નીતિવચનો 29

1 ૧ જે માણસ વારંવાર ઠપકો પામવા છતાં પોતાની ગરદન અક્કડ રાખે છે, તે અકસ્માતમાં નાશ પામશે, તેનો કોઈ ઉપાય રહેશે નહિ.

He, that being often reproved hardeneth [his] neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

2 ૨ જ્યારે ન્યાયી લોકો સત્તા પર આવે છે ત્યારે લોકો આનંદોત્સવ કરે છે, પણ જ્યારે દુષ્ટોના હાથમાં સત્તા આવે છે ત્યારે તેઓ નિસાસા નાખે છે.

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

3 ૩ જે કોઈ ડહાપણને પ્રેમ કરે તે પોતાના પિતાને આનંદ આપે છે, પણ જે ગણિકાઓની સાથે સંબંધ રાખે છે તે પોતાની સંપત્તિ પણ ગુમાવે છે.

He that loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth [his] substance.

4 ૪ નીતિમાન ન્યાયી રાજા દેશને સ્થિરતા આપે છે, પણ જે લાંચ મેળવવાનું ચાહે છે તે તેનો નાશ કરે છે.

The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.

5 ૫ જે માણસ પોતાના પડોશીનાં ખોટાં વખાણ કરે છે તે તેને ફસાવવા જાળ પાથરે છે.

A man that flattereth his neighbor spreadeth a net for his feet.

6 ૬ દુષ્ટ માણસ પોતાના પાપના ફાંદામાં ફસાય છે, પણ નેકીવાન માણસ ગીતો ગાય છે અને આનંદ કરે છે.

In the transgression of an evil man [there is] a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

7 ૭ નેકીવાન માણસ ગરીબોના હિતની ચિંતા રાખે છે; દુષ્ટ માણસ તે જાણવાની દરકાર પણ કરતો નથી.

The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: [but] the wicked regardeth not to know [it].

8 ૮ તિરસ્કાર કરનાર માણસો શહેર સળગાવે છે, પણ ડાહ્યા માણસો રોષને સમાવે છે.

Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise [men] turn away wrath.

9 ૯ જ્યારે ડાહ્યો માણસ મૂર્ખ સાથે વાદવિવાદમાં ઊતરે છે, ત્યારે કાં તો તે ગુસ્સે થાય છે અગર તે હસે છે, પણ તેને કંઈ નિરાંત વળતી નથી.

[If] a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rageth or laugheth, [there is] no rest.

10 ૧૦ લોહીના તરસ્યા માણસો પ્રામાણિક માણસો પર વૈર રાખે છે તેઓ પ્રામાણિકનો જીવ લેવા મથે છે.

The blood-thirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.

11 ૧૧ મૂર્ખ માણસ પોતાનો ક્રોધ બહાર ઠાલવે છે, પણ ડાહ્યો માણસ પોતાની જાતને કાબૂમાં રાખે છે અને ક્રોધ સમાવી દે છે.

A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise [man] keepeth it in till afterwards.

12 ૧૨ જો કોઈ શાસનકર્તા જૂઠી વાતો સાંભળવા માટે ધ્યાન આપે, તો તેના સર્વ સેવકો ખરાબ થઈ જાય છે.

If a ruler hearkeneth to lies, all his servants [are] wicked.

13 ૧૩ ગરીબ માણસ તથા જુલમગાર માણસ ભેગા થાય છે; અને તે બન્નેની આંખોને યહોવાહ પ્રકાશ આપે છે.

The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD enlighteneth both their eyes.

14 ૧૪ જે રાજા વિશ્વાસુપણાથી ગરીબોનો ન્યાય કરે છે, તેનું રાજ્યાસન સદાને માટે સ્થિર રહેશે.

The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.

15 ૧૫ સોટી તથા ઠપકો ડહાપણ આપે છે; પણ સ્વતંત્ર મૂકેલું બાળક પોતાની માતાને બદનામ કરે છે.

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.

16 ૧૬ જ્યારે દુષ્ટોની વૃદ્ધિ થાય છે, ત્યારે પાપ વધે છે; પણ નેકીવાનો તેઓની પડતી થતી જોશે.

When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.

17 ૧૭ તું તારા દીકરાને શિક્ષા કરીશ તો તે તારા માટે આશીર્વાદરૂપ હશે અને તે તારા આત્માને આનંદ આપશે.

Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yes, he shall give delight to thy soul.

18 ૧૮ જ્યાં સંદર્શન નથી, ત્યાં લોકો મર્યાદા છોડી દે છે, પણ નિયમના પાળનાર આશીર્વાદિત છે.

Where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he.

19 ૧૯ માત્ર શબ્દોથી ગુલામોને સુધારી શકાશે નહિ, કારણ કે તે સમજશે તો પણ ગણકારશે નહિ.

A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understandeth, he will not answer.

20 ૨૦ શું તેં ઉતાવળે બોલનાર માણસને જોયો છે? તેના કરતાં કોઈ મૂર્ખ તરફથી વધારે આશા રાખી શકાય.

Seest thou a man [that is] hasty in his words? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.

21 ૨૧ જે માણસ પોતાના ચાકરને નાનપણથી વહાલપૂર્વક ઉછેરે છે, આખરે તે તેનો દીકરો થઈ બેસશે.

He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him at length become [his] son.

22 ૨૨ ક્રોધી માણસ ઝઘડા સળગાવે છે અને ગુસ્સાવાળો માણસ ઘણા ગુના કરે છે.

An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

23 ૨૩ અભિમાન માણસને અપમાનિત કરે છે, પણ નમ્ર વ્યક્તિ સન્માન મેળવે છે.

A man's pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

24 ૨૪ ચોરનો ભાગીદાર તેનો પોતાનો જ દુશ્મન છે; તે સોગન ખાય છે, પણ કંઈ જાહેર કરતો નથી.

Whoever is partner with a thief, hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and discloseth [it] not.

25 ૨૫ માણસની બીક ફાંદારૂપ છે; પણ જે કોઈ યહોવાહ પર વિશ્વાસ રાખે છે તે સુરક્ષિત છે.

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but he who putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

26 ૨૬ ઘણા માણસો અધિકારીની કૃપા શોધે છે, પણ ન્યાય તો યહોવાહ પાસેથી જ મળી શકે છે.

Many seek the ruler's favor; but [every] man's judgment [cometh] from the LORD.

27 ૨૭ અન્યાયી માણસ નેકીવાનને કંટાળાજનક છે, અને નેકીવાન દુષ્ટોને કંટાળાજનક છે.

An unjust man [is] an abomination to the just: and [he that is] upright in the way [is] abomination to the wicked.
