[My] son, keep my words, and hide with you my commandments. [My] son, honour the Lord, and you shall be strong; and fear none but him:
2 Si ou fè sa m'ap di ou pou fè a, w'a viv. Konsidere sa m' moutre ou la tankou de grenn je nan tèt ou.
keep my commandments, and you shall live; and [keep] my words as the pupils of [your] eyes.
And bind them on your fingers, and write [them] on the table of your heart.
4 Konsidere konesans tankou sè ou. Konsidere bon konprann tankou pi bon zanmi ou.
Say that wisdom is your sister, and gain prudence as an acquaintance for yourself;
5 Y'ap fè ou rete lwen madanm lòt moun. Yo p'ap kite ou pran nan pawòl dous madan marye ki nan dezòd.
that she may keep you from the strange and wicked woman, if she should assail you with flattering words.
6 Yon jou, antan mwen nan fennèt lakay mwen, mwen t'ap gade nan fant jalouzi a.
For she looks from a window out of her house into the streets, at one whom she may see of the senseless ones, a young man void of understanding,
7 Mwen wè anpil jenn gason san esperyans nan lavi.
passing by the corner in the passages near her house,
8 Li t'ap mache nan lari a, li rive bò kay yon fanm. Konsa, konsa, li pran chemen ki mennen kay fanm lan.
and speaking, in the dark of the evening,
9 Le sa a solèy te kouche, te fin fè nwa.
when there happens [to be] the stillness of night and of darkness:
10 Madanm lan menm vin kontre li. Li te abiye tankou yon jennès, ak tout plan l' dèyè tèt li.
and the woman meets him having the appearance of a harlot, that causes the hearts of young men to flutter.
And she is fickle, and debauched, and her feet abide not at home.
12 Li toupatou nan lari, sou laplas, nan tout kalfou. L'ap veye, je l' toupatou.
For at one time she wanders without, and at [another] time she lies in wait in the streets, at every corner.
13 Li pase bra l' nan kou ti jennonm lan. Li bo li, li klere je l' nan je l', li di l':
Then she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him,
14 Mwen te gen pou m' ofri yon bèt pou yo touye pou di Bondye mèsi. Se jòdi a mwen kit ak angajman mwen an.
I have a peace-offering; today I pay my vows:
15 Se poutèt sa, mwen vin kontre ou. Mwen t'ap chache ou, mwen jwenn ou.
therefore I came forth to meet you, desiring your face; [and] I have found you.
16 Mwen ranje kabann mwen ak bon jan dra. Mwen mete bèl dra koulè ki soti peyi Lejip sou kabann mwen.
I have spread my bed with sheets, and I have covered it with double tapestry from Egypt.
17 Mwen fè kabann mwen santi bon. Mwen vide odè flè jasmen, womaren ak kannèl sou li.
I have sprinkled my couch with saffron, and my house with cinnamon.
18 Vini non! Ann al damou jouk li jou. Annou pran plezi nou. Ann fè doudous jouk nou sou.
Come, and let us enjoy love until the morning; come, and let us embrace in love.
19 Mari m' pa la, li pati, li al fè yon vwayaj byen lwen.
For my husband is not at home, but is gone on a long journey,
20 Li pati ak anpil lajan nan pòch li. Li p'ap tounen anvan kenz jou.
having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house.
21 Se konsa, fanm lan fin pran tèt ti jennonm lan. Ak bèl pawòl dous li yo, li fè l' asepte.
So with much converse she prevailed on him to go astray, and with the snares of her lips forced him from [the right path].
22 Jennonm lan pran swiv li, tankou bèf y'ap mennen labatwa, tankou kabrit yo pran nan pèlen
And he followed her, being gently led on, and [that] as an ox is led to the slaughter, and as a dog to bonds, or as a hart shot in the liver with an arrow:
23 k'ap tann yo vin koupe tèt li, tankou zwazo k'ap mache sou pèlen san li pa konnen lavi l' an danje.
and he hastens as a bird into a snare, not knowing that he is running for [his] life.
24 Koulye a, pitit mwen yo, koute byen. Louvri zòrèy nou, tande sa m'ap di nou.
Now then, [my] son, listen to me, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Pa kite kè nou bat pou fanm konsa. Pa kite li fè nou pèdi chemen nou.
Let not your heart turn aside to her ways:
26 Li lakòz anpil gason tonbe mouri. Li lakòz anpil vanyan gason pèdi lavi yo.
for she has wounded and cast down many, and those whom she has slain are innumerable.
27 Depi ou mete pye lakay li, ou sou chemen lanmò. W'ap desann yon pant k'ap mennen ou tou dwat nan simityè. (Sheol h7585)
Her house is the way of hell, leading down to the chambers of death. (Sheol h7585)
