< Jòb 38 >

1 Lè sa a, nan yon gwo van tanpèt, Seyè a pale ak Jòb. Li di l' konsa:
Then did the Lord address Job out of the storm-wind, and said,
2 -Kisa ou ye menm pou w'ap poze keksyon sou plan travay mwen ak yon bann diskou ki pa vle di anyen?
Who is this that casteth darkness [on my] counsel by words without knowledge?
3 Mete gason sou ou! M' pral poze ou keksyon. Pare kò ou pou ou reponn mwen.
Do but gird up like a mighty man thy loins: and I will ask thee, and do thou inform me.
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? tell it, if thou hast any understanding [of it].
Who fixed her measurements, if thou knowest it? or who stretched the measuring-line over her?
6 Sou kisa fondasyon latè chita? Ki moun ki te poze wòch ki kenbe l' la?
Upon what are her foundation-pillars placed at rest? or who laid her corner-stone:
7 Jou maten sa a, tout zetwal yo t'ap chante, tout sèvitè Bondye yo t'ap bat bravo.
When altogether sang the morning stars in gladness, and shouted for joy all the sons of God?
8 Ki moun ki fèmen pòtay pou bare lanmè a, lè li pete soti nan vant latè a?
And who closed up with doors the sea, when, issuing forth, it came out of the deep bosom of the earth?
9 Lè mwen kouvri lanmè a ak nwaj, lè mwen vlope l' nan gwo nwaj nwa yo,
When I made the clouds its garment, and thick fog its swaddling-cloth,
10 mwen bay lanmè a bòn li. Mwen mete pòt avèk kle pou kenbe l' nan plas li.
And when I decreed for it my law, and set [for it] bars and doors,
11 Mwen di l': Men limit ou. Pa depase l'. Se la m'ap kraze fòs lanm ou yo.
And said, Thus far mayest thou come, but no farther; and here shall be stayed [thy strength] in the pride of thy waves?
12 Jòb, èske yon sèl fwa ou janm bay lòd pou maten rive? Ou janm bay lè pou bajou kase?
Didst thou ever, in all thy days, command the morning; didst thou ever assign the morning-dawn its place:
13 Eske ou janm bay devanjou l' lòd pou l' klere sou tout latè, l' pou l' fè mechan yo soti nan twou yo?
That it might lay hold of the ends of the earth, so that the wicked might be shaken out therefrom?
She is changed as the sealing-clay: and [all things] stand as though newly clad.
15 Limyè solèy la antrave mechan yo nan travay yo. Yo blije kite mechanste yo te pare pou fè a.
And from the wicked is their light withdrawn, and the high-raised arm is broken.
Didst thou ever penetrate as far as the springs of the sea? or wander through the bottom of the deep?
17 Eske yo te janm moutre ou pòtay peyi lanmò a? Eske ou te janm wè pòt ki louvri sou gwo twou san fon an?
Were the gates of death ever laid open unto thee? or canst thou see the doors of the shadow of death?
18 Eske ou gen lide ki lajè latè a genyen? Reponn mwen non, si ou konnen!
Hast thou a clear understanding of the breadth of the earth? Tell it, if thou knowest it all.
19 Eske ou konnen ki bò limyè soti, ki bò fènwa rete,
Where is the way [to the spot where] the light dwelleth? and the darkness—where is its place,
20 pou ou ka moutre yo jouk ki bò pou yo ale, osinon pou ou voye yo tounen lakay yo?
That thou mightest take each to its boundary, and that thou mightest mark the pathways to its house?
21 Si ou konn sa, enben, ou te fèt deja lè mwen t'ap kreye yo a. Ou pa manke gen laj sou tèt ou!
Thou [surely] knowest it; because thou wast then born, and the number of thy days is great!
22 Eske ou janm rive kote yo fè depo lanèj lan? Ou janm wè depo lagrèl la?
Didst thou ever enter into the treasuries of the snow? or canst thou see the treasuries of the hail,
23 Ou konnen depo kote m' sere yo pou lè gen move tan, pou lè batay ak lagè ap fèt?
Which I have reserved for the time of distress, for the day of fight and battle?
Where is the way [to the spot where] the light divideth itself, [where] the east wind is scattered over the earth?
25 Ou konnen ki moun ki fè wout bay lapli tonbe, ki moun ki fè chemen pou loraj la,
Who hath divided off watercourses for the overflowing rain, and a way for the lightning [that is followed by] thunders,
26 pou lapli tonbe sou dezè a kote moun pa rete,
To bring rain on a land, void of men; on a wilderness wherein no son of earth [is found];
27 pou wouze tè sèk k'ap fann nan solèy, pou fè zèb pouse nan savann?
To satisfy waste and desolate lands; and to promote the growth of the tender grass?
28 Eske lapli a gen papa? Ki moun ki fè lawouze?
Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of the dew?
29 Ki bò moso glas yo soti? Lagrèl ki soti nan syèl la, ki moun ki manman l'?
Out of whose womb cometh forth the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven—who giveth birth to it?
30 Se yo menm ki fè dlo vin di kou wòch, ki fè tout dlo anwo lanmè a di kou wòch?
[When] like a stone the waters are congealed, and the face of the deep is bound in fetters?
31 Ou ka mare zetwal Lapousiyè yo ansanm? Ou ka lage kòd ki kenbe zetwal Oryon yo ansanm?
Canst thou bind together the chains of the Pleiades, or loosen the bands of Orion?
Canst thou bring forth the constellations of the zodiac, each in its season? or canst thou guide the Bear with its young?
Knowest thou the laws of heaven? or dost thou appoint its rule on the earth?
34 Eske ou ka bay nwaj yo lòd pou yo voye gwo lapli sou ou?
Canst thou lift up to the clouds thy voice, that the abundance of waters may cover thee?
35 Si ou bay zèklè yo lòd pou yo pati, èske y'ap reponn ou: Wi, men nou?
Canst thou send out lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here are we?
Who hath put wisdom in the dark clouds? or who hath given understanding to the bright meteors?
37 Ki moun ki ka konte kantite nwaj ki genyen, san manke yonn? Ki moun ki ka panche yo pou vide dlo lapli,
Who ordaineth the skies with wisdom? or who emptieth out the bottles of heaven.
38 pou pousyè tè a tounen labou, pou boul tè yo kole ansanm?
When the dust is poured out as molten metal, and the clods are made to cleave fast together?
Dost thou hunt for the lioness her prey? and suppliest thou the food for the young lions,
40 kote yo kache nan twou yo a, osinon kote yo kouche ap tann nan nich yo a?
When they are couched in their lairs, rest in the thicket, lying in wait?
41 Ki moun ki pare manje pou kònèy yo, lè grangou fè yo soti nan nich yo, lè pitit yo ap rele nan pye m' pou m' ba yo manje?
Who provideth for the raven his provision? when his young ones cry unto God, and wander about for lack of food?
