Boast not thyself of to-morrow, for thou knowest not what a day will bring forth.
2 Kite lòt moun pale byen pou ou. Pa fè sa ou menm. Kite etranje fè lwanj pou ou. Pa janm fè lwanj tèt pa ou.
Let another praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3 Wòch lou, sab lou. Men, yo pa ka pi lou pase yon moun san konprann lè l' fache.
A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's vexation is heavier than them both.
4 Lè yon moun ankòlè, li kraze brize. Men, ki moun ki ka kenbe tèt ak yon moun k'ap fè jalouzi?
Fury is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before jealousy?
Open rebuke is better than hidden love.
6 Lè yon zanmi ap rale zòrèy ou, se byen ou li vle wè. Men, lè yon lènmi ap pase men l' nan kou ou, se twonpe l'ap twonpe ou.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are profuse.
7 Lè vant moun plen, yo refize ata siwo myèl. Lè moun grangou vre, menm bagay anmè gou nan bouch.
The full soul trampleth on a honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
9 Losyon ak lwil santi bon bay kè kontan. Konsèy yon bon zanmi remoute kouraj.
Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; and the sweetness of one's friend is [the fruit] of hearty counsel.
10 Pa janm bliye zanmi ou, ni zanmi papa ou. Lè zafè ou pa bon, pa al lakay frè ou. Yon bon vwazen pi bon pase yon frè ki lwen.
Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; and go not into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
11 Pitit mwen, aprann gen bon konprann. Fè kè m' kontan. Konsa, m'a ka reponn moun k'ap kritike m' yo.
Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad, that I may have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me.
A prudent [man] seeth the evil, [and] hideth himself; the simple pass on, [and] are punished.
13 Si yon moun sòt jouk pou li asepte bay pawòl li pou dèt yon etranje, se pou yo sezi ata rad ki sou li jouk lòt la peye.
Take his garment that is become surety [for] another, and hold him in pledge for a strange woman.
He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be reckoned a curse to him.
15 Yon fanm ki toujou ap chache kont, se tankou yon goutyè k'ap degoute lè lapli ap tonbe tout lajounen.
A continual dropping on a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike:
16 Si ou rive fè l' pe bouch li, w'a kenbe van ak men ou, w'a kenbe lwil ak dwèt ou tou!
whosoever will restrain her restraineth the wind, and his right hand encountereth oil.
17 Menm jan fè file fè, konsa tou pou moun, yonn aprann nan men lòt.
Iron is sharpened by iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Whoso keepeth the fig-tree shall eat the fruit thereof; and he that guardeth his master shall be honoured.
19 Lè ou gade nan glas, se pwòp figi ou ou wè ladan l'. Konsa tou, lè ou gade nan kè yon moun, ou wè ki moun li ye.
As [in] water face [answereth] to face, so the heart of man to man.
20 Menm jan toujou gen plas pou mò kote mò yo ye a, konsa tou, toujou gen plas pou lanvi nan kè moun. (Sheol h7585)
Sheol and destruction are insatiable; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
21 Yo pase lò ak ajan nan dife pou wè si yo bon. Konsa tou, dapre jan yo nonmen non yon moun, yo ka di ki moun li ye.
The fining-pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; so let a man be to the mouth that praiseth him.
22 Ou te mèt woule yon moun sòt anba baton tankou yo bat pwa, se pa sa k'ap fè l' kite sòt.
If thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his folly depart from him.
Pran swen yo.
Be well acquainted with the appearance of thy flocks; look well to thy herds:
24 Richès pa la pou tout tan. Ou ka pa rive pase tout byen ou bay pitit pitit ou.
for wealth is not for ever; and doth the crown [endure] from generation to generation?
25 Lè ou koupe zèb, li pouse ankò. Konsa, toujou gen zèb sou mòn yo.
The hay is removed, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered in.
26 Mouton ou yo ap ba ou lenn pou fè rad met sou ou. Bouk kabrit yo ap rapòte ou lajan pou achte tè pou fè jaden.
The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of a field;
27 W'a jwenn kont lèt kabrit pou ou bwè ak fanmi ou ansanm ak moun k'ap sèvi lakay ou.
and there is goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and sustenance for thy maidens.
