, here is Nathan the prophet: and when he was come in before the king, he prostrated himself before the king with his face to the ground.
24 Nathan te di: “Mèt mwen, wa a, èske ou te di: ‘Adonaja va wa apre mwen e li va chita sou twòn mwen an’?
And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou then said, Adoniyah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?
25 Paske li te desann jodi a pou te fè sakrifis bèf avèk bèt gra, ak mouton an gran kantite, e li te envite tout fis a wa yo avèk chèf lame a, avèk Abiathar, prèt la. Men vwala, y ap manje bwè devan li, epi yo di: ‘Viv wa Adonija!’
For he is gone down this day, and hath slaughtered oxen and fatted cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath invited all the king's sons, and the captains of the army, and Ebyathar the priest: and, behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and they say, Long live king Adoniyah.
26 Men mwen menm, sèvitè ou a, avèk Tsadok, prèt la ak Benaja, fis a Jehojada a, e sèvitè ou a, Salomon, li pa t envite nou.
But as for me, me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and thy servant Solomon, hath he not invited.
27 Èske bagay sa a te fèt pa mèt mwen an, wa a? Èske ou pa t montre sèvitè ou yo kilès ki ta dwe chita sou twòn a mèt mwen an, wa a, apre li?”
Can it be that this hath been done by order of my lord the king, and thou hast not informed thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
28 Konsa, Wa David te reponn: “Rele Bath-Schéba vin kote m”. Li te parèt nan prezans a wa a e li te kanpe devan wa a.
Then answered king David, and said, Call me Bath-sheba'; and she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.
And the king swore and said, As the Lord liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,
30 anverite, jan mwen te sèmante a ou menm pa SENYÈ a, Bondye a Israël la, e te di: ‘Fis ou a, Salomon va devni wa a apre mwen. Li va chita sou twòn mwen an nan plas mwen’. Mwen va, anverite, fè sa menm jodi a.”
Even as I have sworn unto thee by the Lord the God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and only he shall sit upon my throne in my stead: even so will I certainly do this day.
31 Bath-Schéba te bese avèk figi li atè devan wa a. Li te di: “Ke mèt mwen an, Wa David, viv pou tout tan.”
Then did Bath-sheba' bow herself with her face to the earth, and prostrate herself unto the king; and she said, May my lord, the king David, live for ever!
32 Alò, Wa David te di: “Rele vin kote m Tsadok, prèt la, Nathan, pwofèt la, ak Benaja, fis a Jehojada a.” Epi yo te vini nan prezans a wa a.
And king David said, Call unto me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada'. And they came before the king.
33 Wa a te di yo: “Pran avèk ou sèvitè a mèt ou yo, e fè fis mwen an, Salomon, monte sou milèt pa m nan pou l mennen anba nan Guihon.
And the king said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon my own mule, and conduct him down to Gichon:
34 Kite Tsadok, prèt la ak Nathan, pwofèt la onksyone li la kòm wa sou Israël. Soufle twonpèt la e di: ‘Viv wa a, Salomon!’
And let Zadok the priest with Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel; and blow ye with the cornet, and say, Long live king Solomon.
35 Alò, ou va vin monte apre li. Li va vin chita sou twòn mwen an e li va vin wa nan plas mwen. Paske mwen te chwazi li pou renye sou Israël avèk Juda.”
Then shall ye go up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my throne; and he shall be king in my stead: and him have I ordained to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.
36 Benaja, fis a Jehojada a te reponn wa a. Li te di: “Amen!” Kite se konsa ke SENYÈ a, Bondye a mèt mwen an, pale.
And Benayahu the son of Yehoyada' answered the king, and said, Amen: May thus say the Eternal the God of my lord the king.
37 Jan SENYÈ a te avèk mèt mwen an, wa a, konsa ke li kapab avèk Salomon e fè twòn li an pi gran ke twòn a mèt mwen an, Wa David!
As the Eternal hath been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and may he make his throne greater than the throne of my lord the king David.
38 Konsa Tsadok, prèt la, Nathan, pwofèt la, Benaja, fis a Jehojada a, Keretyen yo, Peletyen yo te desann. Yo te fè Salomon monte sou milèt a David la pou te mennen li kote Guihon.
Thereupon Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and conducted him to Gichon.
And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew with the cornet; and all the people said, Long live king Solomon.
40 Tout pèp la te monte apre li. Pèp la t ap jwe flit, yo t ap rejwi avèk gran jwa, jiskaske tè a te vin souke avèk bwi ke yo t ap fè yo.
And all the people went up after him, and the people blew on flutes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth was rent at their noise.
And Adoniyah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had just finished eating: and when Joab heard the sound of the cornet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city in an uproar?
And while he was yet speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Ebyathar the priest came in: and Adoniyah said [unto him], Come in; for thou art a worthy man, and must bring good tidings.
43 Men Jonathan te reponn a Adonaja: “Non! Mèt nou, Wa David, te fè Salomon wa.
And Jonathan answered and said to Adoniyah, Alas, no; our lord king David hath made Solomon king;
44 Wa a te anplis, voye avèk li Tsadok, prèt la, Nathan, pwofèt la, Benaja, fis a Jehojada a, Keretyen yo, Peletyen yo, epi yo te fè li monte sou milèt a wa a.
And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule;
And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him as king on the Gichon; and they are come up from there rejoicing, and the city hath been set in commotion. This is the noise that ye have heard.
46 Anplis menm, Salomon te vin pran chèz li sou twòn wayòm nan.
And Solomon hath also sat on the kingly throne.
47 Toujou, sèvitè a wa yo te vin beni mèt nou an, Wa David. Yo te di: ‘Ke Bondye ou a kapab fè non a Salomon pi bon ke non ou, e twòn pa li a pi gran ke twòn pa w la!’ Epi wa a te bese sou kabann nan.
And also the king's servants are come to bless our lord king David, saying, May God make the name of Solomon more famous than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne: and the king hath bowed himself upon the bed.
48 Wa a osi te di konsa: ‘Beni se SENYÈ a, Bondye Israël la, ki te pèmèt yon moun vin chita sou twòn mwen an jodi a pandan pwòp zye m toujou wè.’”
And also thus hath the king said, Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who hath given [me] this day one who sitteth on my throne, while my eyes see it.
49 Alò, tout envite a Adonija yo te ranpli avèk gwo laperèz. Yo te leve e yo chak te ale fè wout yo.
And all the guests that were with Adoniyah were terrified, and rose up, and went, every man, on his own way.
50 Konsa, Adonija te pè Salomon. Li te leve ale pou sezi kòn lotèl yo, e li te di: “Kite Salomon sèmante a mwen menm jodi a ke li p ap mete sèvitè li a lanmò avèk nepe.”
And Adoniyah was afraid because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
51 Alò, yo te pale a Salomon. Yo te di: “Gade byen, Adonija pè Wa Salomon; paske tande byen, li te ale sezi kòn lotèl yo, e li t ap di: ‘Kite Wa Salomon sèmante a mwen menm jodi a ke li p ap mete sèvitè li a lanmò avèk nepe.’”
And it was told unto Solomon, saying, Behold, Adoniyah feareth king Solomon; and, behold, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me today that he will not slay his servant with the sword.
52 Salomon te di: “Si li se yon moun onèt, nanpwen menm youn nan cheve li k ap tonbe atè, men si se mechanste ki twouve nan li, li va mouri.”
And Solomon said, If he will become a worthy man, there shall not a hair of his fall to the earth; but if any wrong shall be found on him, then shall he die.
53 Konsa, Wa Salomon te voye mennen li desann soti nan lotèl la. Epi li te vin lonje kò l atè nèt devan Wa Salomon. Salomon te di li: “Ale lakay ou.”
So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar; and he came and bowed himself to king Solomon; and Solomon said unto him, Go to thy house.
