નીતિવચનો 3

1 ૧ મારા દીકરા, મારી આજ્ઞાઓ ભૂલી ન જા અને તારા હૃદયમાં મારા શિક્ષણને સંઘરી રાખજે;

My son! my law forget not, And my commands let thy heart keep,

2 ૨ કેમ કે તે તને દીર્ઘાયુષ્ય, આવરદાના વર્ષો અને શાંતિની વૃદ્ધિ આપશે.

For length of days and years, Life and peace they do add to thee.

3 ૩ કૃપા તથા સત્યતા તારો ત્યાગ ન કરો, તેઓને તું તારા ગળે બાંધી રાખજે, તેઓને તારા હૃદયપટ પર લખી રાખજે.

Let not kindness and truth forsake thee, Bind them on thy neck, Write them on the tablet of thy heart,

4 ૪ તેથી તું ઈશ્વર તથા માણસની દૃષ્ટિમાં કૃપા તથા સુકીર્તિ પામશે.

And find grace and good understanding In the eyes of God and man.

5 ૫ તારા પૂર્ણ હૃદયથી યહોવાહ પર ભરોસો રાખ અને તારી પોતાની સમજણ પર આધાર રાખીશ નહિ.

Trust unto Jehovah with all thy heart, And unto thine own understanding lean not.

6 ૬ તારા સર્વ માર્ગોમાં પ્રભુનો અધિકાર સ્વીકાર અને તે તારા માર્ગો સીધા કરશે.

In all thy ways know thou Him, And He doth make straight thy paths.

7 ૭ તું તારી પોતાની નજરમાં જ્ઞાની ન થા; યહોવાહનો ભય રાખીને દુષ્ટતાથી દૂર થા.

Be not wise in thine own eyes, Fear Jehovah, and turn aside from evil.

8 ૮ તેથી તારું શરીર તંદુરસ્ત રહેશે અને તારું શરીર તાજગીમાં રહેશે.

Healing it is to thy navel, And moistening to thy bones.

9 ૯ તારા ધનથી તથા તારી પેદાશના પ્રથમ ફળથી યહોવાહનું સન્માન કર.

Honour Jehovah from thy substance, And from the beginning of all thine increase;

10 ૧૦ એમ કરવાથી તારા અન્નના ભંડાર ભરપૂર થશે અને તારા દ્રાક્ષકુંડો નવા દ્રાક્ષારસથી ઊભરાઈ જશે.

And filled are thy barns [with] plenty, And [with] new wine thy presses break forth.

11 ૧૧ મારા દીકરા, યહોવાહની શિક્ષાને તુચ્છ ન ગણ અને તેમના ઠપકાથી કંટાળી ન જા.

Chastisement of Jehovah, my son, despise not, And be not vexed with His reproof,

12 ૧૨ કેમ કે જેમ પિતા પોતાના પુત્રને ઠપકો આપે છે તેમ યહોવાહ જેના પર પ્રેમ રાખે છે તેને ઠપકો આપે છે.

For whom Jehovah loveth He reproveth, Even as a father the son He is pleased with.

13 ૧૩ જે માણસને ડહાપણ મળે છે, અને જે માણસ બુદ્ધિ સંપાદન કરે છે, તે આશીર્વાદિત છે.

O the happiness of a man [who] hath found wisdom, And of a man [who] bringeth forth understanding.

14 ૧૪ કેમ કે તેનો વેપાર ચાંદીના વેપાર કરતાં અને તેનો વળતર ચોખ્ખા સોનાના વળતર કરતાં શ્રેષ્ઠ છે.

For better [is] her merchandise Than the merchandise of silver, And than gold — her increase.

15 ૧૫ ડહાપણ માણેક કરતાં વધારે મૂલ્યવાન છે અને તારી મનગમતી કોઈપણ વસ્તુ તેની બરાબરી કરી શકે તેમ નથી.

Precious she [is] above rubies, And all thy pleasures are not comparable to her.

16 ૧૬ તેના જમણા હાથમાં દીર્ઘાયુષ્ય છે, તેના ડાબા હાથમાં સમૃદ્ધિ અને સન્માન છે.

Length of days [is] in her right hand, In her left [are] wealth and honour.

17 ૧૭ તેના માર્ગો સુખદાયક અને તેના બધા રસ્તા શાંતિપૂર્ણ છે.

Her ways [are] ways of pleasantness, And all her paths [are] peace.

18 ૧૮ જેઓ તે ગ્રહણ કરે છે તેઓનું તે જીવનવૃક્ષ છે, જેઓ તેને દૃઢતાથી પકડી રાખે છે તેઓ સુખી થાય છે.

A tree of life she [is] to those laying hold on her, And whoso is retaining her [is] happy.

19 ૧૯ યહોવાહે પૃથ્વીને ડહાપણથી અને આકાશોને સમજશક્તિથી ભરીને સ્થાપન કર્યા છે.

Jehovah by wisdom did found the earth, He prepared the heavens by understanding.

20 ૨૦ તેમના ડહાપણને પ્રતાપે ઊંડાણમાંથી પાણીનાં ઝરણાં ફૂટી નીકળ્યાં અને વાદળોમાંથી ઝાકળ ટપકે છે.

By His knowledge depths have been rent, And clouds do drop dew.

21 ૨૧ મારા દીકરા, સુજ્ઞાન તથા વિવેકબુદ્ધિ પકડી રાખ, તેઓને તારી નજર આગળથી દૂર થવા ન દે.

My son! let them not turn from thine eyes, Keep thou wisdom and thoughtfulness,

22 ૨૨ તો તેઓ તારા આત્માનું જીવન અને તારા ગળાની શોભા થશે.

And they are life to thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

23 ૨૩ પછી તું તારા માર્ગમાં સુરક્ષિત જઈ શકીશ અને તારો પગ ઠોકર ખાઈને લથડશે નહિ.

Then thou goest thy way confidently, And thy foot doth not stumble.

24 ૨૪ જ્યારે તું ઊંઘી જશે, ત્યારે તને કોઈ ડર લાગશે નહિ; જ્યારે તું સૂઈ જશે, ત્યારે તને મીઠી ઊંઘ આવશે.

If thou liest down, thou art not afraid, Yea, thou hast lain down, And sweet hath been thy sleep.

25 ૨૫ જ્યારે આકસ્મિક ભય આવી પડે અથવા દુષ્ટ માણસોની પાયમાલી થાય ત્યારે તું ગભરાઈશ નહિ.

Be not afraid of sudden fear, And of the desolation of the wicked when it cometh.

26 ૨૬ કેમ કે યહોવાહ તારી સાથે રહેશે અને તારા પગને સપડાઈ જતાં બચાવશે.

For Jehovah is at thy side, And He hath kept thy foot from capture.

27 ૨૭ હિત કરવાની શક્તિ તારા હાથમાં હોય તો જેને માટે તે ઘટિત હોય તેનું હિત કરવામાં પાછો ન પડ.

Withhold not good from its owners, When thy hand [is] toward God to do [it].

28 ૨૮ જ્યારે તારી પાસે પૈસા હોય, ત્યારે તારા પડોશીને એમ ન કહે, “જા અને ફરીથી આવજે, આવતીકાલે હું આપીશ.”

Say not thou to thy friend, 'Go, and return, and to-morrow I give,' And substance with thee.

29 ૨૯ જે વ્યક્તિ તારી પડોશમાં નિર્ભય રહે છે, તેવા તારા પડોશીનું ભૂંડું કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન ન કર.

Devise not against thy neighbour evil, And he sitting confidently with thee.

30 ૩૦ કોઈ માણસે તારું કંઈ નુકસાન કર્યું ન હોય, તો તેની સાથે કારણ વગર તકરાર ન કર.

Strive not with a man without cause, If he have not done thee evil.

31 ૩૧ દુષ્ટ માણસની અદેખાઈ ન કર, અથવા તેનો એક પણ માર્ગ પસંદ ન કર.

Be not envious of a man of violence, Nor fix thou on any of his ways.

32 ૩૨ કેમ કે આડા માણસોને યહોવાહ ધિક્કારે છે; પણ પ્રામાણિક માણસો તેનો મર્મ સમજે છે.

For an abomination to Jehovah [is] the perverted, And with the upright [is] His secret counsel.

33 ૩૩ યહોવાહ દુષ્ટ માણસોના ઘર પર શાપ ઉતારે છે; પણ તે ન્યાયી માણસોના ઘરને આશીર્વાદ આપે છે.

The curse of Jehovah [is] in the house of the wicked. And the habitation of the righteous He blesseth.

34 ૩૪ તે તિરસ્કાર કરનારાનો તિરસ્કાર કરે છે, પણ તે નમ્ર જનોને કૃપા આપે છે.

If the scorners He doth scorn, Yet to the humble He doth give grace.

35 ૩૫ જ્ઞાનીઓ ગૌરવનો વારસો પામશે, પણ મૂર્ખોને બદનામી જ મળશે.

Honour do the wise inherit, And fools are bearing away shame!
