નીતિવચનો 21

1 ૧ પાણીના પ્રવાહ જેવું રાજાનું મન યહોવાહના હાથમાં છે; તે જ્યાં ચાહે છે ત્યાં તેને દોરે છે.

The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD as the watercourses: He turneth it whithersoever He will.

2 ૨ માણસનો દરેક માર્ગ તેની પોતાની નજરમાં તો સીધો દેખાય છે, પણ યહોવાહ તેના હૃદયની તુલના કરે છે.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the hearts.

3 ૩ ન્યાય તથા નેકીનાં કૃત્યો કરવાં તે યહોવાહને યજ્ઞ કરતાં પણ વધારે પસંદ છે.

To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

4 ૪ અભિમાની આંખો તથા ગર્વિષ્ઠ હૃદય તે દુષ્ટોને દીવારૂપ છે, પણ તે પાપ છે.

A haughty look, and a proud heart — the tillage of the wicked is sin.

5 ૫ ઉદ્યમીના વિચારોનું પુષ્કળ ફળ મળે છે, પણ દરેક ઉતાવળિયો ફક્ત નિર્ધન બને છે.

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but every one that is hasty hasteth only to want.

6 ૬ જૂઠી જીભથી ઘન સંપાદન કરવું તે આમતેમ ઘસડાઈ જતા ધુમાડા જેવું છે, એવું કરનાર મોત માગે છે.

The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vapour driven to and fro; they that seek them seek death.

7 ૭ દુષ્ટ લોકોનો અત્યાચાર તેઓને પોતાને જ ઘસડી જાય છે, કારણ કે, તેઓ ન્યાય કરવાની ના પાડે છે.

The violence of the wicked shall drag them away; because they refuse to do justly.

8 ૮ અપરાધીનો માર્ગ વાંકોચૂંકો છે, પણ સંતોનાં કાર્યો સીધા હોય છે.

The way of man is froward and strange; but as for the pure, his work is right.

9 ૯ કજિયાખોર સ્ત્રીની સાથે વિશાળ ઘરમાં રહેવા કરતાં અગાશીના એક ખૂણામાં રહેવું વધારે સારું છે.

It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than in a house in common with a contentious woman.

10 ૧૦ દુષ્ટ વ્યક્તિ ખોટું ઇચ્છે છે; તેની નજરમાં તેનો પડોશી પણ કૃપાપાત્ર દેખાતો નથી.

The soul of the wicked desireth evil; his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.

11 ૧૧ જ્યારે ઘમંડી વ્યક્તિને શિક્ષા થાય છે, ત્યારે ભોળો સાવચેત બને છે; અને જ્યારે ડાહ્યાને શિક્ષણ મળે છે, ત્યારે તે વિદ્વાન થાય છે.

When the scorner is punished, the thoughtless is made wise; and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

12 ૧૨ ન્યાયી લોકો દુષ્ટના ઘર ઉપર નજર રાખે છે, પણ ઈશ્વર દુષ્ટોને ઊથલાવી પાડીને પાયમાલ કરે છે.

The Righteous One considereth the house of the wicked; overthrowing the wicked to their ruin.

13 ૧૩ જે કોઈ ગરીબની બૂમ સાંભળીને પોતાના કાન બંધ કરે છે, તેઓ જ્યારે પોતે પોકારશે, ત્યારે તેઓનું સાંભળવામાં આવશે નહિ.

Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be answered.

14 ૧૪ છૂપી રીતે આપેલ ભેટથી ક્રોધ શમી જાય છે, છુપાવેલી લાંચથી ભારે રોષ શમી જાય છે.

A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a present in the bosom strong wrath.

15 ૧૫ નેકીવાનો ન્યાય કરવામાં આનંદ માને છે, પણ દુષ્કર્મીઓને તો તે વિનાશરૂપ છે.

To do justly is joy to the righteous, but ruin to the workers of iniquity.

16 ૧૬ સમજણનો માર્ગ છોડીને ચાલનાર માણસ મરણ પામેલાઓની સભામાં આવી પડશે.

The man that strayeth out of the way of understanding shall rest in the congregation of the shades.

17 ૧૭ મોજશોખ ઉડાવનાર માણસ દરિદ્રી થશે; દ્રાક્ષારસ અને તેલનો રસિયો ધનવાન થશે નહિ.

He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man; he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

18 ૧૮ નેકીવાનોનો બદલો દુષ્ટ લોકોને અને પ્રામાણિકોનો બદલો કપટીને ભરવો પડશે.

The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; and the faithless cometh in the stead of the upright.

19 ૧૯ કજિયાખોર અને ગુસ્સાવાળી સ્ત્રીની સાથે રહેવા કરતાં ઉજ્જડ પ્રદેશમાં જઈ રહેવું સારું છે.

It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.

20 ૨૦ જ્ઞાનીના ઘરમાં મૂલ્યવાન ભંડાર તથા તેલ છે, પણ મૂર્ખ તેનો દૂર ઉપયોગ કરે છે.

There is desirable treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swalloweth it up.

21 ૨૧ જે નેકી તથા દયાનું અનુકરણ કરે છે, તેને જીવન, નેકી તથા સન્માન મળે છે.

He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, prosperity, and honour.

22 ૨૨ જ્ઞાની માણસ સમર્થ નગરના કોટ પર ચઢે છે અને જે સામર્થ્ય પર તેનો ભરોસો હતો તેને તે તોડી પાડે છે.

A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and bringeth down the stronghold wherein it trusteth.

23 ૨૩ જે કોઈ પોતાના મુખની તથા જીભની સંભાળ રાખે છે તે સંકટમાં પોતાના આત્માનું રક્ષણ કરે છે.

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

24 ૨૪ જે માણસ ઘમંડી છે; તેનું નામ “તિરસ્કાર” કરનાર છે, તે અભિમાનથી મદોન્મત્તપણે વર્તે છે.

A proud and haughty man, scorner is his name, even he that dealeth in overbearing pride.

25 ૨૫ આળસુની ભૂખ જ તેને મારી નાખે છે, કારણ કે તેના હાથ કામ કરવાની ના પાડે છે.

The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.

26 ૨૬ એવા માણસો હોય છે કે જેઓ આખો દિવસ લોભ જ કર્યા કરે છે, પણ નેક માણસ તો આપે છે અને હાથ પાછો ખેંચી રાખતો નથી.

There is that coveteth greedily all the day long; but the righteous giveth and spareth not.

27 ૨૭ દુષ્ટનો યજ્ઞ કંટાળારૂપ છે, તે બદઇરાદાથી યજ્ઞ કરે, તો તે કેટલો બધો કંટાળારૂપ થાય.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more, when he bringeth it with the proceeds of wickedness?

28 ૨૮ જૂઠી સાક્ષી પૂરનાર નાશ પામશે, પરંતુ જે માણસ ધ્યાનથી સાંભળે છે તેની જીત થશે.

A false witness shall perish; but the man that obeyeth shall speak unchallenged.

29 ૨૯ દુષ્ટ માણસ પોતાની મુખમુદ્રા કઠોર કરે છે, પણ પ્રામાણિક તો પોતાના માર્ગનો વિચાર કરીને વર્તે છે.

A wicked man hardeneth his face; but as for the upright, he looketh well to his way.

30 ૩૦ કોઈ પણ ડહાપણ, બુદ્ધિ કે મસલત યહોવાહની આગળ ચાલી શકે નહિ.

There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

31 ૩૧ યુદ્ધના દિવસ માટે ઘોડો તૈયાર કરવામાં આવે છે, પણ વિજય તો યહોવાહ દ્વારા જ મળે છે.

The horse is prepared against the day of battle; but victory is of the LORD.
