< Sòm 49 >

1 Pou chèf sanba yo. Se yon sòm pitit Kore yo. Nou tout, koute sa byen. Louvri zòrèy nou, nou menm k'ap viv toupatou sou latè,
You people of all ethnic groups, listen! You people all over the world,
2 gran kou piti, rich kou pòv.
important people and unimportant people, rich people and poor people, everyone, [listen to what I am saying],
3 Mwen pral ban nou bon konsèy. Sa ki nan kè m' se bagay ki gen sans.
[because] what I am thinking is very sensible, and what I say will enable you to become wise!
4 M'ap louvri zòrèy mwen pou m' tande parabòl la. Mwen pral esplike l' ban nou antan m'ap jwe mizik.
I think about [MTY] (proverbs/wise sayings), and while I play my harp, I explain what they mean.
5 Poukisa pou m' ta pè, lè jou malè a rive, lè moun ki pa vle wè m' yo sènen m' toupatou ak move lide nan tèt yo?
I am not [RHQ] afraid when I am in trouble/danger, when I am surrounded by my enemies,
6 Moun ki mete konfyans yo nan byen latè, moun k'ap fè grandizè pou richès yo genyen,
by evil men who trust that [things will always go well for them because] they are wealthy, and who boast about being very rich.
7 pa gen yonn ladan yo ki ka bay senk kòb pou delivre frè yo, ni ki ka peye Bondye pou l' delivre yo.
[They may be rich], but no one can pay money with the result that he would live forever! No one can pay God enough so that God will allow him [to continue] to live,
8 Yo ta mèt pare pou yo bay anpil lajan pou sove lavi pa yo, sa p'ap janm rive fèt.
because that cost is too great, and he will never be able to pay enough
9 Atò, se pou yo ta viv tout tan san yo pa janm al anba tè?
with the result that he will live forever and never [die and] be buried!
10 Men, nou wè moun ki gen bon konprann yo mouri, yo disparèt menm jan ak moun sòt ansanm ak moun egare yo. Yo kite tout richès yo pou lòt moun.
We see that foolish and stupid people die, but we see that wise people also die; they all leave their wealth, and others inherit it.
11 Se nan simityè yo pral bout, se nan tonm yo pral rete, menm si yo gen gwo bitasyon ki pote non yo.
Those wise people once had [houses on] land that they owned, [but now] their graves are their homes forever, the place where they will stay for all time!
12 Yon moun te mèt grannèg kou l' grannèg li gen pou l' mouri. Li tankou zannimo y'ap mennen labatwa.
Even if people are great, that cannot prevent them from dying; all people die, the same as animals do.
13 Se konsa y'ap fini, moun ki mete konfyans yo nan pwòp tèt yo. Se sa ki gen pou rive moun k'ap koute pawòl yo tou.
That is what happens to those who foolishly trust [in what they have accomplished], to those who are delighted in [all] that they possess.
(Sheol h7585)
They are certain to die just like sheep, when a shepherd leads them away to be slaughtered. [PRS, MET] In the morning righteous people will rule over them, and then [those wealthy people will die and] their bodies will quickly decay in their graves; they will be where dead people are, far from their homes. (Sheol h7585)
15 Men, Bondye ap delivre mwen, l'ap wete m' anba pouvwa lanmò. (Sheol h7585)
But it is certain that God will rescue me so that I am not kept in the place of the dead. (Sheol h7585)
16 Ou pa bezwen pè lè ou wè yon moun ap vin pi rich, lè ou wè l'ap mete richès pil sou pil lakay li.
[So], do not be dismayed when someone becomes rich and the houses where they live become more and more luxurious,
17 Lè l' mouri, li p'ap pote anyen ale avèk li, l'ap kite tout richès li yo dèyè.
because when he dies, he will take nothing with him; his wealth will not go with him.
18 Li te mèt kontan jan l' t'ap viv la, yo te mèt ap fè lwanj li pou jan afè l' ap mache byen,
While [a rich person] is alive, he congratulates himself, and people praise him for being successful,
19 yon lè, li gen pou l' mouri tankou zansèt li yo ki p'ap janm wè limyè ankò.
but he will [die], joining his ancestors, who will never see daylight again.
20 Yon moun te mèt grannèg kou l' grannèg, si li pa gen konprann, li tankou zannimo y'ap mennen labatwa.
Even if someone is great, that cannot prevent him from dying; he will die, the same as animals do.
