નીતિવચનો 22

1 ૧ સારું નામ એ પુષ્કળ ધન કરતાં અને પ્રેમયુક્ત રહેમ નજર સોનારૂપા કરતાં ઇચ્છવાજોગ છે.

A good name is to be chosen aboue great riches, and louing fauour is aboue siluer and aboue golde.

2 ૨ દરિદ્રી અને દ્રવ્યવાન એક બાબતમાં સરખા છે કે યહોવાહે તે બન્નેના ઉત્પન્નકર્તા છે.

The rich and poore meete together: the Lord is the maker of them all.

3 ૩ ડાહ્યો માણસ આફતને આવતી જોઈને સંતાઈ જાય છે, પણ મૂર્ખ માણસ આગળ ચાલ્યો જાય છે અને દંડાય છે.

A prudent man seeth the plague, and hideth himselfe: but the foolish goe on still, and are punished.

4 ૪ વિનમ્રતા તથા ધન, સન્માન તથા જીવન એ યહોવાહના ભયનાં ફળ છે.

The rewarde of humilitie, and the feare of God is riches, and glory, and life.

5 ૫ આડા માણસના માર્ગમાં કાંટા અને ફાંદા છે; જે માણસને જીવન વહાલું છે તે તેનાથી દૂર રહે છે.

Thornes and snares are in the way of the frowarde: but he that regardeth his soule, will depart farre from them.

6 ૬ બાળકે જે માર્ગમાં ચાલવું જોઈએ તેમાં ચાલવાનું તેને શિક્ષણ આપ અને જ્યારે તે વૃદ્ધ થાય ત્યારે તેમાંથી તે ખસે નહિ.

Teache a childe in the trade of his way, and when he is olde, he shall not depart from it.

7 ૭ ધનવાન ગરીબ ઉપર સત્તા ચલાવે છે અને દેણદાર લેણદારનો ગુલામ છે.

The rich ruleth the poore, and the borower is seruant to the man that lendeth.

8 ૮ જે અન્યાય વાવશે તે વિપત્તિ લણશે અને તેના ક્રોધની સોટી વ્યર્થ જશે.

He that soweth iniquitie, shall reape affliction, and the rodde of his anger shall faile.

9 ૯ ઉદાર દૃષ્ટિના માણસ પર આશીર્વાદ ઊતરશે કારણ કે તે પોતાના અન્નમાંથી દરિદ્રીને આપે છે.

He that hath a good eye, he shalbe blessed: for he giueth of his bread vnto the poore.

10 ૧૦ ઘમંડી વ્યક્તિને દૂર કર એટલે ઝઘડો પણ સમી જશે અને મારામારી તથા અપમાનનો અંત આવશે.

Cast out the scorner, and strife shall go out: so contention and reproche shall cease.

11 ૧૧ જે હૃદયની શુદ્ધતા ચાહે છે તેના બોલવાના પ્રભાવને લીધે રાજા તેનો મિત્ર થશે.

Hee that loueth purenesse of heart for the grace of his lippes, the King shalbe his friend.

12 ૧૨ યહોવાહની દૃષ્ટિ જ્ઞાનીની સંભાળ રાખે છે, પણ કપટી માણસના શબ્દોને તે ઉથલાવી નાખે છે.

The eyes of the Lord preserue knowledge: but hee ouerthroweth the wordes of the transgressour.

13 ૧૩ આળસુ કહે છે, “બહાર તો સિંહ છે! હું રસ્તામાં માર્યો જઈશ.”

The slouthfull man saith, A lyon is without, I shall be slaine in the streete.

14 ૧૪ પરસ્ત્રીનું મુખ ઊંડી ખાઈ જેવું છે; જે કોઈ તેમાં પડે છે તેના ઉપર યહોવાહનો કોપ ઊતરે છે.

The mouth of strage women is as a deepe pit: he with whom the Lord is angry, shall fall therein.

15 ૧૫ મૂર્ખાઈ બાળકના હૃદયની સાથે જોડાયેલી છે, પણ શિક્ષાની સોટી તેનામાંથી તેની મૂર્ખાઈને દૂર કરશે.

Foolishnesse is bounde in the heart of a childe: but the rodde of correction shall driue it away from him.

16 ૧૬ પોતાની માલમિલકત વધારવાને માટે જે ગરીબને ત્રાસ આપે છે અથવા જે ધનવાનને બક્ષિશ આપે છે તે પોતે કંગાલાવસ્થામાં આવશે.

Hee that oppresseth the poore to increase him selfe, and giueth vnto the riche, shall surely come to pouertie.

17 ૧૭ જ્ઞાની માણસોના શબ્દો ધ્યાનથી સાંભળ અને મારા ડહાપણ પર તારું અંતઃકરણ લગાડ.

Incline thine eare, and heare the wordes of the wise, and apply thine heart vnto my knowledge.

18 ૧૮ કેમ કે જો તું તેઓને તારા અંતરમાં રાખે અને જો તેઓ બન્ને તારા હોઠો પર સ્થિર થાય તો તે સુખકારક છે.

For it shalbe pleasant, if thou keepe them in thy bellie, and if they be directed together in thy lippes.

19 ૧૯ તારો ભરોસો યહોવાહ પર રહે, માટે આજે મેં તને, હા, તને તે જણાવ્યાં છે.

That thy confidence may be in the Lord, I haue shewed thee this day: thou therefore take heede.

20 ૨૦ મેં તારા માટે સુબોધ અને ડહાપણની ત્રીસ કહેવતો એટલા માટે લખી રાખી છે કે,

Haue not I written vnto thee three times in counsels and knowledge,

21 ૨૧ સત્યનાં વચનો તું ચોક્કસ જાણે જેથી તને મોકલનાર છે તેની પાસે જઈને સત્ય વચનોથી તું તેને ઉત્તર આપે?

That I might shewe thee the assurance of the wordes of trueth to answere the wordes of trueth to them that sende to thee?

22 ૨૨ ગરીબને લૂંટીશ નહિ, કારણ કે તે ગરીબ છે, તેમ જ રસ્તાઓમાં પડી રહેલા ગરીબો પર પણ જુલમ ન કર,

Robbe not the poore, because hee is poore, neither oppresse the afflicted in iudgement.

23 ૨૩ કારણ કે યહોવાહ તેમનો પક્ષ કરીને લડશે અને જેઓ તેઓનું છીનવી લે છે તેઓના જીવ તે છીનવી લેશે.

For the Lord will defende their cause, and spoyle the soule of those that spoyle them.

24 ૨૪ ક્રોધી માણસ સાથે મિત્રતા ન કર અને તામસી માણસની સોબત ન કર.

Make no friendship with an angrie man, neither goe with the furious man,

25 ૨૫ જેથી તું તેના માર્ગો શીખે અને તારા આત્માને ફાંદામાં લાવી નાખે.

Least thou learne his wayes, and receiue destruction to thy soule.

26 ૨૬ વચન આપનારાઓમાંનો જામીન અને દેવાને માટે જામીન આપનાર એ બેમાંથી તું એકે પણ થઈશ નહિ.

Be not thou of them that touch the hand, nor among them that are suretie for debts.

27 ૨૭ જો તારી પાસે દેવું ચૂકવવા માટે કંઈ ન હોય તો તારી નીચેથી તે તારું બિછાનું શા માટે ન લઈ જાય?

If thou hast nothing to paye, why causest thou that he should take thy bed from vnder thee?

28 ૨૮ તારા પિતૃઓએ જે અસલના સીમા પથ્થર નક્કી કર્યા છે તેને ન ખસેડ.

Thou shalt not remooue the ancient bounds which thy fathers haue made.

29 ૨૯ પોતાના કામમાં ઉદ્યોગી હોય એવા માણસને શું તું જુએ છે? તે રાજાઓની હજૂરમાં ઊભો રહે છે; તે સામાન્ય લોકોની આગળ ઊભો રહેતો નથી.

Thou seest that a diligent man in his businesse standeth before Kings, and standeth not before the base sort.
